This is not a review I wanted to write since my family and I love ordering from here. However, on Saturday as I was eating a birria burrito I felt something sharp in my mouth. I immediately took the food out of my mouth and found a piece of glass. I opened up the burrito to see if there were any other broken glass pieces. I was thankful that the glass wasn’t in any of my children’s food. The thought of chewing down on it and breaking a tooth or my children swallowing it is disturbing.
I gave the restaurant a call. In hopes of just informing them as frequently visiting customers and perhaps some sort of refund. Instead I spoke with an employee who went back and forth with the manager stating that I could go and get a burrito now with no charge. I wouldn’t want another burrito after what happened. No sincere apology was given. Not much effort was made to make things right. Maybe I was expecting too much as a customer. I was hoping the manager would want to speak with me immediately to apologize. Rather I was the one that asked for a refund and to speak to the manager. Yet again, no sincere apology. The fact that I didn’t have the physical burrito with me was more important than actually apologizing for the situation.
Saddened by the lack of care for their customers.

The management here is completely disorganized. The front counter staff can’t seem to handle the simple task of putting the correct food in the correct bag, yet they’re quick to blame the cooks. The cooks make the food — they’re not responsible for handing it out. Basic accountability and competence seem to be missing. Do better.
This place gave us the wrong order. We trusted that the correct food was in the bag. We drove 20mins back home and 20mins back to get our order fixed. We only got 3 things out of everything that we ordered and we got the rest of someone else’s food. We asked them to remake it and they refused at first bringing out the cold food they gave us and then magically made the missing food appear. The said it would be a waste of food if they re made it for us. I told them I honestly didn’t not care and to remake the food because it wasn’t our fault they gave me the wrong order. The food would be super cold. They remade it and then said we should’ve called. I honestly feel they just reheated the original food and made the missing food and placed it back in new containers. Waste of time and money is more like it.

I drove by this place several times and I always looked inside the window and there’s always a lot of people so I came in today at Tuesday around 6 o’clock. I ordered the Chicharron with rice and beans, chicken tacos, Carne Asada tacos and Al Pa store tacos, let me tell you this place is a hidden gem very good friendly people clean no loud, obnoxious music playing all about the food. I’ll be coming here more often. Thank you.

El Azteca is a gem for authentic Mexican cuisine! We tried the steak fajitas and tacos, and both were absolutely delicious. The steak fajitas were perfectly seasoned, tender, and served sizzling hot with fresh peppers and onions. The portion was generous, and the sides of rice, beans, and warm tortillas complemented the dish beautifully.
The tacos were equally impressive – bursting with flavor and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The balance of spices and textures was spot on, making every bite enjoyable.
The service was attentive and friendly, and the cozy atmosphere added to the overall experience. We’ll definitely be returning to El Azteca for another fantastic meal! Highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic and flavorful Mexican food.

This is hands down my favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in the area. I grew up in Southern California; VERY spoiled when it comes to authentic Mexican cuisine. It’s a comfort food for me too, but only when it’s done right. This location DOES IT RIGHT (I do not like the other locations of this chain nearly as much as Mahwah).
I’ve tried many different things off their menu, all delicious, but my staple is the birria tacos (to DIE for). As far as dessert goes, I recommend their tres leches cake.
I usually order for delivery, but my partner and I did decide to eat at the restaurant a few months back; we both ordered palomas and let it be known their drinks are just as delicious as their food!

Unbelievable restaurant with the cleanest and most corona friendly indoor AND outdoor (year round) dining options. Management could not be friendlier. Hector knows our usual orders and always has great suggestions or offers to create something off menu with all our favorite ingredients. We could not recommend this place more highly, and have been coming at LEAST every other week for months now!

If ever the phrase: “Don’t judge by its cover” then this a prime example of it. Dropped off a parcel at the UPS store nearby and saw this place. Honestly scuffed a bit and went about my day. Well in the evening time as hunger took root, I decided to try it out. Result: Phenomenal food and amazing staff.
I ordered a few things to try out but the main things I tried were: 1 asada steak taco and an order of chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Asada steak taco was very good, needed the lime and green salsa to really boost the flavor. How were the enchiladas? Very soft, could cut with just a fork and absolutely full of flavor. What caught me off guard were the beans (frijoles) they absolutely tasted like I was visiting my abuleita’s ranch. Plenty of seating but the odd seating layout is only reason I dinged them for atmosphere. But overall food was cooked well, seasoned perfectly, and when I had plenty of food left over, the staff went out of their way to make sure I had a to-go setup including plate, extra forks, and napkins. Very warm and kind staff. While my stay in the area is short, I do plan to visit again. Highly encourage you to take a bite.

1st time here .I had Tacos they were very good .Prices were very good .Nice clean place will definitely go back.10/24/2024 Went here tonight with my guy we loved the food .I had wanted tamales and got them tonight they were so good .We each got tacos I got the tacos from the kids menu because I like hard shell tacos most like the way I make them. He got the regular tacos .He also got the steak La Aztca.he absolutely loved it .He said best Mexican food around here.We definitely will be back He was so full he took dessert home Flan.I highly recommended this place .Not expensive. Thanks to the staff who were very friendly. Place was very clean too.

August 26, 2020 grand opening of this great restaurant, everyone there is very polite, friendly and courteous!!! Even though it’s just for takeout only at the moment, their food is the best in the Mahwah-Suffern area…. and very delicious. Anything in their menu is rich in flavor, made fresh and not too greasy like in other places. My favorites, Steak Burritos and Pork Huaraches…! The main reason it’s because of their hand made tortillas…! Totally recommended…!
