If you are a fan of seafood, the Red Snapper is hands down the best in the city. They give you options, which I love–you can get it whole if you want to feel like you’re dining on an island, or you can get the fillet if you aren’t a fan of dealing with bones. Either way, it is seasoned to perfection and incredibly fresh.
Beyond the food, the vibe is what keeps me coming back. The atmosphere has always been amazing for me and my friends. The music is a total vibe (perfect for a night out), and the drinks are absolutely delicious–strong and flavorful.
Don’t let the internet talk you out of a good time. Teranga City is a gem!
So for the food part with only a few people there we thought could have been better the lemon pepper wings were good with flavor but the garlic and ranch ones could have been better. Also not a fan of the ranch cups .We also ordered the snapper that my wife had been waiting to try for a few weeks but was taken back that it was fried and not grilled. The waitress didn’t give us the option as we could have gotten it grilled. So not matter the amount of people of time of day the gratuity will be added. Overall I would give them another try not sure how the parking is on nights and weekends but plenty doing the day
At first, I wondered if we should try another place before ordering, but since the music was still at a comfortable level, we decided to stay and enjoy happy hour margaritas. The margarita tasted more like lemonade than a traditional margarita, so I ended up having our waitress bring a cup of limes to adjust the flavor. For $5, it wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t quite what I expected either.
Around 8 pm, the music got noticeably louder, loud enough that it became hard to hear each other, but at least the playlist was good.
For dinner, we ordered the lamb chops. Now I know we have all seen the IG posts calling them the best in the city, so I was excited to try them. Unfortunately, mine were tougher and more overcooked than expected, and not seasoned very well. Crave definitely has better lamb chops but maybe I just came on a bad night.
That said, the service was truly exceptional. The hostess and our server were incredibly kind, attentive, and personable, honestly some of the best service I’ve experienced.
I don’t want to write this place completely off, because there were definitely positives, and I’ve seen great things about their brunch. I may give that a try next time. For anyone considering the lamb chops during dinner, I’d say give them a try, but maybe with low expectations.
My first downside was the security process. When I go to a restaurant to spend my hard-earned money, I don’t expect to be patted down by a security guard at the door. It was uncomfortable and disappointing, especially since this isn’t something I experience when visiting restaurants of other cultures, where I can simply walk in and be seated.
The second downside is the atmosphere. The restaurant felt more like a club than a dining experience. I came with two other people, and the music was so loud that we could barely hear ourselves talk or think. There’s nothing wrong with music, but it should allow guests to comfortably engage with one another while enjoying their meal.
On a brighter note, the service was great. The host stand could be a bit more organized when handling reservations, but it wasn’t a major issue. Our food also came out very quickly, which we appreciated.
Overall, if you’re interested in a Black-owned, club-style dining experience with great food, this may be the perfect spot for you. If that’s not your vibe, I’d recommend ordering the food to go because the food itself is definitely worth it.
