We had dinner at Victoria and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, with a beautiful view and friendly service. The dishes are tastefully prepared using quality ingredients. The desserts are also worth a try!
We arrived about 30 minutes before the kitchen closed for their dinner break, but the the waiter Mauro kindly seated us anyway, which we truly appreciated he was very kind. For starters, we had the Bresaola della Valtellina con rucola e sciatt and the Parmigiana di Melanzane. The eggplant parm was a standout — light, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. While the bresaola was good, I would especially recommend the parmigiana.
For our main course, we ordered three servings of lake perch over lemon risotto, which we paired with a bottle of Opera wine. The risotto had a delicate lemon flavor and was creamy without being heavy — perfectly balanced. We also shared a Margherita pizza, which was generously sized and great for sharing.
To end the meal, we ordered both the cannoli and the tiramisu, along with three espressos. The desserts were delicious — the tiramisu in particular was airy and elegant, and the presentation across the board was excellent.
To our delight, the woman who originally recommended the restaurant, Paola, ended up serving us dessert after her break. She was incredibly kind and even brought us complimentary limoncello, then shared some wonderful recommendations for other places to visit in Italy.
Thank you, Paola, and thanks to all the staff at Victoria Grille for such a memorable and heartwarming dining experience. Highly recommended!
I came for lunch alone, and had a pizza with confit cherry tomatoes and pesto. It was absolutely delicious. The bread, oil, and vinegar on the side were amazing as well.
My only suggestion is that it would be great if the website or google listing mentioned that the kitchen closes from 6 to 6:30 (at least, it was closed the first time I dropped by). I came for lunch the next day instead.
When it comes to some of the negative reviews, I wonder if they’re from Americans with different cultural expectations. Maybe they’re used to being able to “customise” things more, or they’re interpreting perfectly normal tones as rude.
That evening we arrived in the piazza to find all the trees decorated in “fairy lights”. The restaurant is basically a glass capsule on the side of the piazza and the lighting created a warm and friendly atmosphere. There was light jazz playing as background music. All very nice so far…We were welcomed by a cheerful and friendly waiter who showed us to our table. He brought bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. A short while later he returned to take our drinks and food order.
A beer for me, a glass of prosecco for my wife.
We skipped entries as we intended to have a desert. My wife ordered the Venison with polenta with a side of vegetables. I ordered the sliced beef with porchini mushrooms with a side of roast potatoes. Our drinks were delivered quickly and our meals a short time later.
This is where things started to go very badly wrong.
My wife’s meal was correct, but I received a plate of Steak Tartare. The waiter quickly realised the mistake and removed it. Meanwhile I told my wife to start her meal. She was very disappointed to find that her venison was very tough, with bits of inedible gristle and the polenta has been stirred into a glue consistency. She then tried the vegetables which were overcooked soggy and only luke warm.
My sliced beef with mushrooms was delivered in a reasonable time considering it needed to be reorderd. The steak itself was ok but nothing to rave about and the mushrooms and sauce were a bit gelatinous. The potatoes were ok but only just warm.
My wife was very disappointed with her meal and barley ate ⅓ of it which is very unlike her.
We decided not to stay for desert and asked for the account. The account arrived promptly.
HOWEVER? To add injury to insult a €9 tip had automatically been added to the total. So as not to make a scene and embarrassing my wife further I paid the bill and left.
Keep in mind we are Australian NOT American. We tip well, but only for exceptional service which we did not recieve.
This occurred in low season (25th Feb).
Chef better get his act together before things start to get busy.
Not happy at all.
The staff are friendly especially the girl in pink who seems to be the manager or owner, although, I understand that other staff need more training in interacting with customers/guest.
The atmosphere is good and good spacing of table. We sat in the side facing the church.
Overall, it was nice and giving it 3 for the food but 4 stars for service and atmosphere.
