Update 12/3/25. Regretfully i have to downgrade Umalu from 4 to 3 … mainly because a) the food was lukewarm, and b) I had to order a ($14.00!) shot of white Malibu Rum to make the ($21.00) Pina Colado taste right. I would have given a ‘2’ on food except for the fact that the hamburger was, per my wife, one of the best she ever had (even though it was not hot — the cheese was not melted!).
Onion rings were excellent. Prefer them to french fries.

The waitress, Michelle, was a joy, the fish and chips (with Ono) were superb. Well, the fish was, the chips were good but ordinary. The fru-fru drinks (blended Pina Colada, blended “Pele Lava Flow”) were strong and good. The pineapple upside down cake was good, but not special, and was not cooked “upside down” as it is supposed to be done … and the odd choice of pairing it with a non-descript sweet potato ice cream diminished it. Vanilla would have helped a lot.
Highly recommended except for the pineapple upside down cake.

This is one of the best bars on Maui! The food and drinks are delicious, and the service is top tier. They really took their time to craft an excellent lunch and dinner menu. The atmosphere is welcoming, hospitable, and worthy of great reviews. I would highly recommend checking them out. They are the best at what they do!

Great food and service! Try the fish and chips!!! Best we’ve had (and we’ve tried Oregon’s best). Flaky delicious white fish is front and center – fish to batter ratio is outstanding (lots more fish!) and not over fried. Yummy fries! Won’t regret it!

Great outdoor pool location if you’re after a casual meal at the bar with the sunset, music and live sport going. I went twice and had the poke both times, two different ways. My friend had the burger and said it was great. The staff here are welcoming and friendly as well.

Basic food, basic drinks, and very overpriced. If the service was good, those things could be overlooked. The bartenders here get STRESSSSSED out – and they are middle-aged white men. You ask them for your check, or a beer and they go into panic mode. Are they new? Is it their first time working a service job? Idk. It ruined the vibe, but unfortunately, they have a monopoly on the pool area. I would recommend bringing in food from an outside vendor (lots to eat at around that area) and maybe bring your own drinks as well. The waiters that went out to the pool area were very very kind – but hard to come by. The bartenders though — yikes.

Food is good. Highly recommend salad and add protein. Decent price since it’s in the Hyatt hotel and open late. Portion is regular, not too much not too little. Drinks are a little bit more but the bartenders can’t be more friendly. Have fun there and talk to them and ask for their new trials or testings, you would be surprised.

The ambience was great. The service was okay. But on food side we ordered the burger which was really good including the fries but the quantity was less for the price. We also ordered vegetarian pasta which was very bland. Mai tai was awesome !!

Beautiful atmosphere next to the beach, the bar staff is great. The food is good although I the fish and chips was heavily battered. The pretzels are a foot long and very good. Fish tacos were fresh and the ahi salad was fresh. There is a Hawaiian ice right next to Umalu. Staff was always quick to help and we enjoyed it very much.

Here are just a couple photos of Umalu. It’s part of the Hyatt regency restaurants and I have to say their food is good not great. The convenience factor is why I gave it four stars and not three. I would have given it more stars if the food was worth driving to, But if you’re not staying in this hotel, I’m not sure it’s worth coming to visit. I hope this makes sense. If you are staying at this hotel you have to remember this is mediocre at best. One thing to note, the view here is shaded and definitely good for people watching and eating a quick bite to get out of the sun
