We started with the ttuk kko chi which were rice cakes covered in a gochujang sauce. The cakes were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The sauce it was in was amazing, balancing the heat from the gochujang with some sweetness. Next, we got the Korean fried chicken (they were out of KFC wings). I remember the sauce being a little more red last time, but it was still good. Super crispy exterior and no excess batter so we just tasted the juicy chicken. The two entrees we got were the spicy chicken and jaeyuk. The spicy chicken was flavorful and tender. Along with the chicken, the veggies were stir fried nicely and coated in the broth. The jaeyuk was a little better with the pork having a great marinade and also being super tender. On top of the food we ordered, we were given a salad, soup, and rice which were all nice accompaniments.
This was the meal I was looking forward to the most in my return and it did not disappoint. The only and I mean only thing to change is having bigger napkins on the table. Everything else is great and most importantly all the food is delicious.
Update- we have done JUST that. We came back about 2 years later and had been told they had one of the BEST Korean Fried Chickens. They were correct. OMG were these great, super crispy chicken thighs (a nice fatty and juicy piece of meat), with a very rich and thick sauce that was both sweet and earthy in all the best ways. But I am sorry we keep meeting this way (just for appetizers). I vow to come back here next time and try a proper entrée!
The Korean barbecue(KBBQ) was such a small portion(3rd pic) for over 20 bucks. The meat was totally unseasoned and provided with a tiny amount of sauce that wouldn’t cover half the meat. They couldn’t have pour the sauce before delivery?
The kimchi and tofu soup was underwhelming. Barely any kimchi. The pork was so overcooked and dried out. It was very watery and just bland besides the spice level.
The fried squid legs were the worst. It was so overcooked that it was like chewing cartilage.
Will not return. I strongly prefer Mama’s Korean.
