Quaint little diner nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains with the most delicious fried pickles I’ve ever tried. Crisp, hot, flavorful and served with house made ranch for dipping. The burgers were fresh and juicy, but didn’t feel heavy or overly greasy. Our server was welcoming and prompt, and to top it off the prices were fantastic. Will definitely be going back again

Good lunch spot as we arrived into the Boone area. Staff was attentive. A good varied menu. We just stuck to sandwiches but I could see plenty of folks having fork/knife meals. It definitely gets busy at prime lunch time

Special was meatloaf or ham on Tuesdays, so my husband opted for the meatloaf and I got the pepper jack burger. So glad we stopped in! The food was great, the corn nuggets(!!) were delicious (try them with their ranch dressing!), my son ate all his chicken tenders without arguing.

I love diners and this is a great one! Brightly lit and cheery its a great space to eat their comfort food. The meatloaf, blackeyes, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were quite good. Hushpuppies were terrific! Busy, smiling servers. Delicious dessert offerings. Full of local working folks, a sure sign of good food and happiness. They actually have a whiteboard that has an active prayer list on it. You can tell these Girls care about their community. Some outside seating available. Despite costs rising (see photo) their costs are very reasonable. Plenty of parking.

I’ve driven right past the Blue Ridge Diner many times and never found the time to go in and today that was proven to be a mistake. I set out to eat lunch there for the first time and I’m happy I did. I had the special, country fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes and black-eyed peas. The portion was huge, almost too much, the steak was crispy and tasted great. The peas were seasoned right and even the coffee was strong and good tasting. All in all, this will be repeated as often as it can be.

The family and I recently stopped here for lunch while passing through on a trip. The place was probably a little under half full when we arrived but it took close to 20 minutes for anyone to even come and take our orders. It took an additional 45 minutes for our food to arrive which considering what we ordered was ridiculous. Dad ordered the fish sandwich which arrived to the table without the coleslaw and tartar sauce he ordered. The chicken tender sandwich I ordered also didn’t have the cheese the menu claimed came on the sandwich. The real kicker though was the grilled cheese sandwich mom ordered. How do you screw up a grilled cheese you ask? Apparently you use a melon baller to measure out a portion of cheese, dump it half hazardly onto a slice of bread, and then apparently cook it open face and without any type of butter on the bread to help crisp it up! Now, the sandwich also supposedly came with bacon as well. For a $3 sandwich a single slice of bacon ripped in half seems like a weak attempt but no one was really upset by that. What was even more galling though was the fact that when we complained that the GRILLED CHEESE was neither grilled properly or had cheese not one, but TWO separate waitresses, instead of apologizing and offering to remake the sandwich, tried to gaslight us into believing that’s what you get for a $3 sandwich. And the second one was making excuses for the bacon. No one cared about the bacon. What we cared about was the fact that we came to this diner for lunch, were here a sum total of over an hour and ended up being served a grilled cheese made by a toddler with no concept of what a grilled cheese actually was. Shame on you for having such low quality standards. If you can’t make a proper grilled cheese sandwich for $3 then take it off the menu or bump the price a little. Everyone understands that with inflation cost of goods and labor is rising, it’s a fact of the world we live in. But to serve sub-par food and then blame the customer for complaining about said food? Do better.

The GREAT: prices. The prices are INSANE here. Most affordable meal ever. The service was also excellent. A bit slow because it was swamped, but our waitress paid attention to us and took care of us from beginning to end in an effective, friendly, and thoughtful manner.
The GOOD: the food was pretty solid. At least the grilled chicken sandwich and the country fried steak.
The BAD: the parking lot was a mess. Hard to get in and out of. Ownership sounds semi-incompetent based on what some of the waiters and waitresses said. They set a limit on how much you can tip. Are you serious? The bathrooms are also not great. It’s a bit cramped inside – no way in hell we were dining inside in covid times. Much of the clientele weren’t exactly the type who would think much of covid as a threat to ones health.
Oh man the salad was a joke too. Iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber, shaved carrots. Soggy, bland, awful. Seemed like a diversity add to their menu. Just checking off a box lol.
OVERALL: A surprisingly good visit given that we had to bail on our first choice restaurants in Boone (way too crowded in Boone that Friday). I can’t give this place five stars overall, but it had some definite five-star aspects to it (along with some two star aspects). I’d go again if I lived in the area or if Boone is just too mobbed and you are headed north up the Blue Ridge Parkway.
