A revival of famed Original Wolfie’s and iconic Wolfie Cohen’s Rascal House that initially brought the best of New York deli to Miami, Florida, over 75 years ago. These prominent institutions, together with their related brands (Pumpernik’s, Thal Bros. Epicure Market, and Jerry’s Famous Deli), have developed fabulous proven recipes that have deliciously nourished millions of customers. And, now, they are available in a New York-inspired restaurant and bar located in Sarasota, Florida.

Not a wow…. Just ok when you are feeling like you want to remember the past or experience something you never tried. We were a party of 3 and the bill with a tip was $130. Had dinner at 5:30 and they close at 7 pm. The entrance with the deli case of meats and desserts was sparse which should have been a tip off of what was to come. Service was adequate. We ordered one bowl of Matzo ball soup – broth was watery and very little chicken lots of celery and had to ask for carrots. The matzo ball was dense and tasteless. $14! A true rip off. Potato knish was luke warm and had a good taste. $6. 2 potato pancakes had lots of onions with good flavor but more than I have had in the past. $12; Half Corned beef sandwich was tasty and fresh as were the condiments. Turkey dinner – turkey was very dry, gravy served in a small container had a dried film on it. Menu said they offered brown or yellow gravy but when asked only offered one that was also served with the brisket. Stuffing was burned. $27.50- overpriced and not very tasty. Since we really weren’t satisfied with our meal we decided to try dessert rather than stopping off at Publix. Black and white cookie was very moist and flavorful at $5 . The “ SkyHigh” chocolate was just the $14!. It was moist and flavorful but a 8 on scale of 1-10. So overpriced at $14. Total with tax and tip $130. Not worth it. In this day and age everything costs more granted, the quality and presentation were nothing to write home about. My brother doesn’t understand why I provide reviews- he doesn’t think it’s worth the time. I think alerting others so they don’t waste their time is worth it. Paying it forward makes sense especially now more than ever. I wouldn’t go back to The Original Wolfie’s.

First and last time at this place
There is nothing like good deli food to warm the soul. Enthusiastically had drove over a half hour to this establishment to sample water. Appeared to be a delightful menu. We ordered to take our food. It was a weekday. When I arrived, there was an unmanned takeout counter. There was one woman ahead of us and she waited an inordinate amount of time while people walked around ignoring us. I had phoned in my order and it should have been a quick pick up.
My wife ordered chicken schnitzel. I’m assuming it had been premade and put back into a pan to heat it up. It was overcooked and, frankly, desiccated. Rather than gold brown it was dark, and the edges had to be trimmed off and discarded. Somebody was not watching the pan.
She also ordered matzoh ball soup. What could be better than real chicken soup.
The soup was so salty as if it had been sitting heated all day and it was evaporated. It lacked the taste of good chicken soup. The matzoh ball was OK, but sitting in the poorly made soup did nothing to enhance this favor. Good chicken soup, made with real chicken should gel up when it is refrigerated. This did not. I suspect this soup had never seen an actual chicken.
I ordered a Ruben sandwich. As you can see in the picture there was essentially no dressing. The bread and the meat were all of good quality. The sauerkraut should have been washed, but it was probably used right out of the can. To be honest, this is not unusual and so I would not subtract “points” for that.
Whoever owns this place needs to be around more

Many years ago about 1969 my Father took me to Wolfie’s restaurant in Mimai Beach, (Collins Ave at Lincoln Mall.)
Dining out wasn’t something that my family did and it was the first restaurant that I have any memory of going to. I remember the three bowls of sides on the table but cannot remember what I ate.
As many might know from talking to me this was the beginning of my fascination with deli’s and it could be said the beginning of The Pastrami Project. Growing up in Central Florida of course I went to Ronnie’s until it closed. Then many years later decided to create The Pastrami Project to return traditional deli to Orlando.
When I heard that the brand was recreated in Sarasota I promised myself that I would get there sometime, today is that day.
Quick picked cucumber
Beets
Coleslaw
I ordered the Rachel, sub Pastrami fir Turkey
Dill pickle half, which they swear is half sour. They brought me a new pickle and another dill. Its the vinager that gives it away.
Thin sliced seeded rye, well grilled .
Russian dressing, no caviar or horseradish
Pastrami, navel dry cured with the same taste profile as NY City style. I would guess about 8 oz machine sliced thin.

Good New York style deli in Sarasota. The pastrami sandwich was delicious and the service was friendly and efficient. The potato salad portion was very small and the small pickle slice extremely salty.
The decor was interesting and there is a display of Myer Lansky photos and memorabilia. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Prices are relatively high but the sandwiches are large.
There is a takeout counter. Street parking and a free lot is nearby.

Finally made it here! Used to go to Rascal House in Miami. This Sarasota revival is excellent. The rolls and tins of pickles on the table are missed but i get it…it’s 2026. The food was great! Missed the matzah ball soup so much. Will be back when travels put me back in the area.

I’ve been eating here since it opened. The food has definitely gone downhill. The pastrami was so so. The meat knish was just OK. The chicken soup and matzoh ball was mixed. The matzoh ball was great, but the soup was watery without any chicken flavor, other than pieces of chicken and carrots and celery. I had ordered cucumber salad instead she brought me coleslaw. When he first opened on Main Street, it was great and then for a while when he was in that small hotel, it was great. This sadly is not great. I’m searching for a possible better Deli in the future.

Being from New York this was definitely top quality! The reuben sandwich was on point, although not so much sauerkraut, but plenty of meat. I got the kind of classic Jewish kinesh I don’t know what they call it here but it’s the flat one, delish! The only thing I did not like is if you want to sit there you have to dine with a server. I was just wanting to take some food to go and kind of just sit and eat it but there’s no place to do that well there is right in the to go area but they won’t let you sit there. I mean in the shopping center like where it’s at you should be able to sit and eat without having to have a server especially as a single person. Price point of courses a little high but that’s to be expected of this cuisine, definitely not something I would do if I was a local, but visiting it was World worth it

This is the original Rascal House. Not the easiest to find but a good find! We ordered a pastrami on rye with co slaw and split a potato knish. The pastrami was somewhat dry and tough while the knish was large and tasty. Danielle our waitress was personable and on point. However while we got our knish and pastrami quickly, our rugolo dessert took a while. The rugolo was nothing special.

Our family stopped by for lunch and the kids enjoyed the food so much, they requested to eat here again the next day (!). The menu consists of a great selection of Jewish dishes. Our favorites are the stuffed cabbage, the pastrami sandwich, potato pancakes, matzo ball soup and blintzes. The kids loved their brisket and chicken schnitzel from the kids menu – one of the best kids selection in Sarasota. My husband and I used lived in NYC for 10+ years and the food is better than in Katz’s Deli so I am suspicious about the integrity of some of the negative reviews here. The cheesecake is to die for and the food is always fresh. The decor is lively. I wish Wolfie’s a great success, they deserve it.
