I visited Onkei recently for lunch and was very pleased with my meal. I had the chicken gyudon and it was very tasty. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the portion was generous. It came with a side of miso soup. In addition, the service was quick and I received my order promptly.

I was even lucky enough to meet the owner that day, who happened to be there during my visit. He was very nice and friendly.

I highly recommend Onkei for a delicious and quick Japanese meal.

Just had the BEST no pretense miso ramen I’ve had in years. The broth is rich, rustic, and deeply miso-forward. The pork is chunky and tender. The greens are unfussy and perfect. One sip and I was basically transported back to 1980s provincial Japan.

Fast, friendly service and true ramen-shop energy. For $15, I got nostalgia, comfort, and actual joy in a bowl.

I’ll be back.

We both got the chicken katsu bento box and it was delicious! The portions are very generous. We came in the evening and everything was great. We probably wouldn’t recommend the ramen, but the bento boxes are a great deal.

Just a great place. I’ve no idea where they get their fish from, but their product is pretty great. The line, when there’s one, moves quite quickly and your food doesn’t take much to be ready. I’m particularly fond of their tuna tartar and fatty salmon nigiri. One of the managers, Will, is also a supper helpful guy and makes the service experience even nicer. If you’re around the neighborhood and want a quick, healthy and (especially) tasty meal, don’t doubt it.

It was a great price for sushi especially in DC. The portions were a bit small but you can’t beat the prices, so I would say it’s worth it. It did taste very good! I loved the sushi itself. Also service was very fast and the workers are nice! Definitely recommend trying it!

Late lunch at the food hall close to GWU and fancied a stall featuring Japanese fare. Hun kering for pork Katsudon, ordered one but instead was served Tonkatsu. Latter was okay with the crispy panko encrusted pork cutlet with generous portion of fluffy steamed rice and some tonkatsu sauce. However, still disappointed at not being served katsudon which is tonkatsu + a topping of sweetish salty and eggy sauce as traditionally prepared in Japan.

The food was amazing and inexpensive, the service was the best, extra plate of chicken for free (not guaranteed but has good service). And they are genuinely nice people and like working here.

The food was great, the service was spectacular! I requested the salmon donburi as torched salmon and the chef did just that for me! He was really nice and patient to grill each salmon individually and it tasted amazing. Thank you!

Went to Onkei recently and Will was incredibly diligent about ensuring that my meal was gluten free! I really appreciated his help and the sushi was great! If you have a dietary restriction, ask for Will!

I ordered salmon teriyaki bento box, salmon is burnt outside, dry/overcooked inside, gyozos are cold. Portion size is ok. This is my second try here, and will be the last.
