Reviews
Overall the experience was okay. The customer service provided by Nicole was amazing and she truly saved this from being a 1 star review with her amazing service. The salads were good as they are simple salads. Out of all the food on each dinner plate I was only impressed by the potatoes which were amazing and the carrots were the second best I have ever had!! I could eat them as a daily snack! I was not a fan of the beef Wellington it tasted kinda funny but my husband tried it and said it was okay. The layered potato was alright. The asparagus was unflavored and bland. The steak was alright. Overall our bill was $70 and we only really liked the salads and two sides. I’m kinda sad because MANY people recommend this place but I was only impressed by 4 out of 8 things served 2 being salads… My husband isn’t picky and he wasn’t impressed either.
The chicken sandwich was hardly edible. The bottom bun was so burnt that I can’t believe they put it in the box.
The chicken sandwich itself was so dry that it was hard to chew.
This is the second time that I’ve tried this restaurant. The first time, I didn’t leave review but I contacted the owner and he recommended that I come back and try again. He offered to pay for a meal, but I wanted to just have the experience as a normal paying customer. Once again, a partial waste of money. The fries were good but the sandwich terrible. I think that the sandwich would be amazing if the people that worked in the kitchen actually cared about what they served to people. His recipes are well thought out and put together and I know he wants to be successful. It’s also a sign of the times, it’s hard to find hard workers and everybody is quiet quitting.
That being said, I frequent another restaurant in town and they always cook the food perfectly.
Reservation 7 PM on a Saturday
Seated: 6:57 PM and ordered our drinks and appetizer shortly after being seated.
Drinks: 7:06 PM our diet cokes arrived, and we ordered our sides and main courses and desserts.
Appetizers: 7:50 PM our order of Philly cheesesteak egg rolls arrived. These were good and I would recommend them, but they didn’t taste anything like a Philly cheese steak sandwich, but we all thought they were great. You get two egg rolls. They had a little kick which I loved.
Side Salad: 8:09 PM our Caesar side salads arrived. We all thought they tasted plain, and they were skimpy on the dressing. I did request more dressing for each salad, and they brought it out after a few minutes and the salad was made exponentially better with the extra dressing. I did not like the chewy homemade (?) crotons but my significant other enjoyed them. My son thought they were too hard to chew. If you are a traditional Caesar salad lover, I would not recommend this as it doesn’t taste like a Caesar salad. I do recommend this if you are open to a new twist on Caesar salad.
Main Courses: 8:40 PM our main courses arrived. The orders were the walleye dinner, meatloaf dinner and meatloaf sandwich. Let’s start with the good. The walleye was great. My girlfriend did not like the carrots, but I loved them. Taste is subjective. The walleye fillet was a large one and we all had a taste and loved it. The baked potato was just that, a plain baked potato, and is in our fridge but looks properly cooked. My son liked the bread and fries of the meatloaf sandwich but not the meat. I tasted the meat, and it was a bit on the dry side. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either.
Meatloaf dinner. If you see the picture it looks like a charred steak but trust me that is meatloaf. Ok let’s come back to that. The asparagus was ok, nothing special. The mash potatoes looked brown but tasted like regular mash potatoes. Nothing special there. Ok back to what is supposed to be meatloaf. I have never in my life had a meatloaf so hard. You could almost break it like a chip. If my video uploads you will see me try to cut it with a fork and it barely did the job after a couple of attempts. I couldn’t eat this. It was just too hard. I did let the waitress know and she gave me 50% off the meatloaf dinner. I accepted this but in reality, I only took one bite. This was terrible. It almost looks like they are pre-sliced then grilled to warm it up. They were very thin as well.
Dessert: 8:49 pm the caramel cheesecake arrived. We ended up just taking this home and still haven’t eaten it. It was late and we were ready to head home. The caramel doesn’t really look like caramel so it’s still in the fridge. If we do end up eating it I will update this review.
It’s very loud inside. And you have to walk through the main entrance of the hotel to access the restaurant. If you are looking for a quiet romantic evening…this is not the place to go. I personally didn’t mind the loud atmosphere (sounded like being in the middle of a crowded bar) but it was hard to even hear the waitress when ordering.
As always…I will go again at a different time and on a different day to see if anything has changed. I may post the video on YouTube and put the link here if the food is the same on my next trip.
Thanks again.
I had the Hanger and my wife had the Teras Major, both were so good. The Hanger was cooked so perfectly, I savored every bite. The best part wasn’t even the steaks, but the sides were amazing as well. The bacon jam carrots I had were the best carrots I’ve ever had.
My wife had their butterscotch ice cream for dessert and it was so good she wanted to lick the dish.
We will definitely be back and 10/10 highly recommend
We reserved the whole restaurant and had around 85 people. It did not feel crowded and everyone had room to sit, walk, chat, and be served. Even the kids were pleased!
They have my favorite beer on tap, along with a lot of other great options, including from local breweries! They also had amazing non-alcoholic options like strawberry mint lemonade. They served delicious appetizers – one my husband loved that was made of mushrooms (and he doesn’t even like mushrooms!). We had our meal served – surf and turf – which everyone loved! We chose the house salad and hanger steak with carrots and garlic mashed potatoes with a prawn. There were a lot to clean plates and many compliments! Regretfully, we don’t even have pictures of the main meal because we were too busy enjoying it. They also served a variety of desserts that our guests really enjoyed.
I cannot give them enough praise! The wait staff and kitchen staff was also wonderful! Vince has some serious talent and passion for what he does and it shows! Amanda is very detail-oriented, creative, and such a gracious host.
I recommend Flank Steakhouse to anyone – whether it is for lunch, a nice date night dinner, a get together with friends for drinks, or … maybe even a wedding!
