My coworker and I came to this Thai restaurant after our usual spot was really busy, and we were pleasantly surprised as soon as we walked in. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I had the beef salad while my coworker ordered the massaman curry and the spring rolls. The beef salad was good overall, though the cucumbers had a sour taste. I still enjoyed it, just skipped the cucumbers. Everything else was great, and overall I would definitely return to this location.

I ordered the sweet and sour sauce entree and the menus online and the physical menus at the store showed that the price was $15.95. When she rang me up at the counter, the price was over $23… I was confused and didn’t know if she was trying to up me without me knowing or if the menus were simply outdated. So I asked her… “are these menus and prices up to date”? She said “yes they are up to date” I will still give them the benefit of the doubt that she simply didn’t know that she over charged me but I will no longer be coming to this restaurant. The food was very very basic, little to no flavor and the white rice was dry and tasted a couple days old. I didn’t finish the food and unfortunately threw it out and trying it.

Authentic Thai flavors! The dishes are always served fresh with delicate broths and delicious spices. Homemade and authentic is what keeps us coming back. More than a little pricey and small portions. But after trying many, many local thai restaurants, we continue to return to Krungthai for the truly authentic, simple thai flavors. The thai iced tea is one of my favorites around, too. That, too, is not for a small price tag. It’s really a big splurge when we go! The friendly service and family recipes keep us wanting more. May I suggest mango and sticky rice for every visit When mangos are not in season, they’re not available but always go for the fried bananas in lieu of. My favorite dish is the prik king with the perfect balance of heat and flavor. For a comfort dish, I always turn to drunken noodles or any of the delicious curry dishes. The red curry is an all-time favorite in comparison to anywhere I have ever had it. The pad thai is hit or miss. Though that’s really only what I suggest for those who don’t enjoy any heat as Parr of their meal. I would suggest trying each menu item at least once. Nothing disappoints. Family owned and operated. I wish whoever is responsible (restaurant owners or the owners of the building) would address whatever issue is causing the standing water smell. That is the only complaint.

Man I paid $64 for two dishes. I order the catfish which was over $20 something dollars. My fish was dry as hell, instead of getting two full catfish fillets it look like they took one full catfish fillet and cut it in half. The fried rice although had a generous amount of crab meat the rice itself was bland and had no flavor. The food I received today was no where near worth $63.45…This food was way over priced for what I was served today!!!!!!!! Will not be coming back here unless this gets fixed. I will just wait until Monday when Thai Papaya opens up. At less I get what I paid for there..

Krung Thai Street Grill is a dream come true for lovers of Thai food. The standards are so exacting—and so scrupulously maintained—that I believe it is safe to say that if the owner’s grandmother showed up for lunch or dinner, she could find nothing that would not remind her of her childhood!

As Krung Thai Street Grill is far from my house, it had been too long since my own last visit. But today I put myself in the neighborhood, knowing I would never be disappointed. In my book it has always deserved five stars. And today I decided to photograph everything, and planned to write this review.

The main highway running east and west in Hampton is Mercury Boulevard. Sadly you cannot SEE Krung Thai Street Grill from
Mercury Boulevard—I checked that today from both directions. So you must exit Mercury Boulevard onto N. King Street, heading north. Krung Thai Street Grill will then be in the small shopping center at the first left turn at the traffic light.

Today’s lunch was “back to basics” for me, starting with the heavenly aroma of a generous bowl of the lemon grass soup with three fresh shrimp and many straw mushrooms known as Tom Yum Goong. You can eat everything in the bowl except the slices of lemon grass and a couple of bay leaves—and you will be glad you did! The same soup with chicken rather than shrimp is known as Tom Yum Gai, and it is equally delicious!

But today I chose to have the chicken as a salad known as Larb Gai, which has always been a very popular Thai dish of ground chicken breast, onions and lettuce. Unless you specify otherwise, it will be prepared very mild—but you may quickly adjust it to your own taste by requesting a pepper tray, which has several preparations of Thai hot peppers in various media—fish sauce, usually the darker of the offerings, adds aroma and flavor as well as heat.

As usual, the meal was accompanied with the excellent Thai lager beer Sing Ha.

Although the menu does not include desserts, I was delighted to find that Krung Thai Street Grill was still able to offer the wonderful confection called Mango Sticky Rice, the fresh ripe mango served chilled with the steaming hot sticky rice coated with sweet coconut sauce beside it. Yes, I managed to photograph that, too, before I greedily consumed it!

I feel I should mention that although there are crab dishes available on the menu, backfin crabmeat has recently exceeded $42 a pound, and it would not be wise to expect a lot of crab in any dish. Beef, too, has risen dramatically in recent days, and Krung Thai Street Grill adds a $3 surcharge when beef is substituted for chicken or pork on menu items (there is a warming of the surcharge displayed prominently on the menu). Also, credit cards are accepted for orders of $7 or more, as credit card processing prices have shot up.

If the King of Siam ever flies from Germany to Virginia for a State Visit, I think perhaps the greatest honor we could pay him would be dinner at the Krung Thai Street Grill! In the meantime, I recommend you treat yourself like a king or queen: visit Krung Thai Street Grill and DON’T LET THESE DISHES GO TO WASTE!

The place itself was very cute, nice atmosphere. The service was lovely, lady was very nice. My order was not ok. Drunken noodle chicken was ground chicken and not breast strips. Will Not eat here again. It was nice to try a new place but unfortunately not a good experience.

Do not recommend. Staff was very friendly but food was disappointing. Ordered drunk noodles with veggies to go and the serving was maybe 1.5 cup of noodles and 1 cup of veggies in a small bowl – for over $10! (Pic is after a few bites) Noodles did not even appear to be cooked in the sauce, it just seemed like the sauce was poured over and mixed in. Not at all competitive for the Hampton Roads area.

Used to love coming here pre-pandemic. Decided to get takeout and ordered crab fried rice. To be fair, It tasted amazing. HOWEVER, I paid $27 for a couple scoops of rice and a couple pieces of crab. Wouldn’t have minded the cost if the portion matched the price. I felt GOUGED. Totally cheated. And it was my birthday. ‍♀️ Pic for proof.

The restaurant is very inviting and very pleasant to be in. The staff is also awesome. Worth that the food isn’t the best. Chicken is dry. Noodles are soggy. Broccoli is cooked well though. And the flavor is great. Portion size is not worth $13.
