The amount of different people contributing to our experience and touching the table throughout our hour and a half dining experience was note worthy. They really showed a lot of care and thoughtfulness in the dining experience.
We tried almost all of the cocktails and they were all extremely well done – my favorites being the Mira Flores and their rendition of an Irish coffee (extra cream ). The X gon give it to ya cocktail was really fun and intricate! Didn’t get to dive too much into their wine selection which looks great, but I did try a Syrah that was wonderful.
Lived up to the hype and beyond for having a multiple week waitlist!
Look forward to coming back for an 2nd round – and to trying the caviar service!
Chefs kiss all around
The small bites are actually quite generous in portion size. I really liked the beef tartare. Rosette cookie was surprising. Cocktail was delicious, though pricey.
For entrees we tried the lamb roulette and the black cod. Both were good but I think if I came back I’d rather try more of the appetizers and do it tapas style, for more variety.
Potatoes (spuds) are tasty and definitely fill you up. May be a bit too much for 2 people.
Appreciated the free dessert bite at the end! We were too full to order any dessert.
Their non-alcoholic cocktails are really nice too.
Their shareable portion of the menu is not super shareable as they tended to be very small. If you want something to fill you up, definitely go with the chicken schnitzel, potato salad, or the crumpet.
We spent $120 per person before taxes/tip but you can easily get by with just spending $50-60 per person. We just wanted to try as much as we could fit in our stomach.
I think they usually book 2 hours per table. We tried to order more when we realized we still had room but were told our time was almost up. Thankfully the kitchen/waitress were able to get out some more dishes plus the baked Alaska (awesome desert, heard the lady next to us came to Atoma specifically for it) before it was time to go!
Will definitely come again
The ambience is genuinely lovely. The setting inside a single-family house is super cute, warm, and intimate. Unfortunately, the execution in the kitchen doesn’t always live up to the atmosphere.
The Rosetta cookie is pretty, but that’s where its appeal ends for me. The filling is pearl onion, which feels like a deliberate nod to Canlis — but I honestly don’t understand what’s special about pearl onions here or how they’re different from regular onions in flavor or effect.
We had an off-menu appetizer of grilled cod collars, which was excellent. Deeply umami, soy-glazed with a subtle kick — rich, satisfying, and easily the highlight of the meal. I’d order this again in a heartbeat if it’s available.
For mains, we got black cod and beef coulotte. The black cod was very well executed with great doneness, and the sauce was quite classic and standard, nothing particularly distinctive.
The beef coulotte was a miss. It feels like the wrong cut for what the dish is trying to be — the cut at medium rare was tough, hard to cut, and close to impossible to chew. Good luck if you’re looking to work your chewing muscles.
Overall, Atoma has a charming setting and flashes of real skills, but inconsistent execution and some questionable menu decisions hold it back from being good.
The only downside was the wait time. Even with a reservation, we waited about 45 minutes, likely due to a busy Friday evening. However, the restaurant handled it well and made up for the delay. I walked in feeling slightly frustrated but left completely satisfied by the meal. Because of that, I could not bring myself to deduct any points. We will definitely be back.
Service was outstanding: knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. The wine was also very good. Every dish felt thoughtful but not overly fussy. Unique flavors and not overly complicated so the main ingredient really could be enjoyed in both fresh flavor and texture. Some of the best tomatoes I have eaten over the last year. A place that takes flavor and presentation seriously but still makes it all feel comfortable and welcoming. I left impressed and looking forward to returning soon.
We had the rosette cookie, deviled crab, hokaido scallops, lamb saddle, sturgeon, pork coppa, baked Alaska dessert, bananorama (tasted like bananaboat sunscreen), and a scoop of the tea ice cream(too salty).
Overall, not a bad meal but will not be returning.
