Favorite place ever, sushi is incredible and I love their miso soup, everything is incredibly reasonably priced and they even have free soft serve!! Like this place should have a full five stars on everything. Literally perfect.

It’s mid grade quality sushi (nothing wrong; there’s a market for it). For the price and portion, I really enjoy it. I always get the chirashi bowl. I sometimes ask for only salmon or half salmon and tuna, and they don’t charge extra. The chicken karage is pretty good too. First beer or soda or ramune (Japanese flavored soft drink) is free which is awesome.

I ordered two boxes of baked rolls at this restaurant, intending to take them away. However, seeing that the restaurant wasn’t busy, I opted to dine in.

01. Their server told the chef that the customer had switched to dine-in. Then the chef started swearing, which I could hear even sitting outside.

02. When the food finally arrived, it was in a takeout bag, and it was cold! It looked like it had been sitting there for a long time. I told the server, and they had to reheat it, and I can only say it was absolutely awful!

I’ve been to many Japanese restaurants, but this is the most disgusting one! The chef and staff were constantly shouting and yelling, showing absolutely no manners.
And even though I had opted for dine-in, they deliberately packed it up for me because I paid first and my phone showed it as takeout. Even after the server told him I had switched to dine-in, he still rudely packed it up and left it there until it got cold before giving it to me. It was disgusting.

This kind of person should be fired. And I should never go to a restaurant like this again.

Wow. Super cheap yet very good, free drink, wide selection from menu? What’s not to like! The inside could use some sprucing up, but the food is good. I love the 49er roll. Tempura and karaage is great. As I said, nice free ramune marble soda. Have to try it!

This place is just great. Very fresh, some of the best O Toro we’ve had. First round of drinks and soft serve on the house by the way (nice touch). Looks like this will be our go to sushi spot in palo alto! 🙂

Great sushi place! The fish was very fresh and every dish was well prepared. Good sized servings too. There was a bit of a wait on Friday night string 7pm but no more than 20 minutes as the service is quite and the tables turn over pretty quickly. Will definitely come back.

It was very interesting how they served us water in water bottles, perhaps there’s a plumbing issue? Also, out of all the dishes we had, the salad was the only one in a plastic container, which is utterly confusing. Besides that, MJ Sushi is pretty decent as a go-to sushi spot for the neighborhood. It’s great quality and is well priced for the area. The sushi rolls were good but not the best that I have had. Their quality of fish is not as high as other places I have been, but it was still very good. I think there is too much competition in the area for me to choose this restaurant consistently if I didn’t live here. Their salmon teriyaki, though, was the best dish out of all the ones I ordered. The fish was still soft and smooth. At the end of your meal, you get to have self-served soft serve icecream. They ran out of vanilla at the end of the night but I had the last bit. It was pretty decent run of the mill buffet style soft serve. Not complaining because it was free.

All the rolls were really good but tbh it’s a pretty standard sushi place. Appetizers were good but kind of pricey for the quantity

MJ Sushi in Palo Alto completely exceeded expectations. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated with creative twists that made each bite memorable. You could literally taste the clean, natural ocean in the fish—paired with unique flavor combinations that made the experience stand out.

We started with the Albacore Nigiri, which was simple and elegant, showcasing smooth, clean filet cuts. The Yellowtail Jalapeño was interesting in presentation—it appeared to have skin-on cuts but tasted completely normal and fresh, adding a unique touch.

The rolls were the true stars. The Fiesta Roll delivered a satisfying crunch from the tempura and a perfect blend of ingredients that packed a flavorful punch. The Fireworks Roll was rich, spicy, and well-balanced. But the standout was the Volcano Roll—a baked masterpiece topped with sweet honey walnut for a surprising and delicious finish.

We also ordered two bottles of hot sake, which were solid. The miso soup was savory and comforting, exactly what you’d want to start with. Only downside: the water cups had lemons with visible debris floating around, so we skipped those.

Despite being almost full, the restaurant moved quickly, and service was friendly and professional. You barely had to wait before dishes started arriving. MJ Sushi is absolutely worth a visit—fresh, fast, and full of flavor.

This place has a perfect five star rating with 50ish reviews so I was a bit skeptical but excited to try. It definitely met my high expectations. They have a good-sized selection of rolls, everything was fresh and tasty and beautifully presented, and it was reasonably priced for sushi. They’re also open late which is so so rare in bay area. The inside is nice and spacious, generally nice vibes. I’ll definitely be back!
