I’ve lived on the East Side of Columbus my entire life, and I’ve always said I was going to stop by J Zhen Asian Bistro & Bar. Well, last night I finally made that drive up north, and I am so glad that I did.
When I walked in, I was greeted by Janta, and I instantly told her that I had been wanting to try their food for years. I ordered the spicy wings and mentioned that I heard great things about the fries. She smiled and told me I had chosen the perfect way to start my first visit. She even made sure I had a fork so I could enjoy my food on the way home—thoughtful hospitality at its finest.
I also ordered a Zombie drink to go, and let me tell you… I didn’t even make it home before the food disappeared. I sat in my car and enjoyed every single wing and fry. The flavor was incredible, and now I can never look at my old favorite spicy wings the same way again. J Zhen has officially raised the standard!
From the warm welcome to the unforgettable food, I am now a customer and supporter for life. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and for creating an experience that was absolutely worth the wait. I’ll definitely be back soon!

I came into this establishment right when they opened around 3pm. There was a younger Asian guy with a mustache who serviced me. He seated me but never asked me what I wanted to drink or brought any silverware. I waited 10 minutes and watched him engage with the bartender when I finally got up and told him I was ready to order. I ordered the spicy wings and spicy chicken lo mein. The wings were dry and the lo mein was bland. There was a decent selection of urban R&B music playing and the bar filled up quickly. I’ll pass on the food.

I used to love this place and hadn’t been in over a year. So I decided I’d call and place an order for pickup. I call 3 times and nobody picks up the phone. So I place the order for pickup online.
When I arrive, the music is extremely vulgar and terribly loud inside. I am standing at the podium for about three minutes before a lady comes up and kind of rudely asks my name for my pick up order. I give to her and leave.
When I arrive home, no sauces at all in the bag. Maybe that’s my fault for not asking/checking, but still. Generally soy sauce. No utensils either.
Then I find the lid to my General Tso chicken isn’t on securely and has leaked all over the bag. I’m trying to still like this place at this point.
The generals chicken was so dry. The fried rice tasted stale. Kind of crunchy. The egg roll is mediocre.
Not sure what happened to this place, but I definitely won’t be returning

This restaurant is the meet up spot for the Northside Columbus African American community. I felt like I was a a family reunion. The owners of this restaurant are amazing and very loving. There are many regulars who come here and continue the consistency in the atmosphere being very lively. The food was amazing. My favorite food item was the Buckeye Eggroll. It was a Philly cheesesteak wrapped into a nice breaded coating. The Zhen noodles which has chicken in it was amazing. If anything is wrong with your order they are good at making it right for you.
If you order the wings please eat the onions with it because it’s an experience. The onions are not on the plate for no reason. How they are cooked adds flavor to the wings.
I will most definitely go back. The owner knows what he is doing when it comes to the mix drinks. This is the spot to catch up, relax, laugh, and even catch a game. I’ve never been to a Chinese Restaurant like this before.

Amazingly delicious. Their signature J Zhen wings are sinful. The aroma of their wings are temptation incarnate. Literally. Nicely seasoned and cooked. Decent prices. Friendly service. Cool bar accompanied with some good tunes.

When I arrived, the man could not figure out which order was mine because they did not put names on the orders.I have eaten here several times and used to love this place. I noticed the food was changing, but my most recent experience guarantees I will never return. I picked up food on my way to work so I could eat it for lunch. I work 3rd shift. I decided to try a little after being at work for about 30 minutes. The “fried rice” was hard white rice that someone reheated in soy sauce. It had no flavor and was nothing but dark brown rice in the box. It was so hard that I wondered if it was put in a microwave. The mongolian beef had a musty taste to the meat, and the sauce was almost slimy. There is no way it was fresh. I am not sure what has changed, and if that doesn’t improve, I hope they close. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

This isn’t a 5 star restaurant by any means, but our waitress, Angel, is phenomenal. She knows exactly what we like, and gets us set up without us even ordering. She is pleasant, greets us with a smile every time and makes us feel so welcome there.
My only thing is, it’s attached to a bar. The patrons at the bar always enjoy themselves but if you have small children I wouldn’t recommend them tagging along. The conversations are loud and can be quite spicy, lol.
Overall we enjoy ourselves and return nearly every week and will continue to do so. It’s highly recommended for the adults 21+.

Great place to go eat with amazing drinks and food. The owners are amazing and engaging with the customers. Whenever I’m on the North side J Zhen is my food place to go. You have the bar crowd who usually are the regulars, then you have open seating where it’s plenty of seating. If you looking for great spicy wings and a strong zombie head over to J Zhen tell them Q sent you.
