08-28-2025 Closed – Smoker is Cold.
From what I can see doesn’t look like they have brisket. The board says brisket burger.
Update: 09-04. Returned to find they were open. Would’ve liked to have gone three stars considering there’s no barbecue for 30 miles in any direction but, the brisket had a nice bark and smoke flavor. All they had was chopped and it was over done & splintery.. Enjoy the beans not sure what they put into the potato salad, but it definitely had a slap your Mama attitude. They spiced it up. Service was Great. Food was definitely on the Pricy side.

Door dashed a brisket burger , baked beans , Cajun potato salad. All 3 items were absolutely foul with minimal/horrible flavor. Burger had a clear finger mark in the middle of it as well lol. Maybe it’s better in person but don’t order from here.

I came in recently to check it out, and brought my full-frame DSLR camera along. I had the half rack of ribs and potato salad, and a drink. I really enjoyed the potato salad, but found the ribs to be overly rubbed/seasoned and quite dry on one side. That said, I enjoyed my time there and the owners and their family were very kind. I would definitely recommend checking it out, especially as a small business in a sea of major corporate conglomerates.

The food was fresh and amazing. We came late so they were out of some items but the pork pimento sandwich was amazing. definitely try the cajun potato salad. staff was super friendly and we talked the whole time we ate. Will absolutely be back.

My husband and I love The Notorious Pit! We eat here several times a week, and it never disappoints. The smell of the smoker is what first caught our attention, but the delicious food and great atmosphere keep us coming back. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the quality is outstanding. My husband and son swear by the tacos, and I honestly love everything on the menu. If you’re in Madison and craving amazing barbecue at a local spot, The Notorious Pit is a must!

I don’t even have words to describe this place. No inside sitting, the food was way overpriced. I ordered a full rack of ribs and it took two hands to tear it apart. I asked to use the bathroom and some kid who works there said that he would have to ask for me to use it. I mentioned i needed to just wash my hands, the kid was nice enough to let me in the back where the food was to wash them. I saw the sides sitting in the back with flies around it. I am not sure how this place got any good reviews, but i hardly ever write reviews about a bad experience or good one but this one was hard not to. The only nice thing i have to say was the people were friendly for the most part. I didn’t try anything except the ribs, but i think I’m good. Also i would recommend that you take card not just cash app or cash. Not everyone uses apps to pay.

I had the half rack of ribs, they were fantastic. The place is not intended for sit down, which I didn’t realize, however they were accommodating and allowed me to eat there anyway. Would definitely have the ribs again, but would be more prepared to take the food to go 🙂

We tried the ribs, pork chops, and brisket burger. All the meats were smoked pretty well. The cornbread was excellent. The greens were too salty. The kid at the register knew the menu inside and out and was helpful with recommendations. The political decor was tacky.
