We stopped to eat before continuing our journey to Taos, and it was by far the most flavorful food I’ve had.
We ordered the soft tacos plate along with an enchilada filled with asada and barbacoa. Everything tasted amazing, with authentic Latin flavors in every bite, from the rice to the meats. It’s definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Very tasty barbacoa. Prices on menu were not shown, was charged an absurd $37 for 4 tiny street tacos, 1 Navajo taco and two soft drinks. Had two used carriages of narcan under our table. Skip this place for something more reasonable and sanitary.

I stopped in for a breakfast burrito as I passed through town. I ordered it with chorizo and green chile (comes with egg, potato, cheese and maybe other sauteed veggies). It was the size of my arm, but I didn’t mind. The burrito was excellent! While I was waiting for my burrito, I watched a gentleman tend to the fire of the huge outdoor grill/smoker. Next time I will definitely get the “full meal pollo asado”.

Honestly my favorite food in Española. Their beans are amazing just like my Tia used to make. Tacos are flavorful and delicious. Worth the wait and good prices.

Not great. Tripitas for my tacos were fried in a deep fryer which made them too crispy and fattier than necessary. I’ve never seen tripas cooked like that. I also only ordered the tacos (not the plate) and the guy said it would be 6 tacos, but I only got 4. Not worth going back for the other 2 in my opinion. The carne asada torta was very low-quality meat, lots of fat, gristle, and nerve. The salsas were okay, not spicy at all.

El Pilar never disappoints. I have tried quite a few things off of their menu, and everything so far has been delicious. I would suggest getting there early since they only smoke so much of every meat and can run out of choices later in the day.
