Taco Del Mar in Northgate is honestly one of my favorite little spots to grab something quick and comforting. There aren’t many Taco Del Mar locations left anymore, so I really appreciate having this one close by. The food isn’t authentic Mexican, but it has its own delicious, comforting, soul-food style that I genuinely love. Their bowls and burritos always come out tasty and satisfying.
The service is okay — nothing over the top — but the staff are friendly and welcoming, which makes every visit feel easy. The place is also very clean, which I always notice and appreciate.
Overall, it’s a solid spot with good vibes and great food. I keep coming back for a reason!

The food was good. I had a small chicken burito. It could have had more generous portions. My date had a beef burrito bowl. They were out of salsa verde( green more mild sauce)

Portions were small for my nachos, I used come into this place and would be normal of portion for my meat. The female worker could be manager who runs the store there, did tiny scoop of meat for my nachos and I ask kindly, she suggested it would be charge for normal amount of meat. Most definitely not worth the $12.90, I could’ve went somewhere else or cooked it myself. This place isn’t really worth it, I would recommend somewhere else.

Every single time I go here I say “And it’s Done” when it’s done. And when I’m not looking paying at the counter dude puts the craziest stuff in my burrito. Like what on earth, I get it to go and when I realize I’m already long gone. It has to be deliberate because there is no possible way it could be interpreted differently.

Went into the men’s restroom to wash my hands after one of the male employees had just used it and found that the soap dispenser was completely empty. The soap dispenser had a sign on it that stated employees must wash their hands. I wonder how the all male staff was washing their hands that day with no soap?
Cleanliness and food safety should be top priority in any restaurant.

The other locations keep the fish in the freezer and then just warm it up when it’s time to serve, but this location, they keep it out and they never have fish

Honestly didn’t know this chain was still around but I pass by it everyday and it’s always dead. Thought I’d give it a shot.
In retrospect, it’s concerning that a place that remains dead during the middle of lunch also has a near failing health score. I’m more lenient on places with “Okay” ratings that are swamped with customers, but they clearly have time to keep things in better shape. Also had me hoping the braised chicken wasn’t chilling for too long of a time.
I put a lot of weight into the queso at these burrito bar type places. The queso at Taco Del Mar is indistinguishable from the push button Chip’N’Cheese station at a mini mart. It’s yellow colored nothing. Totally disappointing.
The bathroom was out of service, but they did have a pump station of hand sanitizer, so better than nothing?
The interior is well worn, so people must have come here at some point, I guess.
The burrito again, while a solid size, is pretty indistinguishable from a heat lamp prepackaged burrito at a mini mart.
If you’re looking for a burrito-bar lunch, I’d recommend one of the other chains you’d normally consider. Or go to a mini mart and get about the same quality for less. This chain was forgotten for apparently good reason.
