We had a very good experience at Amara. It was fairly busy but our server was hands on and responsive. The drinks were tasty and they had seasonal special cocktails which was a nice touch. The atmosphere was really nice, low light vibes but comfy. The food was tasty but very monotone. Everything was a bit pale, would’ve been nice to see a little more vibrancy or contrast in the dishes. You eat with your eyes first! But overall, tasty and didn’t break the bank.

Had a lovely experience at Amara! I visited during restaurant week and everything was delicious! Highly recommend the Avocado salsa Verde Bruschetta, the kumquats are a beautiful addition to the dish! Cocktails are also a must!
There was a misunderstanding with the restaurant week menu, but was resolved promptly by the manager Julie! Our server for the evening was Sarah and she was great! I did notice all of the staff help out with the tables and not just one waiter/waitress, which I thought was great. Definitely would come again!

Great new mall eatery – they did a great job transforming the location to offer a mid-level upscalish venue in this area. Staff is friendly and attentive. Parking is easy since there is mall ramp parking as well as stalls in front. The small plates are decent size to share with 2 people. Reasonable prices.they need shades to block the sun so diners can be comfortable. Almost put on sunglasses. They also have a patio, great for warm weather dining. Best way is to get several dishes and sample the menu – see what you like and explore, go beyond your usual items. Enjoy!
Update: if are tempted to do NA drinks, pass, get water or whatever… they are full of ice and mostly sugar not worth the $$. They look pretty but that’s about it.

I think overall this is a decent place to eat, but I’m pretty generous with my reviews. Amara does, unfortunately, fall short in many ways:
First the food is fairly mediocre, especially for the price. Don’t expect to be blown away — at least not with the brunch, nor the drinks. The service was also leaving much to be desired. Practically begging for water to be refilled and plates to be cleared means something’s wrong. I did enjoy the atmosphere generally. Place seems fairly clean and open and airy, with a pretty decent view to outside and outdoor seating. Maybe better for dinner, but if I were you I’d skip brunch.

I went to Amara over the weekend for a belated birthday dinner. I was so excited to try a new Italian joint in Madison. The restaurant itself is BEAUTIFUL. They totally transformed the space from the Pasqual days. The vibe is super cool. As for the food, my family ordered two appetizers – the lamb meatballs and the calamari. I normally do not like calamari due to the texture, but Amara’s calamari was pretty good. The aioli was very tasty. The lamb meatballs were pretty good. It was a tiny bit strange that there were four pieces of bread for six meatballs. We also ordered two pasta dishes: the Mafaldine Cacio e Pepe and Paccheri. Here’s where we had some issues. The pasta noodle in the Cacio e Pepe was strange. Another noodle would have been better in my opinion, and the Cacio would do well by adding some super aged Parmigiano Reggiano. The lemon notes in the sauce were lovely. The Paccheri sauce was more of a broth than a sauce. In the picture, it’s pretty clear that the pasta noodles were not covered in a ragu. The service was excellent.
We felt like the quality of the food did not match up with the price. Sadly, I don’t think my family will return. Amara has a lot of potential, and I hope they can work out the kinks in their pasta dishes.
P.S. my husband said he would have given Amara two stars. We paid $7 for a strawberry lemonade and to say he was upset is an understatement.

Lovely restaurant. Perfect for a nice spring evening with the open windows and walls. Great atmosphere for friends or a romantic dinner.
We really enjoyed the lasagna (not like the usual dish), porcheta, and gnocchi.
The desserts were tasty and if it’s your birthday you get a free dessert or a round of proseco for the table.
This is a great Madison restaurant and a lot of fun.

Fantastic experience! Came for a late lunch and cocktails and was very impressed. We all had pastas and loved them! Lovely place to meet up with friends. Very spacious and bright and with attentive and friendly staff. Full bar with creative and delicious range of cocktails and spritzers. We all went for some of their seasonal cocktails and were very impressed. Gorgeously decorated and maintained with very nice toilet facilities.

If you like salt you’re going to love this place. The menu is very shortt in terms of choices. I opted for some kind of steak dinner but it was extremely salty. The olive oil and the bread were very good however.
Unfortunately you cannot get a glass chardonnay at this restaurant. They just don’t offer it.

Came here for Sunday brunch with friends! Though the atmosphere and service were great, the food was unfortunately not up to par and a bit of a disappointment. I had the eggs in purgatory, but I found it to be overly seasoned, a bit watery, and not as good as other shakshuka dishes I’ve had. My friend had the baked cacio e pepe, which she felt lacked pepper. Overall, not sure I’ll be coming back for the food but loved the atmosphere.

First time trying this place and honestly we were impressed, especially considering they just opened a week ago. We went for their date night, which is a starter, an order of bruschetta and a shareable pasta and bottle of wine. The endive and arugula salad was first and a very large portion, which we were thrilled about, and the dressing and composition of the salad was impeccable — did not expect fennel or such a well balanced lemon vinaigrette but it was superb. Next was the eggplant bruschetta, which if you’re expecting to be pre assembled, is not the case. We didn’t mind it because we enjoyed scooping the toppings onto the toast ourselves, but be forewarned it’s not your typical bruschetta in that respect. The toast though was really nice, big thick sliced with lots of oil and a nice crust. The beef cheek ragu pasta was PERFECTLY cooked, the perfect amount of al dente, and the sauce was perfection, not watery and very flavorful but not overpowering. The beef was phenomenal. The sharable portion was pretty small though, we actually wondered if we were served the individual portion instead of the sharable size. Because we were still hungry and out of curiosity, we ordered the bucatini Nero in the smaller size, which was also very well done though the squid in the dish was minimal and the portion size was similar to what we got before. We also got the burnt ricotta cake for dessert, which for someone who doesn’t even like chocolate cake, was very impressive and delicious. Overall we were very impressed with the food, and the wine was also well paired with what we ordered.
The only minor criticisms I had were on the service, I expected the wine to be opened and poured for us. I also expected fresh ground pepper to be offered when the pasta was served. Also, dinner took 2.5 hours between all our courses, although it admittedly didn’t seem that long while we were eating! The portioning of the pasta for date night also left something to be desired, and if that was indeed the sharable size we got, I’d encourage you to just get the smaller size for your money’s worth. But overall, we were still extremely happy with the experience and incredibly impressed with how smooth things went for the first week. We would love to come back and see how things improve as time goes on.
