I’m updating my review from a few years ago when I rated this location one star. At the time, the restaurant was filthy and poorly managed, but I’m happy to say that’s no longer the case.
During our recent visit, I was genuinely impressed by how clean everything was. The staff were friendly and management checked in on our table more than once to make sure we had everything we needed.
Unfortunately, there is one lingering issue that is difficult to overlook: the food sitting under the heat lamps. Because this location doesn’t get much traffic, even on a Sunday during prime dinner time, most of the buffet food ends up sitting too long. The fried chicken, pizzas, and sides were dried out and stale from being under heat lamps for too long.
It’s a shame because the food here is excellent. We ordered three made-to-order pizzas during our visit, and all of them were hot, fresh, and perfect. If more guests came through, I imagine the buffet food would reflect that same quality.
This is a big step up from my last visit.

Their fried chicken is the best I’ve had in Des Moines. Really like the ‘order your way’ pizza that is included in the buffet. Faster than most ‘fast food,’ but 100% better!

This Pizza Ranch is AMAZING!!! Salad bar is so good, lots of different salad dressings and fresh peas! The potato wedges and chicken were delicious and hot! They have twist ice cream!!!! I hope my home Pizza Ranch reads this and gets gets the hint….Also, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was such a nice meal! 10/10!!!

My wife and I have dined frequently at this Pizza Ranch location, and we have enjoyed each and every visit, including today’s. Great food, clean facilities, and a staff who clearly take pride in and enjoy what they are doing. We look forward to many more visits here in the weeks, months amd years ahead. I was there when no one else was it was literally the best time I’ve had since June. The food was good and the gravy was my favorite. Lewis the guy at the front counter should get a raise he was so attentive and nice.

I have always enjoyed this place. I like the pizza, mashed potatoes and chicken. I almost exclusively get those items here. Hard to go wrong with comfort food. If you are only getting one plate it isn’t worth the price, but it always ends up being my lunch/supper combo. If you want something specific, speak up and ask for it, they’ll get it for you.
