MyT Life
Keen Kow Thai Food is tucked between Soldotna and Homer, and it definitely has that roadside-Alaska-meets-Thai-food kind of charm. Parking is your standard Alaskan dirt lot—functional, but don’t expect painted lines or clear spaces. Just pull in and make your own spot like the rest of us.
Vibe:
The restaurant is set in a rustic cabin, which makes for a cozy setting, though the Thai décor inside is pretty minimal. A few more touches could really bring the atmosphere to life. The sauce bar was a pleasant surprise, with authentic sauces that definitely gave us confidence in the kitchen.
One thing that felt a little mismatched was the music. While the food was authentically Thai, the playlist leaned more toward Usher. Don’t get me wrong—I enjoy a good throwback, but something about eating Thai curry in a cabin in Alaska while listening to “Yeah!” made the whole experience feel slightly off-kilter. Swapping in Thai music or something more atmospheric could instantly elevate the vibe. The bathrooms, too, were very basic and could benefit from a bit of decoration to match the theme.
Food:
Here’s where things get good. The spices and seasonings were spot on, and overall the food leaned more authentic than most Thai restaurants we’ve tried in Alaska. I ordered the special, which was flavorful and satisfying. My son had the curry fried rice, which leaned on the greasy side but still had great flavor. Despite a few hiccups, this place feels like it has serious potential. I’d definitely like to come back and try more dishes.
Service:
The women working here were friendly, attentive, and clearly knowledgeable about Thai culture and cuisine. That authenticity in service made the whole meal feel more genuine and enjoyable.
Overall:
If I could give this place 3.5 stars, I would. Since that’s not an option, I’ll say it’s somewhere between a 3 and 4. The food is some of the more authentic Thai you’ll find in Alaska, and the service was warm and genuine. With just a few tweaks to the vibe and atmosphere, Keen Kow could easily climb into solid 4-star territory.

Delicious meals. Spice levels can be adjusted, however some cannot due to the ingredients they’ve used. We ordered a dish (Chicken Larb) and made sure it was mild with no stars, although delish, but heat index was more like a 4 star level. The bathroom was clean and nice too. The indoor dining had tables for 2- 6 person. Outdoor seating avail during summer months. Beautifully decorated restaurant for a homely eatery dining experience.

Nice little comfy place. The food was delicious and service was great. I regret that I hadn’t taken photos of the food. It looked as good as it tasted and that’s delicious.

Great food and for people like me they can tone down the heat. They’ll cook your catch of the day . Nina the chef is a magician. Once the order is place the food is cooked fresh and you are served . The waitress is also Thai very attentive . The lucky man that owns the place with his wife Nina the chef, has great stories and is just a good old guy that makes you feel so welcome .

Very good Thai food. I did feel the portions were a little small for the price though. The noodles were cooked perfectly with no extra oil like most Thai places. So glad we stopped in and they gave the kids stickers when we left. Place is small with 10 tables or so. Service was fast and food came out even faster. This will be a regular stop when we head that way.

Expensive for average food. $80+ for a simple meal and drink for 2 is far too much for the value. Food is above average for an Alaska restaurant, that’s not saying much. I don’t understand these reviews unless people haven’t eaten any place else in the world or can’t boil water? It’s ok. Just not worth the money. It’s a tourist trap. Probably cheaper than Homer. But locals aren’t tourists.

After having caught halibut and iced it we learned from our boat captain that there was a nearby Thai restaurant that would prepare it…we had no idea what that included. We had an appetizer of lightly fried fish bites w/a sweet and sour sauce, a cilantro topped coconut and lemongrass soup. Plus, a mixed vegetable w/ lightly battered fish. It was the most delicious Thai dinner we’ve had. If you’re fishing in the area, we’d recommend it. Plus it was prepared quickly and It’s a wonderful memory for us.

Ordered yellow curry to go and they put it in a PAPER BOX! are you kidding me? It started leaking before I even got it to the car. Didnt give me any utensils, had to get my own and the portion of curry was significantly smaller than the ones ordered in house but still costs the same. Not worth the high price.
