Under new ownership alert
I recently visited Il Forno and wanted to share an experience that truly deserves recognition. The restaurant is now under new ownership, and you can feel the renewed energy the moment you walk in. There’s a clear passion for hospitality and a genuine commitment to elevating both the food and the guest experience.
During my visit, the team was admittedly a bit understaffed (something many small businesses are navigating these days) but you would never have known by the level of care we received. The staff remained attentive, warm, and incredibly professional, making sure every table felt welcomed and taken care of. That kind of service, especially under pressure, speaks volumes about the culture being built here.
I ordered the soup of the, a creamy veggie soup, which had me having a Ratatouille moment reminding of my moms soups as a kid. I had their Pomodora personal pie where I added sausage and goodness was it crispy and the right amount of flavor. Two thumbs up!
The food was delicious, the atmosphere inviting, and most importantly, the heart behind the operation was evident. It’s exciting to see Il Forno stepping into this new era, and I’m confident it’s only going to keep getting better.
If you’re in the Dunellen area, it’s absolutely worth a visit. Come support a local spot that’s working hard and doing things the right way. ❤️

El Forno Legna was an absolute win from start to finish. The rigatoni bolognese was incredibly well-balanced and full of flavor—the cream tomato sauce was exquisite, rich without being heavy. We also loved the margherita pizza; you could truly smell and taste the fragrance of the fresh tomatoes, which made it feel beautifully authentic.
The Tommy Boy was another standout, with its creamy pesto topping paired perfectly with the breaded chicken and just a hint of red pepper to bring it all together. Every dish felt thoughtful and executed with care.
Beyond the food, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and we genuinely enjoyed every moment. We finished every bite and left more than satisfied. Can’t wait to come back.

The atmosphere was very inviting, and they had a live musician which provided beautiful background music. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food did take a little while to come out but it was on a busy Saturday night. The flavor was great overall. Definitely recommend the calamari al forno and the Tommy boy pizza! I will definitely be returning!

We were around the area trying to get some menu business with my husband who went in and gave his business card and he came out and said we have to eat here it smells delicious, which i’m glad we did everything was delicious from the salad to the Veal Parmesan and lets not talk about the pizza delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive definitely stopping by again.

So sad to leave this review as I’ve been coming to Il Forno since they opened. I’m thinking they must have sold this business because the last few times the quality was poor but it’s close and it’s pizza. Tonight sealed the deal for us unfortunately I will not be returning. The pizza dough seems to have changed. It’s now half the thickness it was. The cheese was undercooked so bad I couldn’t eat it and the size of blue cheese they gave with the wings was laughable. I feel bad because the staff is always so nice but I will not be returning.

I visited this place in the evening and was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and service. I learned that they are now under new ownership. The food is incredible, especially the pizzas, which are incredibly delicious. The staff is incredibly welcoming and polite, and they always have a great playlist. The combination of the ambiance, food, and service makes it a place where you’d want to spend the entire day. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dining experience. Don’t miss out on their special pizzas! They also have a BYOB option, so you can bring your own wine or liquor.

Service was great! The woman who helped me placed the order correctly and when the kitchen made a mistake she went above and beyond to fix it. Seems like the kitchen has the easy job and they can barely do that right.
Pizza is gross, dough is extremely salty and the chicken seems like frozen or microwaved. Most of my order was incorrect and rushed, the pizza was very strangely baked with some nasty crud from the whole days baking encrusted on the bottom of one of my pies. Barely baked, raw in the center with paper thin mushy crust.
Highly NOT Recommended!!!

I’m very picky when it comes to Italian food, and IL FORNO did not disappoint. The pasta was very good, cooked properly, and full of flavor. The pizza was excellent — perfectly done with great dough and balance.
The beef balls were absolutely amazing, rich and well seasoned. You can tell they take their food seriously. I’d definitely come back and recommend this place to anyone looking for real Italian flavors
One comment- Food should come out hot as I like it but it wasn’t that bad. But next time please make sure it’s hot and not warm

Waited quite a bit for our food eventhough it was pretty empty but the margarita pizza was the best one i’ve ever had in my lifeeee. The penne vodka chicken parm was delicious, wings were okay, lacked flavor.
