Whenever I’m in Niles, I usually visit Pita Inn, but this time I tried Magic Pepper based on a friend’s recommendation.

The ambience and location are beautiful, but the food didn’t match the expectations. The Mixed Grill Platter ($22.99) had small portions, no bread, and didn’t feel worth the price. The Sharjah Shake ($9.99) tasted like a basic banana shake, though the staff kindly offered a complimentary mango lassi. The Magic Special Falooda ($12.99) was also below expectations.

Overall: Great atmosphere, but not good value for money. Food quality needs improvement.

Final Thoughts

A restaurant can’t succeed on ambience alone — good food and value for money matter just as much. While the service gesture was appreciated, the overall dining experience did not justify the pricing.

I’m sure the team has potential to do better, but based on this visit, I wouldn’t return.

An absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish.

The South Indian food was authentic and delicious—served traditionally on a banana leaf with incredible attention to detail. Every dish felt fresh, flavorful, and comforting.

What truly set this place apart was the customer service. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. They surprised me with a beautiful birthday celebration, which made the entire experience so special and personal.

This is not just a restaurant—it’s a place that makes you feel valued. Highly recommend.

The dosa was honestly good crispy and actually worth coming back for. No complaints there at all.

Now… the schezwan noodles I dont know if the seasoning clocked out early but surprisingly tasteless like literally no spice no salt no schezwan sauce no seasoning.
We ordered the falooda and disappointing It looked promising but the taste was very bad.

The Chicken Lolipop on the menu showed the classic lollipop… what came out was 4 jumbo sized drumstick. Huge
Good service, good dosa but the rest of the food definitely needs improvement.
The menu felt like it had 1000 items. They’d do so much better if they just focused on a few things and perfected them instead of spreading themselves thin. The prices are high, but the quality doesn’t match

Tried this new Indian restaurant in the Chicago suburbs and the food was honestly really good. The baby corn was packed with flavor, the idli and dosa were solid, and the sambhar with all the different chutneys was a favorite. The mini falooda was too much for me but my family enjoyed it.

Service was very slow, but the space itself is really pretty and the food was worth the wait. Overall a good experience, just something to keep in mind if you are in a rush.

Would still recommend trying it.

I would have never expected to find South Indian food this good in the northwest suburbs. Magic Pepper has been opened for only 2 months but the food they serve up easily ranks among the best I’ve had anywhere in the Chicagoland area. Everything was excellent and I have nothing but praise here.

The mysore dosa was phenomenal: beautifully golden without being greasy, a good balance between crisp and soft bits, and delectably toasty. The mysore paste added such a satisfying garlicky heat. The accompaniments were just as good: rich, comforting sambar and flavorful chutneys. The Andhra chicken curry was bold and incredibly flavorful with tender chicken in a savory, aromatic gravy. The garlic naan was crisp, buttery, and properly garlicky. The mango lassi was also top-tier.

Their menu has plenty of lesser-seen regional dishes that caught my eye. I fear I’ll be back often.

It’s a lovely space, we were able to get a spot immediately. We got chicken, curry, malabar paratha and naan. They also have fresh orange juice, which is great. The portions are generous and food tasty, the service friendly and courteous, will definitely be returning! They also seem to have fun cocktails.

Great place for Kerala food! Everything we tried was tasty and full of authentic flavors. The spices were just right, and the food felt fresh and homemade. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. Definitely a good spot if you’re craving Kerala-style Indian food. Would come back again!

I recently visited Magic Pepper. Overall, we enjoyed the food, but there were a few things that could be improved.

The sambar was quite thick in consistency. We ordered the 70mm dosa, which was great for sharing — easily enough for three people. The baby corn came with a sauce that was just okay. We also tried the “street-style noodles” but I personally didn’t enjoy them. They contained frozen peas and carrots, and no fresh vegetables, which affected the flavor and texture.

Additionally, the service was quite slow, which made the experience less enjoyable.

We went first time to magic pepper last week and ordered Andhra chicken and roti. It was superrrr yumm and the ambience is amazing. The food was not at all oily and the taste was beyond expectations. We even got complimentary dessert which was again a awesome surprise and gesture.

We again went yesterday to have dinner, this time with friends and ordered chettinad chicken curry, naan roti and uttapam. First time I had such a crispy and flavoured uttapam in Chicago. Also, I ordered a soup, it was delicious too and because of winter it became cold after a while. I requested to get it reheated and the staff was happy to do that.

I would definitely recommend to give this place a try. Also, they do give you warm water in winter .

Visited today Jan 10 2026. Order Dosa idly vada combo. Food was served in reasonable time. Order came with four types of chutney and sambar. Idly was very small (2 bites). Vada was not fresh it was preheated in microwave and was not crispy as it should be. Sambar – look like it was made from premade powder. Dosa was just okay. For a food I would give 2-1/2 star. Staff were very attentive. 5(*) for the staff. Although it is reasonably priced, but not worth the money. While I was sitting there, couple of kids were running around in restaurants everywhere and making too much noise. I would think twice before visiting here.
