Update March 10th – yet another bad experience at this location. Order wasn’t even started 10 minutes after expected pickup time and the restaurant was completely empty. The order was wrong yet again. Missing items, brown lettuce, soupy beans, and a hair underneath the tortilla only discovered once I was almost finished. Disgusting. Will not return.
*There is an outdoor patio and the prices are reasonable for the portion sizes.
Once I got home and opened my bag, I discovered that the young man who helped us had written a very kind note on the lid. I have had a horrible last two weeks and it’s wrecked havoc on my mental health, and yesterday had been one of the worst. Seeing this little note honestly made my day and deeply touched me. That gentleman didn’t have any idea what is going on with me, so I appreciate his random act of kindness. I never expected something like this from a Cafe Rio and I don’t know his name, but I hope Cafe Rio knows what a valuable employee they have and hopefully he gets some much earned recognition.
The employee taking the order was polite and patient since this was our first time ordering. We didn’t know that enchilada-style was included in the price or we probably would have ordered it like that. Most places charge extra for enchilada style.
We drove to the window to pay and our order was done really quickly.
When we got home and removed the container from the bag, the presentation of the food looked nice with the burrito and a lettuce garnish on the side. When we took the burrito out of the container to split and the bottom of the burrito was completely soggy with juice from the pico de gallo that was on the lettuce garnish. It might have been better if there was a partition in the container to keep the wet lettuce and tomatoes away from the burrito.
As far as the taste of the burrito, I would have to call it average. We don’t live far from the restaurant, maybe 5 minutes, and the burrito was barely warm when we got home. Maybe if we would have gotten it enchilada style it would have been warmer with sauce and cheese melted on top and we wouldn’t have noticed the wet tortilla on the bottom as much. My son liked the sweet pork and I thought it was too sweet.
We will try it again, though. Maybe next time we will dine inside so we can see the food options better and ask more questions about the best way to order.
They also have a rewards program called Rio Rewards where you get points and special offers when you sign up. You can also order online from their website and pick it up at the restaurant.
I went when they first opened, the food quality was so-so and they were out of half their items. But it’s a new place and super busy and new staff so it was what it was.
Fast forward 8-ish months I believe. They’ve been pushing deals tons of deals in the app at this location only for a while now. I finally decided to take the long drive across town to take advantage of a BOGO deal, why not.
I get there right around 6:30pm, decent line but nothing crazy. Get to my order, 2 salads. First red flag, only 1 tortilla left but the kid serving found another tortilla under the bag. He attempted to bring this dry falling apart hunk back to life, I honestly felt bad for him cause he was doing his best and clearly it’d been a long day. I had him throw in a bunch of small tortillas instead, no biggie.
Next red flag, no rice. OK whatever. Now the kid proceeds to scoop the beans… no beans, all juice. Uh oh. Plenty of meat so that’s nice. And then throws a hung of cheese on top and runs it through the cooker. (Never seen this order for a salad at any other location but whatever)
Now here’s the real issue, the vegetable station… here’s a list of things they have:
-Pico (about 2 scoops left)
– Ranch
That’s it. Seriously. 3 hours before closing and there is nothing left. No heads up before I got here. Just a sorry, we’re out of EVERYTHING. So I’m left with a sad tortilla bean juice cheese meat soup bowl x 2.
I honestly should have declined the food and left but I just worked 14 hours, I’m exhausted and hungry so I paid but now I’m eating cereal and going to bed annoyed I just drove 45 minutes round trip for something that’s going in the trash because the pico tasted like it had been out for hours.
I love Cafe Rio but clearly this locations ownership does not care at all about this place or the people in it. It was awful.
