Consistently the best service in town. The food is solid, creative, and occasionally different in a good way. Portions could be a little bit bigger but you’re not going there to shovel it in, you’re going there for the gourmet experience. I was pleased when I asked for a carafe and was brought one (usually these days, the server says “oh the manager won’t let me”), and asked for substitute sides and not only did the server suggest options she went back to check with the chef to see if they had other options that she might have missed. My favorite all-around place in Brownwood, and they do have it all, from cocktail bar to gelateria.

Nice little spot with lots of seating. I took the street side seating as it was rather cool. I had the Tuna Poke bowl and it was amazing. It really had a different twist in great way, served with baby bokchoy, coconut rice, damage and what seems to be sort of a coffee tahini sauce if thats wrong correct me in the reply I didnt really ask my tongue dicented lol. But all togther it tasted really, refreshing . Definitely give them a try.

My husband and I ate here for dinner. I had the Curried Fig and Poblano Chicken. It was delicious! Everything was well seasoned, the flavors came together really well. My husband had the Jalapeno Popper Burger and said it was delicious as well. This spot is a little more expensive than what we usually like to pay but the food was amazing and we will stop by again if we are in the area. Great customer service.

YUMM! If you are looking for lunch, or dinner in Brownwood this is your place!!
I know they also do brunch and can only imagine how incredible it is based off our experience tonight.

We started with the Brussels sprouts (not pictured) (& I like to think I am a Brussels sprouts connoisseur) and these literally made my top 2 list. Sooo crispy, but not charred. The sprinkled Parmesan and balsamic glaze was the perfect touch to balance the extreme saltiness (in a good way, these were heavily seasoned).. even if you don’t like Brussels sprouts, these will change your mind. A 100% must try menu item.

WARNING If you have sensory issues avoid the curried fig and poblano chicken dish. This is a sensory overload in the absolute best way possible. The abundance of different flavors and textures going on in just one single plate… astounding. Decadent creamy curry meets sweet *HOME GROWN in the back of this place* fig, thinly sliced poblano spicy peppers, and a largeeee portion of chopped chicken breast, paired with coconut rice garnished w/ home grown basil – this screams home made from scratch, and “ready for seconds” as the kids would say.. I wanted to literally lick my plate clean.. and was so tempted to.. but there was too many people around, so I regretfully refrained.

My boyfriend got the coconut basil gelato & he polished it off before he could even come up for air. Such a unique flavor – was so good and so lite. You dont feel guilty eating a double scoop!

Trevor was our server and knew the menu inside and out. He was very polite and attentive and had great conversation with us throughout the course of our meal. Never made us feel rushed even as we were still there approaching closing time.

We will be back next time we’re in Brownwood!

Definitely slow down and bring some good company for this place. The food is definitely worth the wait. They special in slow food and it shows in its quality. The apricot bread pudding was delicious.

The Turtle is truly exceptional—easily one of the finest dining experiences you will find anywhere in Texas, not just Brownwood.

Mary has built something very special here. The food is world-class: thoughtfully conceived, beautifully executed, and consistently excellent. You would normally have to travel to Austin, Dallas, or Houston to find a restaurant of this caliber—and pay significantly more. The fact that Mary delivers this level of quality here, and does so consistently, is remarkable.

Everything is cooked to order, exactly as it should be in a serious kitchen. This is not fast, mass-produced food—and that’s the point. If you value freshness, precision, and quality, The Turtle delivers every time. The bar is equally outstanding, and one of my favorite places to sit and dine.

This is an ideal place for date nights or when hosting out-of-town guests you truly want to impress. The Turtle impressed my hardest-to-please food critic, which says everything. For me, it has become a regular favorite—one of Brownwood’s absolute treasures.

Go for the food. Stay for the ambience. #thebar

We had an incredible experience at the Turtle!!! The food was incredible (especially the appetizers)! I think everyone at the table was wowed by the brussel sprouts, calamari, and sourdough bread. We had to pace ourselves so as to not overeat the delicious appetizers before our meals came out. However, what truly made our experience amazing was the service. Kristina was the BEST waitress we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She prepared a table for us outside so that we could eat with our dog, was extremely attentive, offered to take photos of the family, and was overall incredible. We will return!

I have hesitated to leave a review because I’m not a customer that bases all his opinions on Google review’s. However, I had to bring this up in hopes of it not falling on deaf ears. I realize that running a restaurant is a difficult business to be in. I was in the business for a long time and hate it when people don’t respect hard working people who run restaurants. We love The Turtle! We’ve dined here quite a few times over the years. We recently visited the turtle on New Year’s Eve to celebrate a long but good year with my wife and girls. They advertised a select menu and it looked good going into it. But overall the service and the food was lacking. While our waiter was friendly he was not trained well. Drinks came sporadically and food came sporadically. My opinion is that good service can when over a bad meal. Appetizer was a black eyed pea dip. Flavor was okay but the homemade crackers or bread sticks were stale or not cooked properly. They were kind of mushy. French onion soup was probably the star of the five course meal they offered. Wife ordered the dry aged pork chop and my youngest daughter ordered the tenderloin steak. Both of their cuts of meat were so overcooked it was not edible. Wife literally ate 2 bites. The tenderloin steak was so overcooked it was grey. My oldest daughter and I ordered the special which was chateau briond. It was lacking flavor. We had to put salt and pepper on it. I will not bring up our bill and how much money we spent. Just please please work on the food. Please be more consistent. Please train the staff to be more aware of the customer. We love the local vibe of the Turtle, and we hope to be able to come back. But this one stung to say the least.

Traveling thru town with a friend this evening and just happened to find The Turtle for dinner. We were attracted to the adorable decor, then bowled over by the menu. The peppercorn steak had a wonderful crispy char and a sauce to die for. The grilled salmon with curry spices was delightful. Our server John was so helpful with our order and the eclectic list of wines by the glass. I wish I lived close enough to be a regular here, but will have to be satisfied with our luck at finding this unexpected treasure.

Excellent food. Everyone in are group thought it was great. Our waiter recommended the sourdough is an appetizer, which was fresh and delicious. Honey butter pecan chicken was on point. Empanadas for dessert were perfectly baked.
