From the moment we arrived, the experience at Woodend was nothing short of magical. We were greeted with perfectly crafted cocktails from Mexicos world famous cocktail makers which set the tone. Refreshing , balanced, and served with a smile that made us feel instantly at home .
The most unforgettable moments – Being invited into the kitchen to cook our steaks alongside the chef . It wasn’t just dinner — it was an intimate, hands-on celebration of flavor and connection. The food, Honestly! Some of the best tastes I’ve ever had. Every bite was layered, thoughtful, and bursting with freshness. You could feel the love in the seasoning.
The staff were phenomenal — warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They made us feel like part of the family, not just guests.
And the setting… wow. Nestled in a beautiful corner of Mexico, the venue is a feast for the senses. Lush greenery, ambient lighting, and a vibe that’s both elegant and relaxed. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer, sip a little slower, and soak it all in .

We started with a tequila cocktail before dinner, on the recommendation of the waiter. It only got better from their. We ordered the seafood risotto to start, we each ordered the filets which came exactly as ordered. The pave potato was absolutely fabulous, we ordered one to share, and I wish we had ordered two. Excellent service, food and drink. It is a Michelin starred restaurant and rightly so. Highly recommend.

An incredible dining experience provided by the staff from beginning to the end. The food was delicious, carefully prepared and served and everything was amazing! I definitely recommend this restaurant and its staff! Be prepared to spend more than your usual diner, but it’s definitely worth it! A great location for special occasions and events!

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The agnolotti appetizer will blow you away and the signature uva cocktail will alter your brain chemistry so that all you’ll ever want is a grape-infused alcoholic beverage.
The staff’s attention to detail and their service was also incredible. Rafa and the staff made us feel like VIPs. I recommend this to anyone within spitting distance of Cancun or Tulum, it’s service and ambiance will make you feel like you just did a whole season of white lotus in one night (murder not included).

5 star experience – best service we’ve had at any restaurant n our trip. Excellent flavor profiles and execution of every dish: The steak and lamb were standouts – along with the gnocchi. The manchego cheese bread and seasoned butter was otherworldly – they happily offered a second round for our family – and we happily took them up on the offer!

Dinner was quite an experience. The restaurant is about 25 minutes out of playa del carmen. Upon arriving I realized how important it was that we had a reservation. We would not have made it past the security checkpoint without one. Upon arriving at the hotel, things got a touch awkward for a moment. Apparently we are one of a handful of diners who are not guests of the hotel to eat here. The outdoor bar is for guests only so being early for our reservation they didn’t really know what to do with us. Then Martin came to the rescue.
He got us a couple of cocktails and little bowls of bar snacks and our magical experience began. Thank you so much Martin! When the restaurant opened he showed us in and introduced us to the staff that would take care of us for the evening. Xiomara was our server.
For reference, I have worked in restaurants for over 30 years. Most of it in fine dining. I am currently the GM of one of the 50 best pizza restaurants in the U.S. (according to the Italians.) I know a lot more about food, drink and service than your average diner. My attention to the smallest of details is part of my every day.
Xiomara was truly world class. She was extremely knowledgeable. Beyond friendly. And genuinely interested in not only our experience at Woodend but Mexico as a whole.
On to the food. We chose to do the tasting menu paired with wine. As soon as they started me with my favorite champagne in the world I knew I was in store for a treat. Every course was expertly prepared. Xiamora explained the inspiration behind each dish and the restaurant as a whole. Also telling us about the region Woodend is in.
The highlight of the meal for us was the fish dish. I cook a lot but usually not fish. Nor do I order it while going out. This dish may have changed that for me. It was that good. And this may sound crazy but the bread also stood out. I have honestly never had better bread.
As far as the wine pairings were concerned. Spot on. They were trying some new pairings and they hit the nail on the head. Each wine elevated the dish with which it was served. The red with the steak was a Mexican red blend. It was so good that I got 2 bottles at a high end store in Tulum to take back to the owners of my restaurant and my bar manager. The Albarino was also stellar. If you haven’t had this varietal do yourself a favor. The muscata was also phenomenal and that is not one that I usually enjoy.
We got to visit briefly with the chef de cuisine I presume and he was awesome as well. Other than the first few minutes of awkwardness this meal was truly one of the best I have had. I have eaten at Michelin starred restaurants before and this place deserves a star. Hope they get it.
The hotel itself is amazing. Stunning even. Apparently named top 50 in the world? Unfortunately it was a bit too expensive for us. We considered canceling our Airbnb in Tulum to stay here until we realized one night would be the same as our 4 night stay at an amazing condo in Tulum. But would absolutely be worth the stay if you are in that tax bracket.
In summary, if I could give this more than 5 stars I would. And I am pretty judicious in my praise of dining out at a place such as this. I hope the staff reads this review and understands how much their service contributed to our vacation. And I hope their employers understand how lucky they are to have them there.

