So, before I even opened the bag, I could smell the fishy odor coming from the catfish which immediately turned me off to the food, but when I opened the container, I was baffled? confused? at what I saw. The catfish resembled a chicken cutlet? Veal? The pieces were small and red. In short, they looked nothing like the pictures provided on the restaurant website but more so, they looked nothing like a piece of catfish I’ve ever eaten. Fried catfish is a very straightforward meal to make, my meal resembled nothing I’ve ever seen. To be honest, the fish tasted and resembled bad tilapia, but I can’t confirm so let’s just assume it was catfish.
I took a bite and winced, at how nasty the fish was. It is certainly not of good quality, and also likely is a bit spoiled. It was lightly fried? Burnt? I don’t know what I ate, but I had a visceral reaction to the taste and texture, so I said, okay, let me try the sides. I took a bite of the salt potatoes and nearly chipped a tooth. The potatoes were not cooked through so they were still raw/hard, there goes that side!
Next was the mac salad. It was also a bit dry. Not terrible, but certainly not creamy and good.
The cornbread. A classic…was sadly ruined by the fishy order that took over the entire container the takeout was in.
Lastly, aside from this specific order, I just wanted to point out how ‘exclusive’ this restaurant is. Over the past year I’ve tried to get food several times and have only been successful twice because every other time they’re closed with little to no notice.
That should’ve been a sign.
Advice to MGMT/Chefs: Consistency breeds quality. Currently there is none in the hours, food, or service.
I’ve also added photos of what the ‘fried catfish’ is advertised as on their site versus what I got.
I got the spare ribs plate. Probably the Best BBQ deal I have ever gotten and it totally hit the spot and the BBQ craving I’ve been having for a couple of months. It was hard to decide what sides to get but I settled on the onion rings and fried okra. Both were very good and along with the cornbread all three were tasty as leftovers. Which is credit to how well they were made because such things are often not good as left overs or after being in a fridge. (Of course the ribs were good as left overs). And the okra came with what I describe as some kind of sour cream & Dorito ranch like dip that was quite good)
My friend who doesn’t eat meat got the Mac and cheese and vegetarian baked beans and shared my side. And he enjoyed the food and experience as well. …I tasted his Mac and cheese and it was very homemade yummy tasting to me.
We sadly were too full for the banana pudding and didn’t want to get food coma while driving. But I hope to come back again soon to try it and more of the menu.
Great menu. Plenty to choose from but not be overwhelmed. Just wished they had mashed potatoes :).
And I love the motto that bbq might not end world hate but it can at least bring people to the table 🙂
Also really love the paper towel set up at each table (so smart & charmingly done) and nice how there’s three big sauce bottles at each table.
Great customer service too. Very friendly, cheerful and helpful. And super clean establishment. .A place you can take your mom, grandma and aunt to :).
I got the brisket and the burnt ends which were fantastic. Tender meet, smokey but not overpowering and bursting with rich BBQ flavor. For sides I had baked beans and mac n cheese which were both outstanding. But here is what caught me off guard.
The shrimp salad is a top 5 item in Binghamton NY. I’m not talking just BBQ menu items, I’m talking a top five menu item against every menu in Binghamton. I couldn’t believe how good it was when I took my first bite. Stop in, try it, and tell me I’m right.
After waiting for so long and getting excited to try your food, it was delicious, but it would have been nice if I got what I actually ordered. Pulled pork, baked beans and macaroni salad but instead got coleslaw with it. I even confirmed twice with the lady over the phone and the lady at the cash register. I understand mistakes happen just a little bummed out as I was very excited to try your food.
