As a follow-up we went back and had a second delicious dinner and we both got the sampler platter which has a big variety of things and it was delicious and looking forward to going back again on a regular basis.
If she doesn’t get a raise after this, then you all better do something about it. She was fantastic with our group, steadily checking in and keeping the area clear. I apologize for the kids, and thank you wholeheartedly for the patience she had when it came to keeping everyone’s order in check.
The food and atmosphere was superb. It took a while, but we had a large group and it was expected. When the food arrived, it was hot and fresh! Couldn’t ask for a better wait staff, but I do have 1 suggestion: please add a diaper change station in the bathroom. Otherwise it was an amazing first time dining here to eat some german food.
The cleanliness and decorations were beautiful. There’s plenty of parking and open seating. The menu may be small, but the flavors are packed.
What I loved the most-outside of the beer- was the affordability of the food. We’ll be coming back, and looking forward to the beer and seeing you again Dory!
The complimentary pretzel buns were amazing. I shared both the sausage platter and pork knuckle with a friend and the portions were very generous. The pork knuckle says it feeds two and it really does mean that.
Complimentary bread was fine, it tasted like pretzel. It was soft and not too salty. Liver dumpling soup was hearty and the meat was tender. Broth was good. The brat was fine, tender and flavorful. Mashed potatoes were fine.
Here comes the bad. Apple pancakes were too crunchy like reheated. It’s not soft like regular pancakes. Not a lot of apples inside. The hammock was still frozen which was why it was so difficult to cut. I’ve had hock before and if it’s made fresh, it’ll cut easily. This one was frozen solid in the middle. We can hear them putting it back in the microwave. We took it home to reheat it in the oven. The sampler platter was mostly terrible. The schnitzel didn’t even look like one (I’ve had it many times at other German restaurants). The sauerbraten and the gulasch bowl both had tough meats. You’ll be chewing on this for like forever. The cheesy spaetzle they actually forgot but reheated it when I inquired about my order. Definitely wasn’t fresh. It was unflavored.
The owners did give us the cheesy spaetzle for free and 20% of the hock order. However, I think they should have given us the entire order of hock for free or 75% off. After all, it wasn’t even cooked fresh and was still frozen in the middle. The husband was very apologetic but yeah apologies couldn’t save this horrendous experience. I do not recommend coming here. If you do come, eat at your own risk.
The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza but the interior is decorated beautifully. The pictures a very nice. One wall has an assortment of German hats. Another has an assortment of beautiful cuckoo clocks.
I recommend this restaurant if you are craving good German food.
Our server was attentive and had set up a cute bday table, since we were celebrating a bday. Service was great ! Also had German music playing in the background, which was nice.
Atmosphere , well it is a strip mall restaurant and was a extremely hot day. Given that the place was still clean , comfortable and organized.
Food was good. Some really good and some decent but not great. Loved our soups and salad. The German salad and dressing was spot on. The cream of chicken soup was delish. Recommend the sausage platter and the roasted potatoes as a side. Potatoes can use some salt but that is easily added. These were our starters
Our mains were good and large portions sizes. Certainly value for the money.
The fav was the spaetzle with goulash over. The schnitzels were excellent but the sauce was off.wgich took it down overall. You can get a side of Knoedel or balls of stuffing and that was good , however the gravy took away from its flavor.
Beer is served in steins and was awesome! Loved them but they ran out of the radler which was our favorite.
We got complimentary cakes for our bday and appreciated that. All in all we enjoyed the place and most good with a few caveats. Worth checking out if you like German food.
Had a Goulash with sides of Jambalaya & Soup of the Day (Liver Dumpling). The goulash was a tad disappointing as it was just a few chunks of meat (beef, pork, and maybe chicken?) in a gravy, which was less of a “hunters stew” than I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, though, I was still delectable: tender meat and a smooth, mild flavored gravy that paired perfectly.
The jambalaya was a surprising option of side, but a welcome one. The sausages used in it were amazing and it had a nice tangy heat that provided a complimentary contrast to the goulash.
The soup – liver dumpling – was one that I’ll admit I ordered without hearing that it was liver initially, instead just hearing “dumpling soup”. I’m glad I did, though, as (after a bit of mental suppression of my queasiness regarding organ meats) I found it to be an extremely mild liver flavor that was so excellently seasoned I might not have realized it was liver if I hadn’t seen the signboard with the soups of the day.
Overall, it’s an excellent choice for anyone craving or interested in German cuisine. I’ll certainly have to try to have room next time for the excellent looking desserts in the front entrance/bakery.
