I got a waffle cone and mozz sticks for $16? There was a sign that the waffle cones with soft serve are $5, so $11 for 8 frozen mozzarella sticks is kind of crazy…

This week, I went to Dairy Island for the first time. The place is really cute with a lot to take in visually. That’s always a plus for me. In addition to the menu over the register, be sure to note the one on the wall off to the left. Service was super friendly. If it’s busy, it may take a bit to get your order, but it’s worth the wait. My sister had raved about the hand-breaded mushrooms, so I tried those. They’re absolutely amazing. The breading is fresh and light. Very delicious. I also grabbed a funnel cake, which was quite good. I definitely plan to go back to try out a few more things from the menu. Plus, they have 24 different flavors of twist cone and I want to sample several.

This is the perfect place to stop for snacks on a hot summer day.

My first impression walking through the door was that it might be a cool, small town dive. TONS of soft serve flavors and the other menu items like deep fried foods. Not the most healthy, but heck it’s called Dairy Island. We ordered jalapeno poppers (cream cheese), deep fried pickle spears, curly fries, 2 strips of chicken and soft serve as we left.

After we placed our order and sat waiting for our food (we waited a reasonable amount of time. No worries there). I was curious about the establishments reviews, so I Googled it. Wow, the reviews for this place are concerning. SO many poor reviews for cleanliness. I then saw everything through a different light. I was now fearful of my foods arrival. What kind of mysterious, potentially contaminated, journey did our food endure before ending up at our table? The guy at the register that took our order was friendly and seemed clean enough. But then we saw the cook walk out. Now mind you, we were overall pretty skeptical at this point because we had just read numerous pretty terrible reviews. The cook was wearing pajama pants? Maybe? An interesting graphic tee? I would say that he definitely could have looked cleaner. I think we would have enjoyed our food more if we hadn’t seen him. Might I suggest a uniform?

The food was mediocre. Not bad. It was cheap, so we got what we paid for. We haven’t gotten sick yet…so fingers crossed . The soft serve was tasty, however the reviews really ruined it for me. I won’t be back. This place sheds a whole new light on “fine dining”. ◀️ Which is what I will be seeking from here on out.

Best of luck to you. If you have a good experience. Definitely leave a review! This place needs them.

went to this place today. I got a chicken sandwhich, and a chili cheese fry. took over 30 minutes, costed $34.00. Absolutely insane, My chilli cheese fries had hair all over it, i told the lady working the front counter and she took my fries.

Never judge a book by its over. This is def a hidden gem i wish i could take home with me. Something about the interior keeps drawing you in and no matter where you look there is something eye catching. I ended up following another review here, getting the sweet n spicy beef dog (they were out of hotdogs at the time). Totally awesome from the beef, fresh veggies, and mouthwatering bread. My meal was made in a timely manner and served by a super chill older gentleman. I wish i could bring this place home w me.

Went for an Italian beef and French fries. The little bit of meat on the sandwich was OK. The French fries came in a little tiny packet that they charged $4.50 for!!! When I asked the gal there about it,she said she didn’t set the prices, but she’s the daughter of the owner! If you’re looking for a Chicago dog or Italian beef,go to Hot Dog Ave. in the Dells or Ginos in Holmen and save yourself the let down at Dairy Island!!!

The quintessential roadside diner. Americans at its finest! Family owned and operated, the fare was excellent. Gyros, burgers and fries, Oh My. Shakes and more than 31 flavors of ice cream. All at prices the handily beat ALL franchise quick service restaurants. And the small amount of money you spend on such extreme value stays in the community. It is NOT corporately extracted wealth out of the community into the gaping maws of foreign investors; think clowns, kings, red pony tails and big church bells. Yeah, of the money you spend at those places, less than 10% of it stays in your neighborhood to pay other people’s wages, services and goods. Stop making your neighborhoods poor. BUY LOCAL!

A fair to middling chocolate malt. Cozy kitchy indoor seating, but ice cream and enjoying the outdoors go hand in hand

Server wasn’t friendly. Lemonade tasted horrible. Soda was flat. Food was below average. Reuben was mostly kraut and dressing. What little meat was on it was cold. Booth was dirty. Would not recommend.

A tasty slice of Americana, with plenty of flavors of soft serve ice cream, a well rounded menu of appetizers, burgers, and other classic roadside dining options. Its got indoor and outdoor seating, friendly service, and is a great place to stop for a snack when you’re in the Mauston area.

Id recommend the german chocolate ice cream, and the curd burger was also quite good.
