Absolutely incredible experience at Rifugio’s! As locals, we’ve driven past so many times and now wish we had discovered it sooner. We went for their multi-course Valentine’s Day dinner, and every single course was outstanding. You can truly taste the care and authenticity in the food. Even the focaccia was exceptional—perfectly soft, flavorful, and clearly made fresh.
The service was top-notch and felt genuinely warm and attentive without being overbearing. We were treated like VIPs from the moment we arrived. It’s clear this is a family-run restaurant that takes pride in both their food and hospitality.
The atmosphere is cozy, relaxing, and charming—the kind of place where you want to slow down and enjoy the full experience. It feels like a hidden gem and such a special addition to the area.
We’ll absolutely be back and are excited to make this a regular spot. Highly recommend supporting this wonderful local restaurant.
Thanks again and see you soon, James and Heather LauRae.

My husband and I chose to have an intimate dinner celebration at Rifugio’s after our wedding ceremony, and everything came out BEAUTIFUL. They have a stunning outdoor seating area that is covered and romantic, with hanging string lights. We rented a couple tables and had our florist set up prior to our arrival. The owners of this restaurant were EXTREMELY attentive and provided us with exceptional service. We are from New York and we loved the food!!!! 10/10 recommend. Thank you so much Richard and Candice for making our special day so perfect Can’t wait to come back!

Well, this was a pleasure surprise for us. We saw this restaurant on the way up to Mt Baker and thought, interesting name, country Italian. We were like we should stop on the way back down just to see the menu. First thing we walked in and though, this is kinda cozy with the outside seating in summer, so let’s start there. We were greeted pleasantly and asked where we wanted to sit. So far, the atmosphere and service are great. Let’s see what the food is about. To make this simple, we loved everyone we ordered. The food was so delicious, my wife and kept making jokes around the food being so fresh “the picked the ingredients right before making the dish” lol

Loved this restaurant. Food was so fresh and delicious. Owner, cook and server all great!!!!! We stopped on our way back from Artist point on North west side of North Cascades. It would be so worth planning your West Cascades around when they are open.

We were happy to find this charming restaurant after hiking in the Mt. Baker area. All the food we tried was fresh and delicious. My husband especially enjoyed the cole slaw and focaccia. My spritz was refreshing and the patio with lovely views added to the experience. We appreciated the friendly service. We will definitely visit again next time we are in the area.

We drove through this place so many times. Fainally, we stopped by Sunday afternoon.
They welcomed us even if their lunch peaks ended.
We had a piece of cheese cake and chocolate cake. They were rich, not too sweet, and have beautiful presentations.
They have cozy heated tables by their scripture gardens.
We would love to try their meals next time we visit in the hood.

Got married at Mt. Baker last Friday, and my husband and I wanted to take our family to a nice dinner to celebrate after. Richard, his wife, and the staff at Rifugio’s made our experience exactly what we wanted! They were quick to communicate with us when we initially made our reservation and recommended a family style meal for 8 people. Everything was phenomenal and everyone was so attentive, friendly, and welcoming! The kale salad and the meatballs were hits. We were happy to have our wedding night dinner here. Hoping to be back in the area sooner rather than later to eat another delicious meal here!

Fantastic farm-to-table Italian place. Everything we ate was really wonderful, the people were warm, and the decor was delightful. We had the daily bread, lasagna, spaghetti alla meatball, and a slice of the chocolate cake. Everything was great from start to finish, and I definitely left more than satisfied! Thank you.

We stumbled upon Rifugio while passing through the area and were intrigued by the idea of finding an Italian restaurant in such a location. Our decision to try it out turned into a delightful surprise!
From the moment we stepped in, the warm welcome from our hostesses and chef set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. We indulged in a feast of flavors, starting with the delightful smoked salmon bruschetta. The wild cod with spinach sauce was a standout for me, perfectly complemented by the impeccably cooked scrambled egg. Each dish was a testament to the chef’s skill and passion for culinary experimentation.
To top off our meal, the zabaione dessert was a heavenly conclusion. Our conversation with the chef added an extra layer of enjoyment, hearing firsthand about his inspirations and culinary journey.
Next time we find ourselves in the Mt Baker freeway area, there’s no doubt we’ll be back at Rifugio. It’s a rare find where genuine hospitality meets exceptional Italian cuisine, creating an unforgettable dining experience.

Absolutely delicious. We got the Alfredo and spaghetti and they were both some of our favorite versions of the meals we’ve had for a very long time! The whole wheat focaccia was also such a wonderful starter. Highly recommend—it’s absolutely worth the drive from Bellingham!
