Normally I get a cold deli sandwich but today I wanted to try the Special Roast beef panini with chipotle sauce, lettuce, and tomato. I walked into the cafe and had my heart set on that special that I saw written beautifully on the chalk board. Surprisingly there were no other customers in the restaurant just staff busily working on orders. As I stood under the “Order Here” sign waiting I did not get any greeting or acknowledgment from any of the staff. I wasn’t too bothered about not receiving any attention from the staff because I’ve worked in a cafe and know that lunch gets busy so I assumed they were just working hard and would get to me soon especially since no other customers were inside.
About a minute later another man walked in after me at which point someone said “oh we’ll be right with y’all.” I was curious why they waited until then to acknowledge the line but again figured they were just busy. Then a staff member walked up to the register right in front of were I was standing under the “Order Here” sign, ignored me and asked the guy BEHIND me if they could help him and he proceeded to order.
I was in shock because I was the only one in the restaurant before the other customer entered after me and I know all the staff saw me and made eye contact with me. All I could think of saying was, “sooo…am I invisible???” None of the staff said a word. The customer behind me said “oh I thought you already ordered.” I was so confused and upset I just calmly turned around and walked out.
Sadly I will not return to this restaurant and will sadly tell others about the poor customer service I experienced.
To some this may not be a big deal but to those who know. This is information is very helpful and I hope you never experience what I felt today.
My appetite is gone.
I was able to speak to the manager and offer feedback. She was GREAT and I’m sad I didn’t think to ask her name. She offered to give me something on the house but I let her know I was no longer hungry but I appreciate her acknowledgement so much. I thank her attempting to make things right. Unfortunately I still will not be back, but I wish her all the best because she alone deserves 5 stars today.
Shame on you. One of the customers present in the store walked out – I spoke with him outside, and hopefully he’ll share his experience too. This isn’t just about gloves; it’s about respect, appropriate customer service, and fundamental hygiene standards. Invest in your employees.
Very disappointing experience. I used to love this place, but during my recent visit, I was shocked to see staff taking orders, touching various surfaces, and then preparing sandwiches – without washing their hands or wearing gloves.
When I politely asked one of them to put on gloves, another server raised her voice at me, insisting that “no one uses gloves anymore” and told me to go somewhere else. I then asked for her name, but she refused to give it to me and ran away to the back and never came out again.
This level of disregard for basic hygiene, as well as the absence of customer service, is simply unacceptable. I’m attaching photos of the staff who were on shift at the time. I sincerely hope the owner takes this seriously and addresses the issue.
Highly recommend this delicious delicatessen!
As a paying customer, I don’t think you should have to pay another $5 just to get an ample amount of deli meat. (Please don’t use “inflation” as a justification or counter argument. ♂️)
The last few times I’ve visited Domenico’s, I’ve paid for sandwiches with a borderline ridiculous amount of meat…(for myself and family members.)
The service is always great! Even with a steady line out the door, the employees are usually friendly & welcoming.
I’m not trying to leave a “back-handed compliment,” but I’m also not going to give them one or two stars. I wish they’d “fix” the portion control issues! (The scale may need to be recalibrated every hour?)
I’m not saying to give customers the Fred Flintstone treatment when it comes to portions, but it does need to be better.
