Phenomenal preparation, delightfully unpretentious atmosphere. Great wine selection, great service. We typically go into the city for post-Thanksgiving meals but took a chance on this restaurant. We will certainly be back – and the saffron plantain avocado appetizer is one of the most flavorful and innovative dishes I have ever had.

This place was amazing from beginning to end. The staff provided excellent service, and the menu had a great mix of unique and exciting choices. We sampled dishes from both the daily specials and the regular menu, and every item was delicious, filling, and looked stunning. It is an ideal spot for a special celebration or a romantic night out, and I will definitely be returning.

We dined on a Friday night. You definitely should make reservations as the restaurant is in a small/cozy building. They have a separate vegetarian menu for those interested. Our appetizers were delicious..forgot to take pictures of them. Ahi and the fried pickles. Dinner was yummy. I had the lobster and scallops special. Others had the pork belly and the 3 meat platter. There may only be one chef..but he does an outstanding job. Enjoy a leisurely meal at this charming restaurant. I would have done 5 stars for atmosphere but our table was by an air conditioning vent so it went on and off during the meal. Needed a sweater.

I ordered the Mixed grill with bison, elk and wild boar and my partner ordered the stuffed poblano with lobster and scallops and I have to say that presentation is absolutely beautiful. The meat was cooked to perfection and the blueberry merlot wine reduction was a great pair with my meat. I love the variety and creative menu. It was a unique experience.

The food was amazing and to find a restaurant like this in Algonquin, I mean wow!

The food has a ton of flavors that will make you feel like you’re at a Michelin 3 Star restaurant.

Chef takes his time and you can tell how much he cares. Take your best girl, wife or significant other and have an unbelievable meal.

Birthday celebration here turned out amazing. The service was warm and attentive, and every dish was full of flavor. The creative drinks really stood out, and the filet with tamarind glaze was absolutely delicious. Such a standout spot in the suburbs, definitely coming back again.

Black Bear Bistro has that rare charm where every dish feels like it was made with you in mind. There is a welcoming energy in the air, almost like you have stepped into a little club of food lovers who have discovered something special. The chef and owners are incredibly warm and if you visit often, you might even get a surprise dish that exists only in Chef Santi’s imagination.

The printed menu already offers so much to explore. From unique game options to fresh local produce, the range is impressive and the flavors are unforgettable. Everything tastes bright and fresh, and it is clear how much care goes into each plate. And the fries deserve their own praise. Potato, sweet potato, coco malanga, you name it, each one is amazing.

Walk past the front dining area and the kitchen and you will find a second room that feels like a hidden corner reserved for those in the know. That tiny bit of mystery only adds to the fun and somehow makes the food feel even more enjoyable.

A few last tips. If you enjoy heat, you will be very happy here. If dessert catches your eye, you should order it, especially the key lime. If sweets are not your thing, try not to look at the owners because their warm smiles might convince you otherwise.

From start to finish a wonderful experience. We ordered from the specials menu for our appetizer. We had a lobster with a corn cake and a lemonciello sauce. It was phenomenal . The combo of it all was well thought out . Every sauce we had with our meals was spot on with amazing flavor. I had the Elk Bison and Kangaroo medallions. All were amazing but my favorite was the Bison. It was seasoned perfectly. The sauce was so good . It also came with a garlic battered fried cauliflower. That was the best cauliflower I’ve had. My wife had a Poblano pepper stuffed with crab shrimp and goat cheese. She truly enjoyed that. She said the sauce was so good. Oh and we shared the soup if the day . So good. It was a muscle scallop shrimp chowder

Our drinks were awesome as well. Margaritas and mojito. Very fresh and not overpowered with sugary mix. All fresh.

No room for desert but we will definitely be back.

Our waitress was beyond friendly and attentive. Impeccable place. Owner came over and spoke to us twice. We told her to relay to her husband the chef that we have a new favorite place . He is truly amazing at what he does !! Would’ve gave it 10 stars if possible
