Reviews
Service: great, the moment you walk in.
Atmosphere: the perfect little hole in the wall with the best decor. Nothing fancy, but it feels authentic.
Update: So I’ve been here 4 more times since my first review. I like it more every time.
Tonight the music included Alice Deejay – Better Off Alone, Deftones – Shove It, and My Chemical Romance – Helena!!
If I could rate it higher I would.
This restaurant is located next to a liquor store in Linda Vista with only a few parking spots and a handful of tables inside. I feel like I’m in Japan already!
The waitress was friendly and seated us right away. We usually come here for lunch on weekdays for happy hour, since the items on the HH menu are great deals. The only problem is that they close between lunch and dinner most of the weekdays (M-Th), so happy hour literally only lasts 1 hour between 2 pm and 3 pm.
My wife and I have been here several times, and we have tried most of the items on the HH menu and some from their regular menu.
I would NOT recommend the karage or the menchi katsu (worst thing we had).
I would recommend the Udon curry, Udon carbonara, hand rolls, regular rolls, and chasu rice bowl.
Overall, this place is a great place for the value, and we come here as our go-to Japanese food spot.
I wanted to surprise my husband who just came out of surgery.
I ordered on online I walk in ask for my order. Order cant be found so i proceeded to order at the restaurant and the two waitresses refused to take my order and instead ordered me to go to their second location. Keep in mind im a paying customer who lives in this community. They had no problem sending me out without verifying that i placed the order in their second location. They could have called, instead i was refused service and for them a lost sale but most importantly a lost customer. I searched online and i found a great alternative Katsu Cafe see the two pics for name and location.
#1. When employees place themselves above a customer it shows with poor customer service. If providing great customer service has been discussed with employees. It’s a reflection of lack of respect not only for the customer but for the owner/s business. Investment and their vision.
#2. Some employees simple don’t care about creating a restaurant thats welcoming, customer centered and valuing each and every customer that comes in. Why because building clientele is essential for the long run. As a resident im greatly disappointed that we have sushi restaurant in our community that doesn’t value all customers who come in.
Finally im not the owner, however i am a customer who is very loyal and return to locations that treat my family and i with dignity and respect.
I pray for the owners that they will hire and train employees that will share a loving vision for all customers who come in to be served in love. It pains me to say that we will not be returning or recommending this locations to any of our friends or family.
Service was good, prices reasonable, dishes came out not super fast but not bad.
Great appetizers all around with my favorite being their squid legs. My usual dish is the salmon uni bowl. It could use more salmon but it’s very appetizing, and the uni is always very fresh. Their meat and rice bowls are also very good. They have a special crab mix that’s in a lot of their rolls, which is decently made, but after a while, the mayocrab flavor hangs in your mouth. I would love if they added more salmon-centric rolls.
The shop itself on Ulric is quite small, and decorated with a lot of miniatures and Japanese art which I find endearing.
Best:
– Mentai Potato Salad
– Squid Legs
– Salmon Uni Bowl
