We chose this restaurant for our anniversary dinner because we love seafood, and overall had a pleasant experience. Even though we had a reservation, we did end up waiting quite a while for our table, which was a bit disappointing, especially on Christmas Eve when we expected things to be busy but well managed.
We started with the coconut shrimp and crispy scallops, and both appetizers were absolutely delectable with unique, well-balanced flavors. For our entrées, my husband ordered the rainbow trout and I had the blackened redfish. Both dishes were delicious and stood out for their great flavor and thoughtful preparation.
The ambiance was very nice and fitting for a special occasion. However, the service fell a bit short. Our server, Chase, was pleasant, but not very attentive. I asked for a drink refill that never arrived, and dessert was never offered, which was disappointing given that this was a celebration dinner.
Despite a few service-related shortcomings, we still had a decent experience overall. The quality and variety of seafood, along with the restaurant’s unique atmosphere, make it a place we would return to, especially as seafood lovers.

First time n and had an upscale lunch w friends. This space is a contrast in dining experience as the bar area is open, bright and super lofty where the dining area is ensconced in warm woods w a single window, almost as if u are up on deck n the bar and below decks, rowing away n the dining with a lonesome porthole for ur view. Weirdly cool. I think the hit of the meal was the fried oysters, so crisp and w a pop of built n heat, yum. I did really enjoy their unique slice approach to the sashimi as it really allows for a nice soy wasabi bath which I love. My friends said the trout was top shelf, and these guys frequently eat what they catch themselves so that was high praise for the kitchen. It’s easy to spend some coinage here but worth the price point for sure. Cast away peeps.

We had such a wonderful time at Balboa Surf Club! The ambiance was great, and every dish we ordered was a hit. The Crispy Oysters were a perfect start, and the Thai Shrimp Roll was delicious. Our Red Fish and Crab Cakes were both cooked to perfection. Our waitress, Gianni, deserves special recognition – her professionalism and warm service really enhanced our entire dining experience. Highly recommend this spot!

We went back in December 2025. We were celebrating a special occasion and this was the perfect spot. Neither of us had ever been and it did not disappoint. We had the smoked salmon dip with crackers to start. Are entrees were the grill trout in the Blackened Redfish. For the sides we had pureed potatoes, jalapeno slaw, and spinach. We typically take to go plates but we clean the plate. Then for dessert we shared a brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, peppermint chips, and a caramel drizzle. It was warm and fantastic. All of the food was just amazing. And our server was also amazing. It was 10/10 from the hostesses to our server to our food. Major kudos to the chef. We highly recommend it and will definitely return. We’ve been telling all of our friends. ☺️

We go to Houston every year for an annual meeting and this was the first time we ate here — it was such a treat! The atmosphere is top notch, the waiters were superb, and the food was incredible. We were put into a cozy corner booth and the lighting was dim and the wood accents in the restaurant made it feel very comfortable.
They even bring out new cold cocktail glasses after a certain amount of time has passed, and transfer your cocktail into a fresh cold glass. My crab cake was incredible (and so was the broccoli on the side), and the el Guerro cocktail was the best cocktail I’ve had in a while. My coworkers ordered the el Guerro cocktail after I talked it up and they also loved it (and we all ordered a few more rounds of el Guerros:) )! This was our best meal in Houston and I can’t wait to come back next year. Thank you Balboa Surf Club!

Beautiful and elegant place to relax and unwind. I’ve been here a few times in past. I’ve had great service every time.
The food is not much to write home about. You should come here to relax with a drink or two. The cocktails are well made.

Reservation for four service with immediate seating, water and drinks. Service for the meal was provided by Yasmine. She provided amazing service was, very personable, and provided excellent suggestions. She was on top of food arriving quickly and also watching for refreshing as needed. She was a highlight of the meal. The food itself was excellent and worth the cost. We had shared fried oysters and shrimp as appetizers. Meals included red fish, crabcake, a green goddess salad as a meal and salmon. All were prepared well, fresh and delicious. Soup of the day was potato and was also very good. We had lemon meringue dessert as well as Quatro leches. The leches cake was the best I have ever had. The bar and the restaurant were active with some noise, but it did not interfere with conversation. The restaurant is dark, but that’s apparently a more frequent trend.
