it’s-me!
We ordered take-out from Chatni, which was very easy to do. Their online menu features images and descriptions, which helped us make our food choices.
Delivery was managed by the restaurant, thereby making things convenient for us and the food arrived within 30 minutes of the scheduled time.
The food was clean, fresh, delicious and generous.
My ONLY criticism is the vegetable Samosa filling, which was more like seasoned, mashed potatoes than diced potato with peas … but even THEY were tasty and the dough was crisp, flavorful and not greasy.
We chose a “mild” heat level and thankfully, the cook listened.
On our next order, we might be brave and try “medium” ;-).
They threw in free pappadum and a taste of their rice pudding, which was a nice treat.

A humble Indian Restuarant with Yummy food and kind hearted staff.
Pros:
– Amazing food: Naan and Tandoori Roti were evenly cooked with appropriate amount of dough.
– Bhindi is a must try.
– Kind Hearted Staff: My friend left her bag as we left, the staff was kind to call us back.

Could Be Better:
– The ambience could be better. Decor and furniture is a bit outdated.
– Serving out of the can Indian deserts are never good on the tastebuds.

Just went to the restaurant last Friday for dinner and food was so good!! We ordered lacha paratha, garlic naan, malai kofta, and paneer. Food was very flavorful. However if you are looking for kind of high end fine dining like Dhamaal it’s not but it’s big enough and definitely more than a take away place. I will definitely recommend Chatni.

We stepped in here somewhat randomly while we were in Montclair, mainly because someone opened the door and we caught whiffs of something fragrant and delicious. Like the famed Toucan Sam, we followed our noses inside.

There are two menus here, and if you arrive while lunch specials, your server will automatically bring you the menu with the specials. I overheard a nearby table asking for ‘the other menus’, and based on their conversation, it seemed like they wanted the bigger portions of the dinner menus. Something to keep in mind if you’re especially hungry.

That said, my husband and I were more than satisfied with our lunch specials. We were given a metal pot filled to the top with rice AND a basket of four naan, each of which were branded with tandoori char and given a generous brush of fat before arriving at our table. Both were excellent eating vessels for our curries. We ordered the Our surprising favorite was the baigan bharta, a curry made with fire-roasted eggplant. We couldn’t stop dragging pieces of naan through this tasty bowl, leaving us to nickname it thereafter the Indian Baba Ghanoush.’.

Service left something to be desired. When we walked in, there was a single server who clearly wanted to be anywhere but by our table side. Interactions were kept short and curt, and there was such little warmth and welcome from the moment we arrived, when we awkwardly waited by the entrance and waited to be acknowledged.

In the end, we’re so glad we came in, because the food is outstanding. If you make it in time for the weekend lunch specials (which includes your choice of two entrees, rice, and naan), know you’re in for a reasonably priced and decently filling meal. Weekday lunch specials are even more fairly priced, with meals under $11.

Delivery Order – Kind of having mixed feeling about the food. Veg Sampler (Appetizers) was just average with barely any seasoning and they did not seem fresh. Biryani good but some of the Lamb pieces were overcooked and chewy. Noodles was pretty good. I have a feeling their Indo-Chinese and Curries will probably taste better

My go to place for Indian meals in Montclair. The taste is superb and hospitality is great. Their lunch boxes M-F also have great options for good prices.

Ordered delivery and was looking forward to the bhindi (okra) masala dish. Not sure if they try the food before they send it out but the dish was completely inedible. I tried my best but spit it out after each bite. It was hard, fibrous and woody almost. Such a disappointment and I would not recommend anyone put themselves through that experience.

The food is good and can be better.
Friendly staff and fast service.

The only problem was too much of smoke (tadka) inside.

We’ve been coming to this restaurant regularly, and every visit is such a wonderful experience. The food is always delicious, fresh, and full of flavor, easily some of the best Indian cuisine we’ve had in the area. What really makes our visits extra special is the service. I especially want to mention Sanju, who always makes us feel welcome. He is attentive, kind, and remembers the little details that make dining here such a pleasure. Highly recommend this place!

The food is really good. It’s BYOB. The service was fast and the food was nice and fresh. I should mention the only times I’ve gone was in the late afternoon so I don’t know how the wait/service time is in the evening on busy nights.
The mango lassi wasn’t the best I’ve had but it was pretty good. The portions were big enough for me to take to lunch except the rice. I had to get an extra side of rice and nan bread bc of how much sauce they give you in comparison. I prefer this place to the other Indian restaurant on Bloomfield Ave.
This is a nice place to go for quick Indian food.
