Sam’s Table is a fine dining restaurant that serves modern American cuisine. We source our ingredients from local foragers, fishermen and farmers, and we update the menu each month based on the freshest local ingredients of the season. A four-course chef’s tasting menu is available each night with choices for three of the four courses. Open seating times are available by reservation between 5-9:30 PM, and walk-ins are available space permitting.

From the moment we walked in, the service team set the tone for an exceptional evening. Warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, every member of the staff made us feel like honored guests rather than just another reservation.
Chef Sam is nothing short of gifted. Not only is his culinary talent extraordinary, but his kindness and humility truly stand out. He personally came to our table to wish me well, a gesture that made the evening feel even more special and memorable. It’s rare to find a chef of such caliber who is also so gracious and present.
Although Deborah, his mom, wasn’t there the evening we dined, I had the pleasure of speaking with her over the phone beforehand. She took her time walking me through the elaborate tasting veg menu with such patience and care. Her warmth and pride in what they’ve created were unmistakable, and that thoughtful conversation made us even more excited for the experience.
And the food—simply spectacular. Each course was more creative and unique than the last. The flavors were layered, thoughtful, and artfully presented. Every dish felt like a revelation, building on the one before it in both complexity and delight. By the end of the meal, we were genuinely in awe.
Sam’s Table delivers an experience that is refined, imaginative, and heartfelt. This is fine dining elevated—where exceptional cuisine meets extraordinary hospitality. We cannot wait to return!

I’ve been to a few restaurants with tasting menus and I must say this is one of my favorites. The ambience of the dining room reminds me of dining at my friends house. The staff/servers are extremely knowledgeable about the dishes and bring them to life with their presentations! As for the food…where do I begin? I love that Sam uses seasonal produce from local markets and vendors. It’s an element I appreciate. The flavor combinations are unique and make me do that little dance you do when you take a bite of some gooood food. Altogether, I’d say Sam’s Table is more than worth checking out (maybe even making it a monthly ritual with their changing tasting menus). 10/10 would recommend.

I’ve been wanting to go to this restaurant since it opened and we finally made it. We looked at the chef’s tasting but didn’t like the lack of choices so decided to go on Sunday for the a la carte. The space is lovely and cozy. They had a nice table for us as we were celebrating our anniversary. We brought a nice bottle of wine and started with the beets and the salsify. The beets were super smokey which was fine but after a couple of bites it was very overwhelming as it took over so the other flavors. The salad needed more seasoning as well as some citrus. The salsify was very well done and it was delicious! My husband ordered the cod which was good but spectacular and I ordered the duck which was quite underwhelming. It needed seasoning and the fat wasn’t rendered as well so the skin wasn’t very crispy. Considering the prices, I would have expected more. We didn’t bother with dessert.

Great new restaurant. We enjoyed the tasting menu (Friday and Saturday nights). Chef Sam is a master of discovering new, interesting foods to pair, many of which you may not expect to work. But they all do! The squash with silken tofu (pictured here) was one of many examples. Great vibe in the place – elegant but very comfortable. This place is a winner!

Had a wonderful dining experience celebrating our son’s wedding at Sam’s Table the other evening. We chose the tasting menu, and we were glad we did. When I first looked at the concisely written menu, I was a bit skeptical, given the prices. Once the food came, however, it occurred to me that perhaps the menu is simpler and less descriptive than most in order to enhance the “surprise factor” of the food. This is food as art! The celery root broth was an explosion of flavor in the mouth, a great opener to the meal. The house made rye bread (extra charge, and worth it) was dense and moist, with a crisp crust, served with room temperature butter. The Badger Flame beets salad was delicious and complex. The charred celtuce (a thick-stemmed lettuce, I learned) and uni was an umami “flavor bomb”. The boneless pork chop with smoked scallop xo and brussels sprouts was moist and spicy, absolutely delicious. I had the mandarin dessert (also an additional charge), which was tart and refreshing, but creamy and soothing at the same time. We chose two bottles of Beneduce wine, the dry riesling to start and a the winery’s signature Blaufrankisch red. Both were perfect pairings with the food we ordered. In the interest of full disclosure, I first met Sam when he was working with Michael Ceraldi up here in Cape Cod, and I know his father Brian (an extraordinary artist) and mother Deborah from the art world. Nevertheless, I would not be writing this review were I not genuinely enthusiastic about my experience at Sam’s Table.

Ate here on a rainy Sunday night and felt completely at home, in Sam’s cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The bread and butter were outrageously good – the butter was sweet against the flakey-and-salty-ness of the bread. The leeks with trout row were like the best leek soup of your life!! I will be thinking about that dish for a long time. We also started with the fluke in a sauce I could have drank straight from the plate. My hubs had the halibut and I had the duck, and we cleaned our plates. Both were deeply satisfying and sumptuous. Wow. The panna cotta at the end was light and a perfect end to a perfect meal. Sam is doing something special here and we are so lucky he chose Montclair to bring his creativity and spot on palette. Thank you, Sam!

Wow – Montclair has really missed this since Tabke 8 and Passione closed a decade + ago. This small restaurant reminded me of a time where craft cooking, prep of ingredients and unique combinations of styles were important! The prixe fixe menus at $85 are a real value considering going out with a bottle of wine easily hits that. Well done!!! Go Sam’s Table- giving an elevated feel to dining again. Only negative- Small spot- so reserve early to avoid missing the boat.

Had a fantastic tasting menu for New Year’s Eve at Sam’s Table! Highly recommend you checking them out, and trust their palates because their dishes will not disappoint. Each and every dish was composed with texture, flavor and freshness in mind. And if they serve the French Fry Ice Cream, boy will you be glad! Excited to FINALLY have an every day restaurant in the burbs that is serving dishes that are equally as stellar as the restaurants we love in NYC. Not stuffy with creative, fresh and delicious food. Can’t wait to go back!

One of the only Michelin star worthy restaurants in New Jersey. Price may seem high, but you’re getting a menu that would cost double in Manhattan and would still compete in that market. Make sure you try some things you wouldn’t normally order, because Sam can make anything delicious. I guarantee you will leave having learned you love something new.

We had a beautiful experience dining at Sam’s Table! Every one of the 5 courses was delicious and had a surprising element. It’s clear that the chef is greatly talented but also has fun creating the dishes. Service was outstanding. You can bring your own wine or they have it here. The menu changes monthly. Can’t wait to be back!
