Reviews
After placing my order, I sat and waited for about 10 minutes. When the worker finally brought my food, he was touching my food directly with his hands. I asked for a big plate, and he told me it only comes with a small plate. I calmly asked if I could please get one extra plate. Instead of helping, he reacted rudely and again touched my food in an unhygienic way.
What made the situation worse was that the manager was standing right in front of us and said nothing. There was no correction, no apology, and no concern for food safety or customer respect.
This experience felt rude, rough, and very unhygienic. Food handling should always be clean and professional, and customers should be treated with basic respect.
I do not recommend this location based on my experience.
Smart Cafe 3 on Hillside Ave, Jamaica, had initially impressed me with its compact setup and authentic Desi flavors. That first visit truly felt like a hidden gem. However, over the years, the quality seems to have steadily declined—and today’s visit was unfortunately the worst yet.
We purchased several snacks, but what we received was far from acceptable. The items had a noticeable spoiled smell—particularly the Singara, which seemed rotten and completely ruined our appetite. The alo chop were stale, and the so-called Pati Shapta pitha was just halwa awkwardly wrapped in a dry roti—nothing like the traditional item it claimed to be.
It’s disappointing to see a place with potential ignore the basics of quality control. In such a competitive area, Smart Cafe should focus on fewer items done right, rather than filling the display with subpar, possibly expired snacks. Customers deserve fresh, flavorful food—not a ruined afternoon.
I traveled all the way from Long Island, hoping to relive that initial charm. Sadly, I left with nothing but disappointment.
Smart Cafe, let’s be smart—quality over quantity, always.
There are plenty of much better cafés nearby that offer cleaner spaces, professional service, and a more welcoming environment. I strongly recommend avoiding this place, your time and money are better spent elsewhere.
This is actually my 3rd time here & for the first time I wished it was close to my home. I don’t know if the owner has changed but something has changed for better & I loved those changes .
The place looks more colorful & inviting. Place looked clean . Service was much much better than my last visits.
So the reason I went all the way to Jamaica , queens is because I wanted to give a taste to my coworkers of my cultural food . As a Bangladeshi I am very proud of our love for food ! So I am always bragging at work. Finally after months we finally reached there.
Almost passed this store because of past experience but decided to give one more chance. And I am so glad I did. We were 11 of us & everyone loved all the snacks, winter desserts & malai cha. Yummmmm..!
If it was close to manhattan I am pretty sure they would visit this place a lot. And for me I will travel 3 hours from my island to here just for the yummy food & experience!
It’s like all my favorite childhood favorites in one place! I am definitely coming back soon to try the rest of the food . And will update later how it goes.
My coworkers thanks me so many times for introducing my cultural food to them. They said everything was amazing .
So, thank you guys for the great service, warm welcome & of course for all the yummy food. And sorry for not able to take more pictures of the food lol, I was just to hyper showing them all the food & explaining everything. I forgot to take pictures of our foods ! Silly me..! So don’t wait, if you are in that hillside area do give them a visit, you will love all those snacks & desserts!
First time I was there the experience was better, so when I got another chance I came for second time . What a disappointment ♀️ I hope they fix their food before we the customers stop coming … The idea for this establishment was great, just need to work real hard to keep up !
I am not trying to be that customer but I always try to be fair & honest while reviewing; nothing personal ! Customer service was ok tho. Btw the place doesn’t look clean or organized!
Took my mom to eat some desi dessert. Ordered bhapa pitha, puli pitha, patishaptha, fuchka, chiken swarma . Only item we actually liked was bhapa pitha . We should have just ordered more of that . Fuchka was so cold & the chatni was so smelly ! It was real bad, after my mom told the lady about it she smelled it & through out the whole box of it. Then she goes start doing her other work . Rather then giving my mom a new chatni so she could eat her fuchka! I had to get up & tell her again & asked how we supposed to eat fuchka without chatni !
Then the patishapta was tasting weired like the mixture went bad. The puli pitha was so hard & taste awful! I am too sad to even write this review! Didn’t expect to have an experience like this here !
