First time eating here, hands down the worst Chinese food I have ever tasted in my life. Waited forever for the food only for it to be burnt, cold and stale. The carrots were shriveled and dry like beef jerky, the sweet and sour chicken tasted like it had been sitting out all day and I’ve seen dog vomit that looked more appetizing than this Kung Pao chicken. Highly recommend not eating there if you want something that tastes good and is fresh.

I showed up 20 minutes before they were going to close and the lady at the front was so sweet and helpful. Considering they were about to close, she didn’t seemed bothered or tried rushing us out. Instead she was very polite. They made our food quick and tasty. It was $40 for 2 meals with an appetizer. Would recommend and come here again!

This was my first visit to Hunan Chef and I was very pleased with the results. Sadly, there is no in-restaurant dining and all orders are “take away” or delivery. I stopped in for a late lunch and took it home. It only took about a 10 minute wait. They do an impressive amount of to go orders that I noted during my short wait. I really enjoyed the Sesame chicken with broccoli, an eggroll, fried rice and a cup of hot and sour soup. Everything was freshly made and still warm and very tasty when I got home. Looking forward to a return visit soon – – even if it’s only “to go”! They have a fairly extensive lunch and dinner menu and I look forward to trying many different items!

Ordered from UberEats on Wednesday since the regular place we order from was extremely busy and wasn’t accepting new orders. At first glance everything seemed good until we got down to eating. Ordered the chicken lo-mein and found shrimp mixed in with it; which is a big deal to my father since he’s allergic (thank God he didn’t eat it) and the second was finding a piece of wire in it. Didn’t risk eating any of the other food. Had to throw away almost $100 worth of food! Don’t order from here if you care about what you’re eating.

I can tell you that this place has a few things going for it. First off, the food is good. Basic Oriental dishes, nothing fancy but it is fresh and is made to order. For the price, this kind of meal is a bargain. Get this, I went back in there after a prolonged absence due to the floods back in July, to find the prices had been changed. I was so pleased to see one thing that I liked had not been raised in price, but actually lowered. One loses a lot of things in a flood. Things you wouldn’t have planned on replacing for years, if ever. Sticker shock is omnipotent at first, and if you have the money, I am told one can become desensitized, just numb to the inflated prices. Reluctant acceptance is the mandate of the times, and if I wasn’t so busy with home repair, a second job would take my mind off today’s prices. So to see that at least one place was reversing the momentum of my road to ramen noodles twice a day, and was a place I already liked and has great take out, well, I was elated.
I did say take out. I said that because Hunan Chef is that kind of place. There are a couple tables, with maybe twice that many chairs, but I have bought dozens of dinners there and never have seen anyone actually consuming food inside the restaurant. In the parking lot, in the cars or trucks out there, but never inside. That could be because I never go there at lunch.
So now I can tell you about the number one best thing about the place, and I almost don’t want to let out the secret, but, here it comes. They are open till midnight 7 days a week. Yes, believe it or not, right here in Cedar Park, Texas, a food desert post 9 pm. Really decent food, cooked to order, and open after 9 pm, that is not a franchise, or a chain, and you can go inside, you don’t talk to a machine, there is no drive up window involved. One can eat a decent meal that isn’t fried, or was frozen a few hours ago, or when you walked in the door. I ordered a burrito at Taco Bell last week at midnight and it was handed out the window to me cold. Really, not even warm. And the tortilla was stiff and broken. A flour tortilla, brokn, just like a fried corn one would be if dropped. Which is what I did with that burrito. I didn’t go back and complain though, I was to tired. So I will share that with y’all here in lieu of that pleasure denied. No more. Ever. (The location of said Taco Bell was the one on 183, just south of Whitestone, if you are reading and in management, or a stockholder). Not to be confused with the easy to find Hunan Chef back in the far left hand corner (if you are facing north) of the strip center on the northwest corner of Park and 183, or Bell Blvd, if you ever call 183 Bell. I don’t know anybody that does so.
So for a fair selection of multiple kinds of Asian cooking, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese,..that is delicious and priced to where one could go often, especially if you are single, when it is cheaper to eat out than cook at home sometimes, and you are too busy or don’t want to or like to eat before 9, try Hunan Chef. Plenty of close parking. Get it on the way home, get out of there for $10 – $12 or tops $15, even when the time is close to midnight, well, in the food no man’s land, that is lower Willco after 9 pm, be glad you read this, and let’s keep it to ourselves. No need to have to wait in line. I guess I could call in…. Everyone else does.
OK, quickly, the deals. 2 meals at a fixed price are a selection of chicken or vegetarian dishes, pick 2 simaler or different, and they will come with soup and egg roll for $21 in total. All day specials are $8 – $10, and come with rice. Specialty dishes may break you at $12 – $14, but hey, you will probably have some left over. Handicap parking 8 feet from the door. And, don’t bring a date, take them to your place where you can enjoy a good late night meal, just like you can in the big city.

If I could give them zero stars I would. I ordered from Uber Eats and they got the order wrong. I put in a complaint with Uber Eats, got 2bucks back. I called this store, the girl told me a manager would call me back. An hour later, still no call so I called back. They didn’t answer. I called from a different number, the same person answered on the first ring. I told her I never got a call back. She told me she was transferring me to the manager and I got hung up on. Now they won’t answer at all. Disputing this charge tomorrow. IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY AND WANT GOOD FOOD QUALITY, RECONSIDER YOUR OPTIONS.
