While visiting New York, I wanted a quick bite and thought oh a new york hotdog. A quick search brought up a tiny, unassuming spot in Corning, NY, called C&J’s, rocking a near-perfect 4.9-star review. I had to investigate.
We pulled up, and the place, it’s small, but inside buzzing, and bursting with personality and flavor inside.
I told the awesome woman at the counter I was in the market for a hot dog, and she just laughed. She said, “Not on Fish Friday, honey! Flip that menu over!”
And sure enough, on the back? A glorious, full-page fish spread!
Well, when you get a recommendation that strong, you listen. We put in an order for the fish, and let me tell you, it was the best decision.
While we waited (pro tip: it’s a take-out spot!), we had the BEST time chatting with the whole staff. They are truly the heart and soul of the place—full of fun, friendly energy.
Then came the food. The fish was insane! We’re talking massive, perfectly cooked, and utterly delicious pieces. My hot dog craving instantly vanished.
The verdict? Head to C&J’s in Corning and absolutely make sure you go on Fish Friday! You’ll leave with a full belly and a great story.

You must visit this place on Fridays between 2-7pm to get the best fish fry. I had fried haddock with a cornmeal breading. My. friend had fried haddock with a traditional breading.
The vegetable were excellent. I had Mac and cheese ( yummy)and fried cauliflower. My friend had green beans( contains pork) and onion rings(amazing).
I’d go back there every Friday if I lived in Corning, New York.
Since there are so many parks around that area, we took the meals to the nearest one and ate it at an outdoor picnic table.
Vegetarians would like the sides but be careful to ask if any of them in addition to the green beans contain pork.

While visiting the NY southern tier region (Hailing from Maryland) it was recommended to me to try this place. Upon entering the establishment, I was greeted with down south hospitality; smiles and good conversation! I ordered fried haddock with cornmeal breading, green beans, mac and cheese, and baked beans. I must say, EVERYTHING I ordered was great. Two thumbs up for me. If in the area, give it a try.

This little place has big flavors and we eat here at least once a week. My only issue is lack of a set menu and schedule. But, variety is good and the food is fantastic! The BBQ sauce is the best! Oh, and that pumpkin corn bread? I’m drooling right now!! Yum!
**4/6/2025-Just had the beef tips, mashed potatoes and collards. The beef was cooked perfectly..not tough..melt in your mouth. The mashed potatoes are “real” and really tasty. Not lumpy. Now…I don’t like every restaurant’s collards…I grew up in the South and there are many interpretations depending upon where you are. C & J’s never disappoints. Love their collards! I add hot sauce & vinegar (my preference)..you just can’t go wrong with C & J’s…we had the broiled fish on Friday as well. The people there are always welcoming and friendly. Hot damn so good. Your know your in the right spot when it’s in the cuts and ran bye a southern family that’s overly the top friendly you just know your about to get a trip to flavor town. I’m still trying to process all the damn flavors on this plate here’s a hint it’s been eaten for 5 hours and I’m still thinking about it wanting more even though I’m still stuffed. Best %100 in town. Is it the best in nys? It’s in the discussion for sure at least that I’ve tried . Think I’m kidding look at my reviews I travel everywhere throughout the state . And I don’t give anyone a 5 star review especially after one time . I’ll give a bad review real after one time . But this place got my 5 star review fast . Now my only complaint and to be fair it’s not a complaint as much as a back handed compliment, I wish I had gotten more coleslaw, the container was small as is and that freaking coleslaw was on point it left me wanting a little more then a half filled small container. Again it was really good idk if you should give more because it could take away from the star of the show the fish and the sides .so idk I’m up in the air about that plus as you can see the the plate for whatever it’s is we paid for it’s freaking big . So it’s not like it’s a deal breaker because it’s just a great fish fry. I’m afraid to try the chicken now because what if I like it more how am I gunna grade that lol. I’ll definitely %1555555555000000 will be back.

A mainly take out establishment. We purchased two fish fries . One with dirty rice and Mac and cheese. Both very good. The other fish dinner we had fried cauliflower and french fries. I really enjoyed the Mac and cheese ,my other half enjoyed the dirty rice. The fish was very good! We called ahead,for pick up .Staff was very pleasant and food was ready promptly. Looking forward to trying their other menu items
