I can’t say enough good things about Carmagnola. My husband and I went on 2/13 for an early Valentine’s Day date night, and the entire experience was wonderful from start to finish.

We both had wine — I chose a white that I wish I could remember the name of because it was exactly what I was hoping for (not too sweet, not overly floral, and not a Chardonnay), and my husband had a great red as well. The hostess even came over to our table to chat with us for a bit, which made the evening feel extra personal and special.

The food was absolutely incredible. We started with the bread with goat butter and goat cheese, which was so delicious. For salads, my husband had the Caesar — a true Caesar where you could really taste the anchovies — and I had the beet salad, which included something I had never had before: beet “raisins,” and they were amazing.

We shared the fingerling potatoes (my personal favorite of the night) and the carrots (my husband’s favorite), and then for entrees I had the Busiate pesto pasta while he had the Mafaldine bolognese. Both were outstanding. Even though we were completely full, we couldn’t leave without trying dessert, and the pear crostata was absolutely divine.

This was easily one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time, and we’ll definitely be back. If you’re looking for a special night out with amazing food and a welcoming atmosphere, Carmagnola is a must-visit.

The Chefs Table at Carmagnola is a six course dining experience unlike any we had ever had.

Seated in a private dining area that is positioned right in front of executive chef Jackson Rouse and culinary staff we were provided a detailed description of every course including how the dish was prepared, the inspiration for the dish and where ingredients were sourced. Some local and some from other parts of the world.

It was treat for the senses. It was surprisingly healthy menu with nothing fried, smothered or processed. 100% fresh ingredients including in house made pasta, micro greens snipped fresh from the table top garden in the kitchen and fresh meats and seafood.

Of all the courses, the wood grilled rabbit cacciatore Trenne in vodka sauce with fennel, green olive and leek was my favorite. The Sumac Seared Hokkaido Scallop in a confit fennel puree surrounded by green chickpeas and Lemon Argumato and the house made vanilla gelato with cocoa nibs and mugilio (a syrup made from pine cones sourced in the Swiss alps) followed closely behind.

My husband and daughter opted to do the wine pairing which they throughly enjoyed. My son and I got separate drinks, he a Limecello and me a Cranberry Mule mocktail. We each had sips of each other’s drinks – all were delicious.

Overall an unbelievable fine dining experience.

Carmagnola in Hamilton, Ohio is an absolute must.
We started the evening with drinks at The Grey—I enjoyed a Port Old Fashioned (not even on the menu!) and Paul tried the house Manhattan. Hands down, some of the best cocktails we’ve ever had. Thoughtfully crafted and perfectly balanced.
For dinner, I had the Steak Jess’s Way, and wow—the steak and pasta were cooked to perfection. Paul ordered the Bucatini Carbonara, and it was absolutely heavenly. Every bite was rich, comforting, and full of flavor.
From start to finish, the experience was flawless.
Food: 10/10
Service: 10/10
Atmosphere: 10/10
We’ll definitely be back—Carmagnola has officially earned a spot on our favorites list. ️✨

What a great find! The staff was wonderful! The food was outstanding – everything was awesome! The carrots are a must!! The wine selection was fantastic. The owner shared so much about the history of building ….. the tables are made of recycled wood from the build! It’s an open concept kitchen that includes a 14 person chefs table. We will definitely be making a reservation to experience that!

A delightful place with fantastic food and drink! Portions of each course are ample, and everything was perfect. I highly recommend the wood fired scallops. We wanted to get a couple of sides, but after the pane of breads and goat butter (which was so creamy and light!) and salami antipasto – we decided to skip any sides and go straight to main courses. We were stuffed! We plan to go back to try more, especially the burnt carrots and T.A.K.E Mushrooms and the meatballs. And some desserts… Picture is of my scallops.

We had a great experience at this new restaurant. It’s easily the best meal that we’ve had in a long time! So fresh, so flavorful and we felt like we were back in Italy eating the pasta dishes. Great vibes as well. Drinks were great and they had my favorite wine, a Super Tuscan, on tap’ We can’t wait to go back.

