Had my first toasted sourdough bagel. Yumm-o-licious! Topped it off with a fried egg, tomatoe, cheddar cheese and some sautéed red onion. Decided to try a blueberry muffin cause they just looked so amazing. Wow!! Moist and not too sweet. Perfect way to start my day. Chicago is really bringing the yumminess
Cheers to our next adventure

It’s a cute bagel shop and for a quick morning stop, it’s not too bad.
That said, these are not nearly the greatest bagels I’ve ever had. For the claim of “by the book” these bagels absolutely didn’t live up to the hype.
It’s got the vibe of a trendy Instagram place rather than anything close to an authentic deli with authentic bagels or the “Jewish style” deli the articles claim to make it out to be.
There are much better bagel options in the northshore, I would only recommend this if you need the convenience or a good Instagram spot.
Also has the reputation of having a lot of cops
From this current post—I got a bagel with “premium” cream cheese which was just cream cheese with large bits of scallions
The egg bagel had poppyseeds in it…that is nothing like an egg bagel from Chicago, Montreal, New York or anywhere

Great little bagel restaurant that aren’t too common around this area. Lots of options to choose from and very reasonably priced! Pictured is their version of the Monte Cristo on an everything bagel.

My family loves these bagels! We drive 25 minutes out of the way just for them every week. I love to see small businesses with a great product succeed. Keep it up guys!

I had wanted to try this place for awhile now. My daughter had a cheer comp at Libertyville high school. So while we waited for the comp to start, me and my youngest decided to finally give this place a try. We both thought the bagels were just ok. She went with a plain with cream cheese, I had the egg sandwich. I was expecting a thick egg sandwich but was only a thin piece of egg. The bagel itself is just ok, it seems like something is missing. I might give this place another shot. But it’s not high on the priority. Still on my search to find the best bagel in Northern IL. Once upon a bagel in Highland Park has been my favorite so far.

A real gem in the neighborhood! The first thing that stands out is the beautiful murals on the wall, absolutely amazing. Feels so smart seating under these absolute legends! Plenty of seats available under the murals too.
They even have a cozy room at the back with sofas and dangling fairy lights. It would be an amazing spot to hang out with friends in there!
I ordered the strawberry, chocolate, sesame and French toast bagels and all of them were great, but the French toast really stood out. I never had French toast bagel before but it totally makes sense. It’s so good even on its own, a little sweet and savory.
There’s so many bagel flavors to choose from here and they all look great. The stated stream of people coming in for breakfast seems to agree. Most people were ordering a breakfast bagel which is reasonably priced, at around $4-7.

Ordered the lox platter to surprise my hubby and it was beautiful and delicious! The bagels are top notch and the presentation of the platter was made with care and perfect. Highly recommend this shop!

Went this morning for the first time and ordered the everything bacon & egg bagel. We thought the everything bagel tasted very bland like it was missing something. The egg and bacon in it was really good. The service and atmosphere is inviting but the bagel was bland. Their biscuits looked awesome and will go back to try them.

What a cool and cozy spit to eat delicious bagels of every variety imaginable and drink some of the best self serve coffee in lake county. You can tell by the line it is good. The service is so friendly and everything is so fresh. Sandwiches are prepared in front while you wait. We will definitely be back for more.

This is the absolute cutest bagel shop I have ever seen! The minute i walked in, i absolutely loved the vibe of the shop. We were immediately greeted by the cashier and he was extremely helpful and kind.
I ended up getting the blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese and my plus one got an ancient grain bagel with regular cream cheese. We went first thing Monday morning and the bagels were absolutely fresh. They had a huge variety of flavors to choose from and the prices are extremely reasonable. I highly recommend trying one of their various cream cheese flavors which i believe are homemade. You can’t go wrong with any of the bagel flavors either! Next time, I’d be interested to try one of their egg sandwiches since it looks absolutely delicious. I suggest coming by before work one morning and giving Bagel by the Books a try!
