WOW!!! Unexpectedly came to this restaurant while I was in the same area getting my car wash and was curious about this restaurant so I thought I would try it and I can’t put it in clear words on how exceptional the food tasted!!!

The food was flavored perfectly! The smell of the spices smelled so good that makes you want to try everything on the menu!

We ordered Goat Biryani (the portion is large enough to share for 2 people) the goat meat was marinated so well and it was falling off the bone, Chicken Tikka Masala and Thattu Idli (steamed Rice & Lentil cake) with chutneys on the side. Garlic Naan & Parotta (flaky layered flatbread). Mango Lassi and Royal Falooda for dessert – so delicious & not too sweet. Masala Chai.

Customer service is excellent- very kind & friendly people!

The restaurant environment is casual, clean and comfortable.

Overall each type of food was seasoned perfectly, good portions and each type of bread were made well – everything was above our expectations!

THANK YOU!
Only the best to all of you

We went for the weekday lunch buffet, which was $15 per person, and were pleasantly surprised. Although it’s a small place, the buffet had a really good variety for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options—about 3–4 starters and 3–4 main course dishes on each side. What stood out the most was the flavor. The food was bold spicy, and tasted authentic, not toned down mild spice like many other Indian buffets.

One of the easiest 5 stars I will ever give. The lunch buffet is a tremendous deal and packs delicious offerings that change often. A good chai helps wash down the delicious goat curry and chicken tikka masala, different kinds of biryani or pulao, and four veg options. Freshly fried appetizers, they also have sambar, rasam.

Food is amazing, especially the dosas. If your people are hungry, get the family size dosa. It’s 4 feet long and flavors accompanying chutneys are outstanding. Staff are fantastic as well.

We went to Vanakkam PDX for dinner. I had a Guntur masala dosa with chutney and sambar (yum) while my husband had a Kathi roll. We also shared chili gobi. The food was great !

It was great. The food was amazing, staff even better but on top of that the highlight of my trip to Vanakkam PDX was this dosa. As you can see in the photo. If it were possible I would give it a 10 stars unfortunately the review system limits it to 5.

On a whim, we decided to stop off at the Vanakkam PDX restaurant of Cornell and 26. While on the outside it’s not much to look at, and the inside is pretty plain, the food was a very pleasant surprise.

We ordered a lamb tikka masala and a butter chicken with a couple of mango lassies for drinks. I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve had a better tasting lamb tikka masala, in any of the multiple restaurants. I visited over the last 20 years. The sauce was thick and creamy and full of flavor and the lamb was cooked to perfection. It wasn’t greasy. The butter chicken was slightly spicier and just as delicious. The chicken was cooked to perfection, almost melt in your mouth.

I will admit that I am a complete wimp when it comes to hot spices and the kitchen was very willing to accommodate my lack of tolerance.

The dinner came out to just under $40 and I left a nice tip as a thank you for their excellent food.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice Indian dish. Don’t expect lots of fancy decorations or plush booths. They focus on the food, not the decor.

Exceeded Expectations — A Must-Try Spot in Portland!

We were on vacation in Portland and decided to try this place based purely on Google reviews — and oh boy, it more than lived up to the hype!

What We Tried:
Idly, Mysore Masala Dosa, Pepper Chicken, Mango Lassi

The Verdict:
✅ Idly – Perfectly fluffy with just the right tang. Paired beautifully with the chutney and sambar (which, by the way, has that signature Tamilian flavor that really hits different!)
✅ Mysore Masala Dosa – Crisp, flavorful, and the potato stuffing deserves a special mention — spiced just right.
Pepper Chicken – Spicy, bold, and absolutely delicious for those who like a kick.
Mango Lassi – The jewel in the crown! Smooth, sweet, and heavenly. Don’t leave without trying it.

It’s a no-nonsense restaurant, so don’t expect fancy ambience — but the food speaks for itself. Service can take a bit during peak hours, but honestly, when the food is this good, it’s more than worth the wait.

Final Word:
This is definitely going to be our go-to whenever we’re in Portland again. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic South Indian flavors with a punch of spice and soul! ️

We had lunch here recently and it was delightful for several reasons. First off, if you’re going for lunch, expect the buffet. We found the buffet fresh, and with lots of great options. One end of the buffet is vegetarian, and meat dishes are in a separate section on the other side of the POS. That’s thoughtful; nice touch.

Secondly, the food is utterly DELICIOUS! Like, everything on the buffet is incredibly flavorful. The sambar was my favorite, but it’s difficult to pick a favorite dish. I find it refreshing to find fantastic south Indian cuisine in the greater Portland area AND on a buffet for an opportunity to try lots of different dishes! I was in heaven. I’m salivating thinking about all the flavors!

Also, the staff couldn’t have been more kind and hospitable. So welcoming! The interior of the restaurant is adequate and clean, but not the most picturesque. (But let’s be fair: we didn’t come here to post on Instagram; we came for the food!)

One hot tip: DO NOT miss the mango lassi! Absolutely divine.

Needless to say, we’ll be returning for both the lunch buffet AND dinner. Can’t wait! Last tip: Run, don’t walk for lunch here!
