At first I thought this was place was rather bougie. I took a day trip to Tecate with no clear plans. I was there on a Tuesday, and when I entered the rather empty establishment, I was asked if I had an appointment. I told them no and intended to walk away, but it was my wife’s birthday and she wanted to stay. I am glad we did stay and eat; every dish of our five course meal was cooked, baked or prepared to perfection. Very rare to say we loved every food dish. Several times I felt like a character from ratatouille cartoon movie! . Afterwards it hit me, this was not just eating but experiencing the food in its complexities. I understand why they ask for a reservation, so they can cater to individual tastes and avoid allergies, but we eat everything and have no allergies. . I didn’t like two things about this place, one is being pushy on the reservation ( I was told multiple times that I should make one), this can turn off people who may otherwise never have a food experience like this! The other is the food is so delicious, yet my tea was from a tea bag with hardly any flavor. I found it odd that a place with such complicated and delicious food would not at least serve loose leaf teas or teas with complex favors to match.
It’s short this place offers something unique in food, it’s not just eating but enjoying an experience.

Update 2026!
here’s an updated review:
Restaurant Amores in Tecate, Baja California, México is getting better with each iteration, and this third version is no exception. had a fantastic romantic dinner there – the intimate setting was perfect, and the customer service was top-notch. the food, as expected, is incredible, living up to the chef’s previous performances. some standout dishes were the octopus and the butternut squash soup. love the touch of offering Tecate beer, a nod to the town’s brewery – really adds to the experience. supporting this chef and his team is a no-brainer. if you’re in Tecate, Restaurant Amores is a must-visit.

Wonderful and wonderful service. The address currently is not what google maps shows so we had trouble finding it. The correct address is Roque Gonzalez 201, Colonas del Cuchumá, Tecate

Incredible 5 course tasting menu. All of the dishes were amazing. Service excellent although a touch slow for US standards- which I liked. Highly recommend this place to all foodies. Can’t wait to go back.

Amores is the perfect name for this excellent restaurant. It is definitely difficult not to fall in love with the different flavors presented by chefs Marcelo and Reina. The quality of service that Jesus (waiter) provided us was impeccable. The music, the wine selection, the atmosphere, everything was at the level of a 5 Michelin star restaurant. Thank you Jack for recommending this place

They offer a rather unique experience; after ascertaining any allergies and/or dislikes, one only orders the number of courses and desired protein. Each course is then brought to your table and a thorough description of ingredients and prep method is explained. It’s not cheap but, in my opinion, worth it.

Wonderful as always, visited on their new location, lovely atmosphere and they always exceed my expectations, the food is delicious, as always all plates are prepared utilizing plants, vegetables, flowers and they come together surprisingly fine, main dish was pork chop and chicken breast, me and my wife decided to order one of each to be able to try both, believe me we weren’t disappointed. We were so full after dessert we needed a nap.
This is a place you should try for an unforgettable experience….

We had an amazing 4-course lunch menú yesterday! The kitchen was able to make it vegetarian on the spot, and each course was full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the carrot/curry soup with fresh orange. The servers were friendly & helpful, and the Covid precautions made us feel comfortable. We will be back! Pictures of our 1st courses:
