We dined here a couple of years ago and had a great experience. We decided to come back in for a late lunch and had a pretty good meal. We were the only guests in the restaurant at the time.
The Banh Bao (minus cilantro) had large portions of pork belly and the sauce was pretty good. I love bao and this did not disappoint.
The Cha Gio (Imperial Rolls) were a bit on the small side but paired well with some crunchy lettuce, I don’t think the mint paired as well with the flavor profile as the other greens did.
The Xao Cari (Coconut Curry) was tasty and plated nicely. I only had a bite but their were no complaints.
I had the noodle dish that they made mild and provided chili oil on the side so I could customize the heat level. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness. However, even with the oil, I still felt like the dish didn’t have a sauce to pull it together. It just felt like noodles, beef, and some veg mixed together. I don’t know if that was somewhat due to the modification though.
We also had their Vietnamese Coffee Martini which was just boozy enough with a really lovely ube cream.

Monsoon sets a high standard for authentic Vietnamese food. The place is co-owned by a Vietnamese and I think it’s more approachable to Americans. Love the light fixtures and decorations. It’s such a waste that they haven’t got their liquor license yet. The food is phenomenal and well-presented. I got the Grand Rapids Fried Rice and the Wagyu steak was cooked Medium perfectly. Good portion. Our waitress misheard the order and promised to take the wrong item off the bill but ended up including it in the check. Anyway, we will come back for the good ambience and good service.

Loved this place. Started with the beef carpaccio salad and was absolutely delighted. It was generous and full of lots of beef along with veggies, fresh herbs, and a wonderful dressing. The Brussels sprouts and pork belly were equally impressive. The char on the sprouts was exquisite. Definitely need to return to explore more of the menu. Fantastic hospitality as well.

When hubby and I found out a Vietnamese restaurant was opening downtown Grand Rapids, we were pretty stoked. Vietnamese traditions run deep in our family and we couldn’t wait to support a business that showcased the beauty of Vietnam through its thoughtfully curated cuisine & interior space.

Some highlights:
Love the decor and the mood of the restaurant— it’s very inviting!

The grilled tomahawk pork chop was hot and juicy, the chimichurri was a great balance of Vietnamese flavors (hints of lime, basil, and cilantro).
The lime dressing on the salad of the grilled tomahawk reminded me of my mother in law’s homemade dressing (huge compliment, she’s one of the best cooks I know)… so good!

Our server Jennifer was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was nice and welcoming, and food was delectable!

Overall experience: 10/10

We can’t wait to try more food and drinks from their menu!

Monsoon is awesome. Found this place while strolling around downtown and decided to give it a try and I am so glad we did! We ordered drinks and for entrees, the grilled salmon and the chicken entree. Everything was just delicious!! The drink with the fresh orange juice and sweetened condensed milk was so fresh and a unique addition to the menu. Both entrees were very fresh and full of flavor and leave you feeling full and satisfied rather than heavy. The service was great and the ambience was awesome. Perfect date place. Overall would 10000% recommend dining here!

I had the Spring rolls, Grand Rapids fried rice, and the Vietnamese flan. Spring rolls were not that special. I meant to order the egg rolls, but screwed up. The fried rice and wagyu steak had great flavor, but needed to be warmer. The steak was on the medium well side instead of medium. Overcooked. The flan was tasty, but don’t get it if you are not a coffee fan. The coffee topping is strong. Was good, but the cheesecake also sounded good.

Group of 12 shared apps, all ordered entrees. Server was spot on with EVERY SINGLE ORDER!!! Even split checks without complaint. Chef and his staff created amazing dishes in an open kitchen. Food was PHENOMENAL!! Cannot wait to go back!! So reasonably priced too!

Best pho I ever had and the spring rolls too.
This place is worth every penny. The quality of the food is above the expectations. The wings were very crispy and tasty too.
I highly recommend this place. Our server was super friendly and helpful with my questions about the menu.
The only thing about this place, that it was a bit warm inside.

My husband loved the pho. I got the restaurant week special (beef and carrot stew) it was good. It came with rice. I wish it had more broth, but it was flavorful.

Service was great!

The white chocolate mousse was INCREDIBLE!

Bang bang shrimp was also really tasty!

I don’t think the pho is worth $28.

If you love Vietnamese food, go to Monsoon in downtown GR. Street parking and parking garages are nearby. Service was efficient and friendly and they even brought over a complimentary appetizer.

The wagyu steak was delicious with the brown sauce it comes in. My friend loved the coconut curry and my wife enjoyed the pho. The bang bang shrimp is delicious too!

If you like more sweet drinks, order their sangria.
