Spicy boneless chicken was good. Not too salty, not too drenched in sauce, nicely coated. Portion size was surprisingly big in a good way.
Bulgogi Bimbibap was good but the bulgogi was a bit too saucy/wet for me. It made the rice by that area wet. Would likely not get this again unless it changes.
After ordering, the staff brought some complimentary banchan. The potatoes were my favorite!
I would come back for the chicken and to try some other things on the menu.
My family has just had an amazing lunch. We all ordered a meal from a different part of the menu as we had never had Korean before and wanted to get a full experience.
The appetizers were all unique and flavorful, cucumber with a tangy sauce, mouthful sized roast potato pieces with a sweeter sauce, not too spicy Kimchi and delicious fish with pepper. I must admit I was hesitant to try all these unknown dishes but I was blown away! Once the appetizers were polished off, I found myself dipping the end of my chopsticks into the small dish of remaining homemade soy sauce as it was so yummy.
The substantial main courses were all very different and I could have really enjoyed eating any one of then. Each meal had a unique flavor and not particularly spicy (which we asked for). My teen boys enjoyed their dishes and were full when finished! Additionally a couple of the dishes were designed to be eaten in a certain way, eg my bibimbap there was special sauce to add at the table and I needed to mix it, which our host explained.
I really enjoyed the experience and the food and I would encourage anyone to visit. The service was quick and attentive. The restaurant was an open airy space with big windows and comfortable seating. It is on a nice street not far from the river.
I promise you will not be disappointed. It was the best food I have had in a very long time.
The dishes were perfectly seasoned, and I loved that everything was served in hot pots, keeping the food warm until the very last bite. The banchan was amazing too, especially the fried potato one, which was my favorite! But the real star of the meal was the tofu soup. My throat was sore after the G-Dragon concert, and this soup honestly felt like it healed me . If you come here, I highly recommend trying their soups!
The owner was also incredibly kind and attentive. You can tell he’s passionate about what he does as he personally checked on every table, explained dishes to customers, and even asked where we were from. When he said “thank you” in our language, it was such a sweet and emotional moment. To top it off, he surprised us with free dessert!
This place has officially become a must-stop for me whenever I travel through the area. Delicious food, warm service, and such a welcoming vibe, couldn’t ask for more!
The atmosphere is nice and quiet. Not fancy, but comfortable. You pay after you eat, which can cause confusion, like in my case. Not a big deal, but a little embarrassing when the person working the register yelled out loud that I had not paid for my food.
Overall experience: 4 out of 5.
One of the highlights was the owner, who was incredibly kind and even took a picture of us during our visit, which added a personal touch to the whole experience.
Definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for good Korean food and a friendly atmosphere. I’ll be back! Nam Chon offers a range of dishes with prices typically between $10 and $24, making it an affordable option for those seeking authentic Korean cuisine in Philadelphia.
