My Husband went to this place before…I didn’t think it was great but we ate. My husband went there the other day…the place was empty that seems to be routine and my husband is trying to secure the biggest bang for his buck. Instead of 2 pieces of chicken for 20 bucks he was trying to match sides…the person working behind the counter say ‘we don’t sell it like that…but the last time my husband came in whomever was working put sides together and chicken and it worked out for approximately for $35 bucks. Maybe he was having a bad day. My husband said thank you…It’s okay and the man says ‘have a nice day’ and my husband said I always have great days! If you can afford to lose customers because you’re having a bad day then you don’t need us to EVER come to your establishment again! I can wait to tell all my friends, co workers, family any one that will listen never to go to eat at Swirks. Good luck and have a great day!

So we had mixed reviews about this one place. First I want to say the service was amazing. The cashier was sweet, patient, and overall extremely nice. The menu was pretty big in comparison to other spots. I got lemon pepper wings with fries and a drink while my partner got the fried chicken. My wings were bomb and tasted great. My partners fried chicken was overdone but had great seasoning. The mac and cheese was eh. Fried okra and yams were pretty good! I’d go back for the wings and service!

This was probably the worst food I’ve ever had. Sour Mac n cheese. There was no flavor or texture of cheese on it. The chicken taste like the meat was old and breaded in fish batter. The greens tasted like glory greens not fresh. Nothing tasted fresh at all. If you’re thinking of ordering please don’t. Waste of money and food like that could possibly send you to the ER especially that chicken

So, I was raised as a Catholic. Therefore, I still crave fried fish on Fridays. But, I can never find it and have to settle for a McDonald’s fish filet or fish and chips. The fish and chips batter is not the same as crispy cornmeal is.
Well, yesterday I Googled and found Swirk’s Soul food restaurant. I noticed good reviews, and one bad one, which seemed to be quite bitter. I don’t agree with that one.
Smirk’s is a small mom and pop neighborhood restaurant in Aurora that feels quite homey. It has been operated by a Sudanese husband and wife for over 13 years. They were very kind and welcoming.
They offer several seafood choices, in addition to other dishes, including shrimp, whiting, perch, catfish, and tilapia. I ordered a perch platter. It was fried crispy crispy as I like it. The portion was generous. The sweet potatoes were like candy yams with marshmallows….yummy for my tummy. My 2nd side was a generous and equally delicious portion of Cole slaw. I enjoyed half in the dining room, and had enough to take home.
The owners are so lovely and work hard to please customers. The restaurant was spotless, unlike what was claimed in the negative review.
There was maybe $1 difference in what was on the menu and what I was charged. That’s not a big deal to me, given that food costs are high and always changing. Its hard to keep the menu and POS system in sync. I spent $24 for my meal, including a 15% tip. I was very satisfied!
This is a small family run business that is competing with corporate restaurants. You cannot judge them the same. Also, I’ve gone to many Asian and Mexican restaurants where the price is a mystery, and cleanliness doesn’t seem to be a high priority.
Our people tend to hate on each other. In most minorities there are naysayers just because they don’tsupport each other, whether Africa, Black, Latino, or Asian. …. Crabs in a barrel mentality.
Swirk’s was very pleasing to me. They work so hard, and sincerely and do not deserve the hate. ~ Kevy

My husband and I have taken deliveries from this place on multiple occasions and have always wanted to try it. We finally did tonight and despite it being later in the evening on Christmas eve, they were open and took our order. I forgot to tell my husband to get collard greens and the poor man walks out with our order only to get another from us. We were very thankful and the food was superb. We got a combination of plates from them and we pretty much loved it all!

I ordered the biggest plate that contained fish, link, 2 ribs, bbq chicken and four shrimp. Food was ready in about 13 minutes. The Mac and cheese is cheesy and creamy. The greens are okay not too spicy. The Pork ribs were not so good, they were old and hard. The fish fillet was tasty but it still didn’t taste freshly made. The hot link was not juicy but chewy & rubbery. The food was not freshly made. It was 1pm. I would recommend if there not no where to go and you want mac and cheese. Oh the shrimp were tasty but the coat looked as if they had been sitting under the light or in oil. I wish I visited at an earlier time. I’m not sure if I would go back. Catfish haven and uncle Bo’s is much better but I tried it.

Though I have my favorites, especially their BBQ chicken and catfish, I’ve tried virtually everything on the menu. And like the owner himself says, “everything’s good.” The cornbread is “down South” true and goes right along with the fried okra. And don’t skip the hushpuppies, partner, trust me. They are an excellent compliment to any meal you eat here. Take a bite outta Swirk then come back again and again for more. You won’t be disappointed.

The gizzards were good but the portion was bad. The restaurant is empty but it takes forever for food. When I got my plate it felt light like air. The container barely had any gizzards in it. I would never come back. They have a no return policy and it’s probably because they know a lot of people would complain.

Update: The gizzards are really good. They are fried perfectly. My only complaint is the weird seasoning they had put on them. When I asked them if they could remove the seasoning they did. I will only order they’re gizzards and my son likes the fish.
The so-called BBQ was not BBQ at all! I think it was cooked in the oven. The peach cobbler is not real peach cobbler it’s like some bread baked over peaches. I thought the cake was going to be like homemade nope store bought. The sweet potato pie also tastes like it’s store bought. The greens were canned and no type of flavor added. The Mac and Cheese noodles were way over cooked. The only things I like is the gizzards but it shouldn’t have whatever type of spice that is added to the flour it tastes weird. Please y’all put some more love in the soul food! Y’all got to do better!