I debated between 3 and 4 stars. My husband and I went here for his mom’s birthday. It was a nice place to go for a special occasion but I have some thoughts.
Atmosphere- I loved the vibe of the place. It had the exposed brick and the bar was very cool looking. It felt high end and fancy.
Service – our waitress was very nice and did a good job, but I found she didn’t know the menu well, yet. Which is fine, but a lot of the items on the menu were new to us and we would have loved more guidance on recommendations. At places like Sotto, they kind of give a rundown of the menu and offer ways to pair items since it’s all a la carte. I wish we had that as it felt a little overwhelming. I don’t want to say the service was slow but it was drawn out. We were sat at 6:15 and finished around 8:45 without dessert. We did have appetizers and such, so it wasn’t terrible.
Food: I got the Alfredo and it was definitely overcooked. It was almost mush and under salted. I added some lemon from the chicken and it helped a lot. My husband and I split the half chicken, which was good and the sauce was tasty. His carbonara was better than my Alfredo, it definitely had more flavor and the noodles were more al dente although might have been borderline undercooked. Still good, but for the price I’d hoped for more on the homemade pasta. His mom got the steak and pasta special, which I felt was the best of all three. The steak was very good, cooked well, and the flavor was incredible.
We got the mussels, bread with goat butter, and meatballs and those were all very good as well. They also gave us a lot of mussels! Cocktails were also very tasty.
Overall, I’d say the star of the show was the meat and antipasto. Would I go here again? Maybe for cocktails. If I wanted pasta, I would prefer Pepp and Delores or Sotto and for steak I’d probably pick Jeff Ruby’s for the price point.
That said, they are newly opened and I did enjoy 70% of the meal, but for how much it cost I expected to love 100%.

I don’t write many reviews, but this experience is worth mentioning…one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long time. Oysters were past their prime, the oyster liquor tasted like muddy water. The beef carpaccio was pretty good, but it is not wagyu beef. Who puts picanha with pasta? The picanha came out barely at room temperature, and had what tasted almost like a store bought bbq sauce, and then average ‘handmade’ spaghetti noodles. Frankly, store bought De Cecco is better. The chicken, the chicken was not good at all. ‘Wood fired?’ The skin was rubbery, and the only thing on the plate that added flavor was the burnt lemon. This was all brought to the attention of the manager, who claimed that she took the temperature of the picanha after it was sent back to the kitchen. So, she apparently took a laser temperature gun and pointed it at the beef, I’m assuming, and came back and said it wasn’t cold. It was literally barely room temp. I asked for the picanha to be taken off the bill, which she refused, and asked if I would like a to go box. The picanha was barely touched, the plate of chicken was barely touched, the oysters (I ordered six, and I know my oysters) almost made me gag. She refused to take the picanha off the bill, which again was barely touched. She said ‘was the pasta good?’ Really, again, don’t put picanha with spaghetti, and a bbq sauce. Do not pay the prices this place is asking, when there are actually so many great restaurants in the Cincy area. Side note…the scallops on the menu for $58, that they ‘claim’ are Hokkaido scallops, which come from Japan, they are previously frozen, and you can find them at Costco. If you want to spend $150/$200 on a decent dinner for two, go somewhere else.

Edit 01/2026- they are now having people post fake, positive reviews…

What a Wonderful experience! Enjoyed a pre dinner drink at the Grey, then on to an amazing dinner. Our server Kori was perfect. She offered menu selections, wine suggestions and was fun and personable. Our food was beautiful and delicious, nothing smells better than Italian food. We met one of the owners Randy who was gracious and gave us a quick tour of the kitchen and staff who was awesome! If you think Hamilton doesn’t have fine dining, think again! Can’t wait for our next visit! Thank you to all the staff! Cheers!

What a beautiful new addition to Hamilton, Ohio! We had a wonderful experience there. We began our evening at the bar, called the Grey…had an expertly prepared and delicious rye old fashioned. The atmosphere is lovely, exposed brick walls, nice low lighting, gorgeous woodwork and great art on the walls! It is the oldest building in downtown Hamilton which has seen many lives! We had a tour of the two-story bar, the private chef’s table connected to the kitchen and enjoyed a lovely dinner in the dining room which has great ambiance! Jess, the owner, gave us an overview of the building, the meaning behind how they chose the names of everything and an extensive explanation of the menu. It was hard to decide what to order because it is a very interesting menu! My favorite dish was the Fettucini Alfredo which was outstanding with no cream! It is made with butter and parmesano-reggiano….delicious!!! Also the mussels were fabulous! Had an excellent wine with dinner from Orvieto, Italy and an espresso martini that was so good! We will be back and our congratulations to Jess for a very well-thought out dining experience! Hamilton is lucky to have such a wonderful place! Worth the drive from Cincinnati!
