The food is great but under busy period is when the quality service dips. The wait for the phones is a little long. Less busy periods and I confidently can rate this restaurant a 4/5.

Was super excited to get a Fajita Mix Combination, bunch of meats, veggies, rice, salad, beans, chips etc! Drove all the way out in this awful snow, got my order and went home. They completely missed the secondary container that was supposed to be included (rice , beans , salad etc). $24+ on half a meal, guess I’ll be eating plain chips and mixed meats tonight……
This isn’t the first time I’ve had issues here. At this point I’m writing it off and never going back. Over priced food, usually always have something missing or messed up. It’s not worth the money or hassle.

It just isn’t quite worth it in my opinion. It is pretty cheap, but at the same time expensive for what it is. I’d rather have just gotten taco bell at this point. The food isn’t really seasoned at all, and the quality is exceedingly mediocre. Considering I can get similar food items at practically the same quality from taco bell for like 4 bucks less, I don’t see the allure. Maybe I got unlucky, but my portion was abysmal in size and the flavor wasn’t there.

Great food!! The Border Steak and Shrimp burrito is AMAZING. When I first got it, I was actually disappointed because the shrimp were tiny… HOWEVER the FLAVOR of the shrimp is absolutely PERFECT. AFTER eating it, I was glad the shrimp were small because I think larger shrimp would have OVERWHELMED all the other delicious flavors!! Great place, great staff, great prices!!!!

Imo It’s a little pricey for a taco shop. Although they do have $1 hard beef tacos which I will have to try next time. This time, I got the taco salad in the edible bowl. $11.87 after taxes. The filling was pretty good but the bowl was overcooked/ burnt and tasted like old fry oil. (Photos attached) It was a bit disappointing because thats the part I look forward to the most.
Also, the parking lot sucks. It’s very small and really dangerous to pull out of because you have to back out onto the road, at a busy intersection. Not the smartest location for a takeout restaurant.

I decided to try out California Taco Shop in my ongoing attempt to try each of the Mexican places in and nearby Woonsocket. To me, it comes out in the middle of the pack – a little pricey, but a lot tasty, the portions are generous and well produced.
I got the Fiesta Plate because I had no idea how much I was going to actually get. What arrived was probably a day and a half worth of cheesy, meaty, and saucy delights. I also git chips with salsa and guacamole, because there is no kill like overkill 🙂
The beans were on the salty side, but went well with chips, rice, and as an all purpose ‘dip this into beans’ experience.
The rice was perfectly fine. Nothing to rant or rave about.
The rolled tacos were on the dry side. Perfect candidates for dipping in sourcream, salsa, or beans. Or guacamole.
The enchiladas were competent. Cheesy, saucy – everything you want in an enchilada.
The quesadillas were the highlight, and were unbelievably good. Ample meat, well prepared – I was expecting much less of these and was bowled over. Next time, I’m gonna just get the quesadilla combo plate. It is that good.
Where does that leave us?
With a Mexican place that is competitively priced with its nearest neighbor, offering indoor seating and quesadillas stuffed with a fist full of well prepared meat.
California Taco Shop is high on my list. They’ve done good and I hope they keep going for a long time to come.

I have ordered here a few times and it was delicious. But on my most recent visit my order was completely wrong. I ordered a chimichanga with extra guacamole and everything else that comes in the chimichanga lettuce, sour cream, pico , cilantro, beans. What i received was meat, cheese and rice! It was so gross no flavor. I guess if you ask for any kind of modification they cooks get confused and don’t know how to follow instructions. I don’t think I will return as the service and quality have gone down hill dramatically. There are ton more options other than this place I suggest going somewhere else.

Update 2/4/26 – I really think Im a glutton for punishment. All i have to say is either call them or go directly and wait for your food because if you order online its a $3+ upcharge. I think since I have an issue everytime I come its time to stop going. The girl at the counter just shrugged her shoulders and said “its the website” what great customer service.
Update 4/8/24 – needed a quick dinner and decided to give them a try again. Not sure why I bother. I got a Cali box and 3 tacos for my husband. They forgot the lettuce and cheese in my chicken taco from the Cali box and barely any chips. They haven’t changed since my previous review a few years ago.
They always forget food and the last time I ordered they hung up on me when I told them I couldn’t accept the full amount that they had already made. I ordered their $1 now $2 tacos and I didn’t need all of them when I called back 5 minutes later they were upset that I couldn’t take them and instead of talking to me about it they hung up on me.

Got delivery tonight. We ordered through GrubHub, and under instructions, we asked for extra green salsa verde for both tacos and the burrito. We didn’t get any salsas, red or green. We ordered chips and salsa, and extra salsa (since the portion of salsa is enough for maybe ¼ the chips they give) and only got the 1 salsa. The food tasted good despite arriving lukewarm, even though they’re only 5 minutes away.
