Waitress was kind and attentive, but we stopped for the advertised best fried chicken, and apparently, it’s not in season? Restaurant needed a bit of rehad inside and seating was tight…although there were many issues, the steak sandwich was one of a kind, delicious and the grilled vheese was tasty.

Came back a year later n finally got the fried chicken, it was ok, not dry but not moist, seasoning was good. But the cheesesteak sandwich is where its as.

First State Corn & More – Quick Review:

What to expect:
– Casual boardwalk snack stand in Rehoboth Beach, DE
– Known for Mexican-style corn in a cup, tacos, and street food

✅ Pros:
– Tasty corn cups (some say it’s flavorful and fun)
– Good location for a quick bite while walking the boardwalk

❌ Cons:
– Prices may feel high for portion size
– Mixed reviews on food quality (some say tacos are bland)
– Wait times can be long during busy hours

⭐ Overall:
Good for a quick snack, not a full meal. Try the corn cup — skip the tacos if you’re picky.

Best dam fried chicken on the beach.
Also probably the best meal deal on the beach at the same time. Mind the seagulls they love Gus’s fried chicken too. They will steal a whole drumstick if given the chance. The staff work very hard in a lot of heat so give them a break. They are good people providing
you a good meal at a place where you are looking at the ocean while you wait.

I ate here twice in the span of 12 hours. First around 10PM and I scored the last cheeseburger of the day. It was perfectly greasy and delicious, with exactly the toppings I asked for, nice and fresh. I happily strolled the boardwalk with my paper-wrapped treasure. The next day I waited in line at peak lunch hour and made some new friends in the 30 minutes or so it took to get to the window. Cheesesteak and hotdog were right on point for the kids. For me I got a crabcake sandwich and wish I didn’t. It was bland and boring, and it lacked the tartar sauce I ordered so I had to go back to get that. It did not help much. I think at times the line of communication between the order taker, the griller and the rest of the staff gets a little strained so keep your order simple. Stick with the basics: burgers, steaks, dogs and fries and you will be fine.

Great food for the beach. It’s simple and it’s light, so you’ll have no problem walking across the boardwalk after eating. The fries are freshly cut and cooked so they’re delicious. Currently it’s CASH ONLY but I didn’t see that on their website. I’d go again if I didn’t want a heavy meal.

Tried to sit in the restaurant, which was filthy. Waitress was so nasty from the minute we sat down that ended up going to the take out window instead (she missed out on a tip from a 9 top). The burgers were good, nothing special. Wouldn’t recommend.

It’s not the cleanest place in the world, but sometimes these “hole in the wall” eateries are the best. I got a large cheesteak, which was a good size and tasted great. They’re known for their fried chicken, but I didn’t opt for it, because my nose preferred the smell of the cheesteak.

They probably should have torn down this restaurant years ago for health and safety. The amount of grease is unbelievable. I ordered an egg sandwich and got one egg.

What’s not to love? Lived here my whole life and every single person I know and/or introduce to gus and gus adore it! The best wax paper boardwalk burgers, fries that are better than thrashers- iconic and same family ownership since all of time. Anything less than 5 stars from anyone is clearly bc they want it to be something it’s not. Go enjoy a piece of what growing up at the beach
