Quite some years ago, after watching the NetFlix documentary, “Cooked,” featuring Michael Pollan, & named after the book he authored by the same title, I was fascinated by the nutritional, & health benefits described, explained, & ascribed to artisan sourdough breads when made following the slower, traditional methods long used by bread making cultures of the world throughout history. I was so excited & inspired that I immediately sought out bakery sources where sourdough bread made in this traditional way might be found. The Seed Bakery was one of the first two such bakeries I found listed anywhere near to me, & it was the one I visited as I sometimes had occasion to be in the area where it is located. They bake a lovely, delicious variety of sourdough breads made from selected, organic grains & flours, some of which are ground fresh at the location, & all of which are baked fresh daily. They also make an amazing assortment of healthier pastries and baked goods, from sweet through savory. They used to offer indoor dining for breakfast, brunch, & lunch meals at their location, but since the pandemic that option has not resumed. Everything now is ordered from outside at one corner of the bakery, & some pastries & other offerings can be seen at front windows for selection purposes. There are a variety of breakfast, brunch & lunch sandwiches & other items still made to order & available to-go, however, & everything I have tried is wonderful & bursting with nutrient vitality! My favorite item is their Rustic, multi-grain sourdough which is available in an oval “batard” or Country Pan Loaf shape. They are the same bread, but just a different shape. Every time I go out to Monrovia for my routine haircut, I stop by Seed Bakery to pick up 2-3 loaves of Rustic Country or Rustic Batard sourdough, & while there, I usually also pick up a fresh baked pastry or two, & sometimes include a featured breakfast, brunch or lunch item to take with me as well. There is nothing like the exquisite, deep, aromatic flavor, wonderfully soft, spongy texture, & chewy crust of Seed Bakery’s artisan sourdough bread! I like to cut a slice, place it in my toaster just long enough to warm it slightly, generously spread organic butter (I prefer salted butter) on it, & soar to culinary Heaven with my first, luscious bite! It is wonderful as is, warmed or toasted, & with anything typically enjoyed on bread, or as a welcome compliment to soup, stews, or other favored main dishes. I was just there this past Thursday, & picked up 3 Rustic Country Pan Loaves at just $7.00 per loaf! Worth every penny & more! I am SO grateful to have artisan sourdough bread of this quality available to me, & I couldn’t recommend Seed Bakery more highly!

The baked goods are $$ & worth the money. On a Wed before Thanksgiving, I ran into the retired, esteemed baker/ pastry chef, Sumi Chang, @ Seed. Sumi said that Seed bakers “know what they’re doing…”

Favorites: sweet & savory croissants, pretzel, scones, bread, breakfast croissant.

The service can be more organized & friendly @ their price point.

No table service – only walk-up window for ordering.

Was early for an event at the Rose Bowl and found this a short distance away. Super high quality baked goods made on site and served by the owner herself! Was impressed with the apple pastry and fresh baguette. The baguette held up well for hours and was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The apple taste was not too sweet and the pastry buttery and flaky. No dining area, pickup only (for now). bought a bag of their granola too, haven’t tried it yet but price was $10 and the bag was heavy, which bodes well for the value.

The best bakery on earth. The bread is fantastic and the pastries are life changing. They always have new, unique and seasonal pastries, many which use local produce. They also have the best croissant in America. The raspberry or berry croissants are great too. It’s hard to choose which pastry to get because there are so many great ones. Get there early—they will sell out of some things by 10 AM on the weekend.

I wish I could give this place six stars!!

Food is amazing. We literally forgot to take some photos of the pastries because they were eaten too quickly!

I see some comments about staff; our experience with the staff was amazing. They were helpful, kind, and patience. They engaged in genuine, heart felt conversations, and were sweet overall.

They had great COVID safety protocol. The amazing baked goods could be seen through the window on the street front. Outside distanced line to a safe order window.

We grabbed a plum pastry, strawberry pastry, almond croissant, pistachio muffin, and a couple others…it was about $35.

There is a parking lot behind the location. It can be a tough to spot the entrance on the street; it is at the north east corner of the building.

Seed Bakery has great fresh food. The beet salad is enormous I’m surprised be it’s weight every time we order it. The beef rib burrito is my favorite. Big great taste, I look forward to it. Vantastic people work here that are always plesant and helpful. Love this small oasis. No seating offered but, a lovely park is near by.

Everything we had was incredible. The salad I had was beautiful, and the pastries were divine. Coffee was good. My friend’s sandwich disappeared fast. We didn’t realize there wasn’t seating at the cafe (covid safety measures), so we walked a couple blocks to Washington park. Will definitely be back ASAP to pick up lunch but won’t try to meet friends there for now. Honestly though I’m really glad to see safety measures in place while so many businesses return to carelessness.

I got there late so many items were sold out already. But the flourless chocolate and baguette I got were great. The baguette smelled so good I took a bit out of the bag as I walked back to my car. It was delicious!
