A huge shout-out to Joe, our waiter, who truly made the night. Not only was he attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm, but he also had the best nails—even if one was chipped (which only made him more iconic). Joe made sure we got exactly what we wanted, never rushed us, and checked in at all the right moments. Service like that elevates an already great experience into something memorable.
The cocktails were absolute perfection—beautifully crafted, balanced, and clearly made by someone who knows what they’re doing. When it came to food, we definitely preferred the dinner menu over lunch, and Joe guided us perfectly. The meats were cooked beautifully, flavorful, and satisfying, and everything came out looking as good as it tasted.
And I have to specifically call out the French onion soup—it was phenomenal. Rich, comforting, perfectly cheesy, and exactly what you want on a cold day. This spot is truly a West Reading gem. Don’t walk—run here. Between the food, the drinks, the holiday spirit, and Joe taking incredible care of us, this was an easy five-star experience from start to finish.
1) reservations made -we entered the restaurant, greeted by friendly desk personnel and seated within 5 mins. I know as it got busier in the evening, guest would go to the bar for a max 15 min wait, nothing unusual and it shows great management of the table rotations .
2) service- this was our first time and we happened to get an old friend (Joe). Joe is top notch, fun, attentive and could work at the best of the best. Our service was impeccable and that includes, reception and delivery of the food by the rest of the staff and obviously Joe.
3) Food quality, assortment and taste. We started with apps Calamari, they were surprisingly abundant, enough for 4 people let alone just the two of us. Light, perfectly fried, exceptionally fresh and tender. I had the Porterhouse steak, cooked to perfection, and would rival most high end steak houses. Trust me I have had Wagyu in Hong Kong, so I know my steak. It will arrive cut, so if that is not your style let them know. My wife dish ( fish ) was cooked to perfection and one of the best she has ever had. Our dinners came with side salad and again very good, not simple lettuce but a great combination with excellent dressing.
4) drinks, I had the house wine cab, excellent taste and very smooth, my wife had a mixed drink martini again excellent execution and branded well know sprits per her request.
5) atmosphere-probably one of the best in the local area. Classic decor, nice distance between tables so privacy is nice yet you get the fun lively experience of dining out. The appearance of everything is new as it should be but well maintained. There are options for more private window dining that has to be seen to understand.
6) cost to value. This is where it gets interesting. If you read the reviews many will note cost , cost, cost and cost lol . The challenge with upscale restaurants in Wyomissing, West Reading is that ( sorry) not all of the clients have dined in comparable restaurants. This place would be considered mid range, example for steak at high end you’re going to pay $75 to $85 plus sides. At mid town, your in the mid $50ties to highest $65 and that includes a salad and a side. The aps over delivered on cost to value and flavor. Drinks were comparable with local restaurants.
In closing I would definitely rate this place a win/win! You can enjoy a busy atmosphere while having an intimate conversation and great food. This is a great place for friends, date night or an important business dinner. Dining is casual but in respect for the wonderful atmosphere business casual is a way of saying thanks to the ownership for the great dining experience..
One last important comment, this is not a smoke and mirrors restaurant that is pretending to be an upgraded version of the other facilities owned by the same family. Midtown is clearly the best in class out of their other restaurants that are in best in their own segments.

So I am half and half with the food here because-
-Garlic Mashed Potatoes 10/10 amazing
-Cocktails 10/10 always so good
-Green beans 5/10 I mean, you can’t mess these up too much but the green beans were super flavorless and seemingly had no butter or salt on them. Would not get those again.
I will say I didn’t love was the Sea Urchin Spagetti ONLY because it was absolutely drenched in lemon juice for some reason. The menu says something like a touch of lemon on top but mine was fully drenched. All I could taste was lemon. But the sea urchin (which I have never had before) seemed very yummy in texture and the noodles seemed very fresh and had a great texture as well. I wish the pasta dish had more flavor other than lemon lol. Sea Urchin Spagetti is pictured here, presentation was pretty good. Some drinks also pictured, very good per usual.
One one hand, they’ve taken what remained of the beautiful interior of the former restaurant and elevated it even further with tasteful additions and improvements. But, really, the elements that were already in place were quite excellent.
On the other hand, the food is very disappointing here. For a “high-end” restaurant, they’re clearly trying to operate under the business model of attracting customers with the decor and ambiance, and cutting costs on the food quality and portions.
The salad I had cost me $18. and I decided to add chicken for $8 more. When it arrived, it was a miserly portion of each on a plate. The chicken was tiny slivers… I counted maybe 6-7 total and they were thin ribbons! $24 for a small salad with thin slivers of chicken. That is quite a rip-off even by modern standards.
As a counterpoint, go to Liberty Ale House in Shillington and order the Chicken Cobb Salad. There, they will give you a whole grilled chicken breast, hard-boiled egg, avocado, and lots of other components, in a big bowl, all for $16. Basically 3x the food and taste for less money than this. Midtown needs to step up the quality and portion sizes of their food or customers will eventually realize they are only being roped in by the location and the ambiance and they are being gouged on dinner options.
