I visited here on a weekday evening and was blown away. The atmosphere was calm and intimate, but the food and service were truly world-class.
Every course was a hit—from the fresh, warm bread to the perfectly executed mains and decadent desserts. Their wine list is also seriously impressive and worth a look!
What really made the night was the service. The staff is incredibly warm and professional; they truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a top-tier meal. Don’t miss out!
to make a reservation we had to put a hold for the pre fixe through open table, which would lead you to assume that’s what the deal is for dinner.
it was disappointing from the get go as we were given just a wine list, and nothing else, and when I tried to ask if the regular bar menu was also available, there seemed to be a push to choose from the wine list.
the portions were very small and some dishes tasted prepared, my salad tasted like it was sitting on the plate or at least premixed for quite a while before, and our mains were lukewarm. the portions were quite small for 135$, nor did they have the taste factor of a chefs tasting portion.
when i get up to use the restroom, i realized that if you just walk in for the evening, you could order off the regular menu both food and bar as no one else was eating the set menu.
walking out of there spending 480$ for 2 people was much less festive than ordering à la carte with better food and beverage options for less than that.
Service really stands out. Our server, Vince, was fantastic — genuinely friendly, attentive, and professional. He elevated the whole experience without ever being intrusive.
I ordered the tuna, which was beautifully prepared and full of fresh, clean flavor. Their cocktails are also a highlight — balanced, creative, and very well made. My husband had the burger and enjoyed it a lot. We both left very happy with our meals.
While some people come here for business meetings or hotel stays, it also works perfectly for a relaxed lunch or a pre-theatre dinner. Comfortable atmosphere, great service, good food, and excellent cocktails — we’ll definitely be back.
HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS – $54
Carrot Ginger Purée, Chanterelle Mushrooms, Lemon Foam, Carrot Crisp
The scallops were about the size of a quarter, with the exception of one, and not many of them for a main course meal. They were overcooked – tough and chewy. The meal was cold. The greens were overcooked soggy baby bok choy. As you can see in the photo, the mushrooms are NOT chanterelles. If you are out of chanterelles, then say so. The puree and foam were unmentionable. The presentation was sloppy and unappealing.
If our waiter had come to check on us or been visible, I would have returned the meal. He appeared next with our check. And we were off to the show.
This was a very disappointing experience.
In addition, we arrived a bit early and were told that there were other reservations ahead of us and that we could wait in the bar and someone would notify us. Our reservation time came and went, no one came and we had to track someone down to be seated.
We made a reservation, but we’re seated at the back by the kitchen door (very noisy and annoying). As reference, no one was seated at any number of tables that would have been preferable for the time we arrived and for the entire time we were there.
The food was mid-to-poor compared to what we have had at the grill before. No flavor, presentation was not appetizing and my spouses salmon was cool.
As there are so many great alternatives in the downtown area, we expected far better from The Grant Grill. We were extremely disappointed.
Some reviewers may exaggerate, I am not. The wait staff, aside de from the front of house, was great.
Despite the beautiful surroundings and impeccable service, the food, unfortunately, did not live up to the same high standard. My friends all opted for the steak special, but the excitement quickly fizzled when the knives struggled to make their way through the tough cut. While the flavor wasn’t unpleasant, it failed to stand out in a way you’d expect from a signature dish.
As for my meal, I went with the lobster gnocchi, hoping for something indulgent and flavorful. What arrived was a dish that felt more like a missed opportunity. While it wasn’t terrible by any means, it was far from the rich, decadent experience I had anticipated. The lobster was fresh, but the overall composition lacked the punch and depth needed to elevate it beyond just “okay.” The warm herb bread served in the beginning was probably my favorite part of the meal.
In the end, the Grant Grill nails its ambience but falls short in delivering a memorable dining experience. With a setting so ideal, the food has the potential to match, but as of now, it seems to be playing catch-up.
We were somewhat surprised with the limited items that were available.
Overall, the food was tasty. The only complaint I had was with the waiter. Had to get his attention a couple of times regarding a couple of items by waving him to our table.
Have already recommended the restaurant to friends.
