Came here for brunch and honestly loved it. The cowboy-themed vibes were fun and different, and the place just had a good energy overall.

We tried the huevos rancheros, mole chilaquiles, and hot cakes — everything was really good and super flavorful. The house-made salsas were delicious and the portions were BIG, so come hungry. Nothing felt skimpy and everything tasted fresh.

Great spot for a laid-back Mexican brunch in San Diego. Good food, good vibes, good service and I’d definitely come back again.

Great atmosphere and customer service. Birria was good at reasonable price full order for $20. They offer complimentary chips or Mexican bread we went with chips. Tortillas were dipped in oil which I love and they give you complimentary desserts. While I was there they sang 3 times for someone’s birthday and brought out complimentary cake. I enjoyed the ambience good music as well. I will be going back.

I love trying new places, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover this gem is owned by the famous seafood restaurant just down the street that we adore! We visited after my eldest’s soccer win, and the experience was fantastic. The food was delicious, and even though there was a considerable wait, we were seated quickly as a party of four.

Our waitress was friendly and brought our drinks promptly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The music was enjoyable, and it was a nice bonus to witness another guest celebrating their birthday, it added to the festive vibe! Finding good cafe de olla can be a challenge around here, but this one was exceptionally delicious. My husband and daughter were thrilled with the agua frescas served in giant glass mugs. I ordered the carne en salsa verde, and I was so excited that I forgot to take a picture before diving in—so here’s a shot halfway through my meal! It was served with warm tortillas, while my toddler enjoyed sausage and eggs with a side of beans and potatoes. My daughter chose the chicken green enchiladas, and my husband opted for the shrimp omelette.

Overall, the service was excellent, and the food was outstanding. We will definitely be back!

@elprietocantina @prietoscoffee — Not only you enjoy a delicious breakfast menu here, but you can also celebrate your birthday with a complimentary full cake! And that’s not all—the restaurant offers a free dessert to every guest. Who can resist that? I definitely can’t!
I loved the Western-style interior; it truly makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world, everybody was so friendly and welcoming there.

Highly recommended!

This place is a hidden GEM! Haven’t been to a breakfast spot like this in a long time. Abigail and Nancy were awesome and the decor is FUN. I would have gone back just for their Mexican coffee and complimentary sweet bread alone. Then we had their Quesabirria tacos and Norteno chilaquiles with homemade salas and were blown away with the flavor! We were inspired to wash it down with a delicious mango mimosa. Cannot wait to go back. Dont think twice, highly recommend!

This is a lively atmosphere! Its jumping! I love the country style look, from the decor to the waiters cowboy style outfits. This is a great place for birthday celebrations, or even to just sit at a fun bar!

[Let’s me break down the experience]

From the moment we checked in on a busy Saturday lunch, we were greeted with a smile, and complimentary café de olla.
And the love didn’t stop there. Once sat we immediately were handed little pastries stuffed with chocolate!
Then the complimentary home made chips and fresh salsa! Trust me, all of this is fresh, not store bought.

DO NOT SKIP THE AGUA CHILLES!! i tried the one with the mango, pineapple, & Tamarindo! It was some of the best I’ve ever tried!

I noticed other folks had jamica & horchata in what looked like 40oz cups! Huge!

All of our dishes were so good! I loved the Norteño Chilaquiles, the fish taco was stuffed with fish, and the menudo was not only amazing, but the size portion was legit. The half portion was big!

I saw a neighboring table eating omelets, they also looked big, and delicious.

After everything, we were gifted 3 tiny desserts: tres leche, tiramisu, and a pastrie, all absolutely amazing.

This place is a MUST TRY!!

Heard of this spot from an instagram post and decided to check it out for breakfast. I’m so happy I did, the food was so delicious! Most importantly the customer service is amazing. Everyone is so sweet and they check up on you without you having to chase anyone down. The huevos rancheros were delicious and my husband loved the menudo and Michelada. I dont ever leave reviews but I had to with this one.

My husband and I finally tried Cantina El Prieto after his coworkers recommended it, and it did not disappoint! We had birria and the aguachile verde and it was absolutely delicious. Our waitress, Imelda, was prompt, quick, and so attentive. The manager also checked in after our meal to ensure we were happy.

They served complimentary sweet bread , chips and salsa . The atmosphere is so cute and looks newly remodeled. We will definitely be back!

The food was okay — not bad, but nothing that really stood out either. They do give complimentary Mexican bread and bake goods. Parking isn’t the best, which makes it a bit inconvenient. The place does have a nice rustic barn-style décor, but there’s only one bathroom for the whole restaurant and no visible emergency exits. Overall, it’s an average spot, not somewhere I’d go out of my way to visit again.

The place was packed, yet the wait wasn’t so bad.
Our server Imelda was very friendly and checked in on us a couple of times.
The food was great and the prices are very reasonable.
We even got complimentary dessert !

Oh, the “pan dulce” was fresh and tasty as well