Unfortunately, I have to give only one star to this restaurant. The issues started even before the reservation. In early December, I went to the Woodend website to book a dinner for the evening of December 31st because my partner and I wanted to celebrate both our anniversary and New Year’s Eve there, as they fall on the same night. However, when trying to make the reservation on the website, there was a notice saying that the table would only be available until 11 PM (I was trying to make the reservation at 9:30 PM). For this reason, I called the restaurant, and someone reassured me saying that there would be a special New Year’s Eve event with a special menu and fireworks or some kind of celebration at midnight. The person told me they would send an email with all the details for the reservation as soon as possible. A few days later, not having received any email, I tried calling again, but the line was busy. I went ahead with the reservation anyway and wrote in the notes what had been told to me, meaning that we would stay to celebrate midnight.
The day before New Year’s Eve, I received an email (attached) stating that there would be no special New Year’s Eve dinner. Okay. Since I couldn’t find anything else last minute, I confirmed the reservation. We arrived about ten minutes late (usually there’s a 15-minute grace period, so it didn’t seem unusual to us, given that the roads are very dark and dangerous), and the first thing they told us was that they only take orders until 10 PM, so we had to hurry to order. But if the website and the email stated that the last available slot was at 10 PM, should we have ordered before sitting at the table?! Anyway, we ordered, and they brought everything at once, causing the dishes to cool down. Everything was good, but of course, it would have been better if it had been hot (aside from the raw fish, of course). We finished dinner at 11 PM, and out of courtesy, I asked if, as initially promised, we could stay until midnight (I would have also ordered something to drink, considering the fairly high dinner bill of around $100 per person). The waiter told me he needed to check with his manager since there was still a lot of time until midnight (what does that even mean?!). After 10 minutes, the manager came over and said we couldn’t stay because the restaurant would be closed at midnight (there were about 9 other people split into different tables around us, what did they do, kick them out?). She said that if we wanted to celebrate at midnight, we would have to go to the restaurant next door (same hotel, literally 5 meters away, facing the same beach), paying another $100 PER PERSON just to watch the fireworks. Stunned, I asked for an explanation since we had just spent the same amount on dinner, and certainly, even if I had ordered a bottle of wine to drink by myself or to take away (since my partner had to drive and couldn’t drink much), I wouldn’t have reached that amount. Meanwhile, my partner had gone to the bathroom and asked another employee at the entrance the same question, and he was told there was no problem staying. As time passed, we found ourselves practically kicked out of this luxurious restaurant around 11:30 PM, and we still left a 15% tip, only to have our New Year’s Eve ruined in such an utterly disgraceful manner. I absolutely do not recommend this place!

Fun night. Great quality and relatively (for Riviera Maya) decent prices. Wine list is incredible. The tasting menu was OK – no bad food but was a bit safe/not very interesting. The primary menu looked better. What really elevates this place is the level of service – well done to the Belmond team!
